Mayor Daley puts $2 million city price tag for Obamafest. Obama will pay election night rally costs

WASHINGTON--Flush with cash--and still begging donors for more--the Obama campaign is planning a $2 million dollar election night extravaganza at Chicago's lakefront Grant Park. Mayor Daley had suggested Obama use the United Center to keep the price down--but Celine Dion was already booked there for a Nov. 4 concert.

Chicago Sun-Times City Hall Reporter

Mayor Daley today put a $2 million price tag on the cost of city services associated with the giant Barack Obama election night rally in Grant Park.

He suggested the United Center as cheaper simpler alternative but was turned down.

The mayor said the cash-flushed Obama campaign has agreed to reimburse the city for those services because Chicago is grappling with a $465 million deficit and is in no position to pay for it.

Asked if he objected to Obama's decision to hold the rally in Grant Park, Daley said, "Could you see me saying no to Sen. Obama? Give me a break. I'm not that dumb."

The mayor said the indoor United Center "would be much easier but the campaign so far ... wants to do it in the open. They applied for the permit."

Daley acknowledged that the Grant Park rally would create a logistical nightmare. "You'd have to secure buildings, close down buildings," he said.

"You need sanitation. ... You have to secure the CTA. You have to have traffic people. ... You have close streets seven to eight hours before."

Great!!!!! Our state is millions in the red and we now ge to fork out some coin for this mutt and his party. Sound like the pension fund is getting tapped AGAIN!!!!

Daley knows better than to mess with the Messiah. It would be political sucide.

This positively disgusts me. And this is the guy that wants to bring our economy back? Are you kidding? What a damned WASTE of money, especially in such crucial times. How dare he ask for more to boot!!!!!

Or for riot control should Obama lose?

Come on, the liberal media is making a big deal about the cost of Palins wardrobe and then this $2 million is not covered by hardly any at all. Part of the reason I don't trust Obama is how badly we can trust the media to report correctly.

In a time where over $200 millions is being spent in one state by Obama the media wants to talk about clothing cost?

Uh...the Obama campaign says it will reimburse the city for the costs. What's the problem here?

Don't believe it!

Coming from Chicago - I know about the democratic machine, and this is complete BS.

Should the Junior Senator win and we actually have this obnoxious display, I look forward to a follow-up article by Ms. Speilman/Lynn confirming EVERY itemized public cost and Every paid receipt by NoBama.

BTW- what if he looses does he still pay for all of the expenses?

Again a follow-up article on that would be nice.

The beginning of the wealth redistribution plan under a communist Obama reign.

At the end of the day, that's probably what Caribou Barbie will end up spending her wardrobe.

Counting his chickens before they hatch? 2 million? I sure am glad that money just grows on trees!

Obama's ego is huge. Why not have his acceptance in a hotel ballroom or an indoor arena like other candiates?

The city of Chicago has better things to do wiht its time then manage an outdoor event like this.

And the libs are sniveling about Palin buying a few dresses.

I think it's fantastic. Spend Baby Spend!

Did you even read the article, Bluntheadtrauma? Barack Obama's campaign is paying for the event, not the city.

Free, and a great deal for Chicago, with added revenue from out-of-towners , and positive exposure for the city if Senator Obama wins.

AMAZING....

I'm amazed at what's becoming of our election process....Hundreds of millions of dollars spent in promoting candidates. Encouraging absentee ballots..."EARLY VOTING"? What's THAT about!!!

AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR PARTIES!?

They ALL talk of Health Care Reform...Just think of what better things we could do with the money spent on campaigning....

Obama is nice and I think he will be a good president :) I am going to Grant Park on November 4th and I am going to have fun!

That's a hefty price tag for an outdoor party in chilly Chicago...

To : Bluntheadtrauma

Your use of the word "mutt" is in rather poor taste. In fact, it's racist.

Why can't you express you displeasure at Obama without resorting to racism?

Sheesh, you would think a supposedly earth-friendly, green candidate would recycle those greek collumns of his from Colorado! ;-) But seriously, is this a sign of what we Americans will be paying for in an Obama adminstration? Big parties to celebrate Obama's "greatness"? Flags peeled down and replaced with his seal? And anyone who dares question an Obama policy - as Joe the Plumber did - will be crushed by Obama and his MSM. Sounds a lot like a dictatorship to me.

Wouldn't it be sooo funny if he didn't win.
Win or lose there are going to be riots. I wouldn't go near there.

You have a city where mail carriers refuse to deliver mail because of crime and lack of police presence spend $2,000,000 on an after election party. This is a great example of malfeasance by an administration. You raise the sales tax to the highest in the land, cops can't or won't protect the public and they are spending the money on a party. Chicago is now the city that doen't work.

What happens if he doesn't win? Gonna riot, right? well go ahead burn Chicago down, no great loss.

And then The One will give the rest of his coffers to offset the federal deficit, because every little bit helps, right O? If it's good enough for small businesses who make 250K or more it's good enough for political campaigns who've made hundreds of millions. Or are you going to explain why it's different by saying, "Look..... here's what you need to think." (Notice how he says "Look..." a lot? It's like he means, "You're thinking is all wrong. Let me tell you how to view this.")

He said the Grant Park event will be free and open to the public.

So were the Colosseum events in Rome during the Roman Empire, and we all know what happen there...

And we're supposed to be in a recession? This is the kind of outlandish spending that has gotten our entire society in the mess that it's in. By the way - if you don't think a big portion of Obama's money is from off-shore interests, then your head is buried further in the sand than I thought. Get back to what's important instead of trying to entertain us. This country needs to put down the Cheetoes and the remote control and wake up!!!

I hope it's three degrees and snowing!

It is about time this country had something to celebrate. Chicago and all of Illinois should be proud of Obama for the forthright and honest campaign he has run rising above the mud slinging.

Hey, how about spreading some of that wealth around, you crooked jerk! People getting thrown out of their homes, and this clown's gonna have a party. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"

An Ice Storm would be fitting for the day of the fest with Al Gore in attendance.

The B-O campaign should adopt ABBA's "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" as it's theme song. It fits and I get my royalties, too...

Um, just wondering where/how Mayor Daley came up with that nice big number. In any event, this can be nothing but a good thing for Chicago. there will be huge financial gains for virtually every aspect of the city. Does anyone doubt the positive effects on the city as a result of having the Obama for America campaign headquartered here instead of DC? I think not.

Most of the people who posted here are morons, bigots or just plain sore-losers. Do any of you actually believe that Obama planned all this himself? And who really (truly) believes that he's gonna lose?

Yes, I am an Obama supporter and have been since the early stages of the heated contest between Sens. Clinton & Obama. But I give Sen. McCain all the credit that he deserves. It still amazes me that he managed to even keep it close. And, as a ARMY veteran, I salute his service and valor.

But listening to some of these comments would lead you to think, why do people love America? Why would you want to live here and deal with people like this everyday? It's because you're now the minority. Racism is a dying issue...soon to be replaced throughly by classism. Wake up people and accept what's happening. Just about 70 years ago our race wasn't even allowed to read...and now we're just leveling the playing field.

I love the idea! Open the celebrations to the public, and not the big donors! Obama has successfully run a grassroots campaign, and including all of us in the success. I am seriously considering driving down from Minneapolis after I vote to join in the revelry! I was happy to donate to the campaign, and proud that the party's an open invite!

To someone with a conscience
From Midwest Mom
Are U being facetious? Since when is Mutt a racial slur?

Obama's campain has millions in its account because of his supporters donating. His campaign is paying the city back, therefore, his supporters are the ones footing the bill. I doubt they would mind a 2 million dollar party to celebrate the defeat of McPalin. I sure don't. Heck, go all out, make it 10 million! I'm ready to party like its 1999!

I find it appaling and disgusting that Obama is treating himself like a god while so many people in this country are loosing their jobs, their homes, their retirement plans. Shows what kind of president he will be. He will maintain his pedestal at all cost. I feel for the people of the United States that are going to realy suffer under his and the democratic house and senate. While the citizens of this country are suffering and he has collected over 600 million dollars to buy this election he is only asking 10.00 from each of his supporters to help him to the finish line. Maybe michelle should have eaten fewer lobster, caviar and champaign lunches.

Okay drudgies...welcome to our fair city.
The City That Works.
Its not just a saying, its actually true.
Say what you want about Daley, he's done a much better job then your Boy Bush. (oh, i forgot, nobody on the right will claim him now...even after voting for him twice!)
This event is great for the city, a lot of money will flow into the pockets of business in the city. Hotels, bar, resturants, cabs, shops...you name it. Its called generating income. Crazy concept, I know. It's the same reason we want to host the Olympics. Its another thing to highlight our great city, so find another talking point to bash Obama.
Sorry your losing! :)

My husband is a police officer and is on "alert" for the event. They are being told to EXPECT a riot, win or lose. Says volumes about his supporters doesn't it?

"Pride Cometh Before A Fall" - A lesson that BO will learn on election night.

Mayor Daley is a typical Irish pig politician like most of them!

The prospect of this celebration aligns with Obama's concept of himself as "the one." What a pitiful demonstration of audacious egoism.

The prospect of this celebration aligns with Obama's concept of himself as "the one." What a pitiful demonstration of audacious egoism.

WOW. Anything for THE MESSIAH!

The prospect of this over-the-top celebration aligns with Obama's concept of himself as "the one." What audacious egoism!

and what do you think he'll wear to his party? perhaps, a tailor made toga and wreath. might be too cold for sandals--but surely he'll bring his violin.

Steve, you said "Obama is nice and I think he will be a good president :)" It's flipp'n idiots like you who I don't want to hear belly-aching 2 years from now when the bottom falls out. Jeez! Grow a brain.

Since when do the Repubs have a problem with spending? I'm so confused!!!

But yes, it's hypocritical to demonize Caribou Barbie's spending but not Junior's buying of the White house. Come on guys, seriously, we're in a recession and you're living in luxury after claiming you're both average humble people. Gimme a break!

UN REAL NO ONE CAN AFFORD ANYTHING MY BUSINESS IS GOING UNDER AS MANY OTHER ARE AND THIS GUY WANT 2 MILLION FOR A PARTY. MAN O MAN WE ARE IN TROUBLE HOPE HE DOES NOT WIN IT WILL SAVE US SO MUCH MONEY!!

if obama were really a different kind of politician, and really about "change," he would forego a blowout bash and set a good example for the rest of the country with a modest and tasteful event.
any time a politician says an event will be good for the local economy, its a loser. think olympics. think sports stadiums.
the people pay, the politicians play.

Give me a break: 150000/2000000 = 13.33. This bash is already projected to cost 13.33 times as much as Sarah's campaign wardrobe, all of which will last long past one night. How much of this crap will be donated to charity once the lobster-and-champaigne fest is over?
Yeah, you betcha Chicago is proud - finally they have elevated one of the machine to the national level. The rest of us won't be so proud once we see how the machine rules.

Realist's comment is so common with obama supporters. they dont check on the facts. dont confuse me with the facts, i've already made up my mind should be their motto. obama is famous for collecting for things like school funds for colleges and not spending a single dime on the students. look up who you are supporting-he wont even produce a birth certificate, a real one that is. now who cannot do that?

What is the big deal here, besides that Matt Drudge is playing it up? Campaigns have big outdoor events all the time, and they solicit contributions from donors to pay for them. Obama is reimbursing the city, so its no cost to taxpayers.

Besides, if Obama wins, its a great honor for Chicago. Same for Arizona if McCain wins. People will want to come out and celebrate. And if Obama loses, well, there are election night parties set up for candidates that lose every year. They usually turn out to be a real drag, about as much fun as seeing your favorite team lose the big game.

Hey, Mayor Daily, Get the money UP FRONT, in case Obama loses......

I can't believe with a state debt of over 400 millions dollars, that this amount of money would be spent on a bash that I hope never happens. If Obama wins, does he invite Wm. Ayers, John Resko, Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfeger to the party? People that vote for him must want socialism.

Imagine the damage they will do to beautiful Grant Park. People of Chicago should be furious. I hope there is a snow storm.

Well, I just hope he wins. If he does, he can have the party at my house...free of charge!
All you drudge-bots, that taste in your mouth is Sour Grapes.
Don't hate.
Congratulate!

"This is the kind of outlandish spending that has gotten our entire society in the mess that it's in."

Actually you have it backwards. Recessions happen when people STOP spending money. A big event like this puts lots of people to work, meaning lots of money going into people's pockets which they can use to pay their mortgages and spend at local businesses and help them stay in business.

I don't get what all the complaining is about since the city isn't paying a dime. Especially since some of that cost is being passed on to news outlets who will be paying for primo locations (and before the whining starts, McCain is charging the press almost as much for spots that won't even get them close enough to see him in person, they're paying to watch him on a TV monitor).

Did you hear about the McCain supporter that was almost killed by blacks & they carved a letter "B" for Barack in her face? I know mainstream media wouldn't report that! They are in the tank for Obama since 95% of the media say they are liberal! Basically if Obama loses there will be blood in the streets so you had better vote for Obama!

I don't get what all the complaining is about here. I currently live in Chicago, and go to many of the events the city puts on in Grant Park, Millenium Park, etc. Not only is this event going to be great for the city anyways (tons of out-of-towners coming in using our public transit, eating at restaurants, getting cabs, hotels, etc. etc.).. but the Obama camp is going to pay for this. Now you can talk all you want about "what else could be done with this money," but this is not your tax dollars, this is money that was deliberately donated for the purposes of the campaign. Where is the argument?

Mayor Daily better get the two million dollars UP FRONT in case Obama LOSES.......

Well said iRikk --
how much revunue will the night *bring in*?! Maybe more than $2million... why are some people complaining about an event that will generate jobs for your city (Daley listed off several tasks for which people will have to be employed that night -- traffic, sanitation, etc.)? And why does Daley keep going on about Obama not taking the United Center if the United Center was already booked???? Doesn't make sense.

I bet that most of these post are from people who are not even from Chicago or Illinois. As someone who is (lifelong)..... I think its a great idea!

Glad he can come back to Illinois, and Chicago and thank all of us here since he spent so much time on the road....

Since Mr. Obama is such a great fund raiser, why bother w/ taxing the general populace? He should be able to increase government spending, pay off the national debt and spread the wealth by continuing to soak his benefactors, yes? After all, this is only for the benefit of the country, right? It's patriotic!

I would start moving in the national guard, with all these phony polls building up the hopes of Obama supporters, when John McCain wins they will try to burn the city! Just like they did in Watt's in the 60's

I cannot believe the hubris of this man planning his celebration party when the polls are getting closer and closer by the day. I cannot believe my tax dollars are going to this. Mark my words, win or lose, there will be riots. I am staying locked in my house that night. I am ashamed to be from Chicago.

I don't know why anyone is talking about Palin's wardrobe, everything she wears is getting donated to charity after the election is over...and that was decided when she started campaigning. All Odrama is going to do is fill a park with people and their litter, and then walk away when everyone is done worshiping him...

Gosh, Republicans are such a nice, happy, RESPECTFUL group, aren't they? These comments just make me feel all warm-n-fuzzy inside!

But that's OK -- NOTHING can bum me out now! And I cannot W-A-I-T for the big, historic victory bash... I'm staking out a space up front EARLY, so look for me on the TV machine! I'll be wearing a cute red coat (ideal for a "commie"), long blonde hair, & a HUGE SMILE!!!

To "Anonymous": Downtown Chicago impresses the hell out of anyone who's actually BEEN here.. So maybe when you grow up you can escape your backwater town for a day and check out the big, beautiful city all for yourself! :)

MILLIONS TO CELEBRATE HIS VICTORY????

1. HOW DOES HE KNOW HE WILL WIN????

2. MILLIONS FOR *WHAT*??

3. WHY NOT DO A *SHOCK & AWE* NUMBER AND INSTEAD OF PARTYING, *DONATE* THE MILLIONS TO THOSE WHO ARE IN DIRE NEED, WHICH ARE MANY MANY MANY PEOPLE IN OUR BELEAGUERED COUNTRY!

Pray for rain. Or better yet, a raging blizzard.

Maybe there is some water nearby and the messiah can walk on it for everyone there. It is an absolute disgrace that someone thinks they are that great! Anyone want to go to Canada on November 5th?

Pray for rain. Or better yet, a raging blizzard.

He is going to pay for it.

Do you really want him to have it somewhere else?

Really?

Its sad that all you Obama haters out there cant stand success. You act like a Presidential candidate having an election night party is something new. Every President in my lifetime has held a big election night party when they win. So whats the big deal? You guys jealous because Grant Park is the venue? Well guess what? Its the only place that could hold the people that want to see him. Stop hating and come to Grant Park and celebrate.

Seriously, do you people even know how to read?? "Obama will pay election night rally costs" Go get an education and then you might begin to understand what a great opportunity this is for the city of Chicago and what a great President we will have in Barack Obama. It will likely be you folks who benefit the most from his policies..... Get a clue.

SPREAD THE WEALTH!!

(besides, Obama is paying for it)

How much is Mccain spending for his??

ANY event requires city support (police, sanitation, etc)

They act like its a big problem?!?!

Do you know how many people it takes to put on the Chicago Marathon?? More than this...

PS.. Mccain would be spending the money too,,,if he had it...oops, out of dinero

Thank you iRikk for pointing out the main reason why Mayor Daley CAN NOT say no. The city will be reimbursed for the cost of the event and the local businesses will make some serious bank... it's not that complicated. There are plenty of cities out there that will be happy to host Obama on election night if Chicago doesn't feel like dealing with the "logistical nightmare".

And bluntheadtrama... you should be ashamed of yourself.

Only in American can the media take a rookie with absolutely no accomplishments in the Illinois Legislature or the US Senate and make him president. Question? After the shooting this year at the Taste of Chicago would anyone with a brain let a loved one go down to Grant Park and possibly be caught in the crossfire of two rival gangs? At least if they did it inside McCormick Place they could make everyone go thru a metal detector. Of course you run the risk if it is indoors of being trampled to death when the trouble starts. That’s the Chicago Police is loading up on military tear gas not pepper spray. A just afraid that one way or another there will be trouble.

Wow - what an angry bunch of haters.

Let the man have his day - and pay for whatever kind of celebration he wants. If he wins, I for one would like to be a part of it. If he loses, I'm sure he still wants to thank the millions of supporters and volunteers that helped him get this far.

As a resident of Chicago I think this is a great idea. There will be hundreds of thousands of people who will want to celebrate the end of Republican rule in this country! I got news for all you haters out there. If Obama had the traditional rally in a hotel, hundreds of thousands of people would surround that hotel or try to get in. This way its out in the open and will be much easier to control the flow of people.

And, haters......step back and see what happens to this country when the adults are in charge!

Ha ha. You trolls are funny. Me, I'm going to party. Ya'll can stay home and sulk.

Are all of you suggesting that McCain and the republicans would be more frugal if they won? Come now, my dears, the High Ones never scrimp on their victory celebrations, even if their subjects are starving.

Come now dears, are you suggesting McCain, Palen and the republicans would be frugal if they won? Through all of history the High (placed) Ones have all spared no expense on their victory celebrations, even if their subjects are starving.

I really don't think a party Obama spends his own campaign money on is a big deal. The tax payers are not paying for it, and the city is being reimbursed, so why is it an issue. Chicago should really look at this as maybe a way to MAKE money, through some sort of sales or donations.

The right wingers notice the number $2,000,000 and do not notice the fact that the Obama campaign is PAYING FOR IT. They just want to say anything bad about Obama at this point, try to get outraged by any imagined slight because they are deathly afraid that Obama will win.

I already have my hotel room. Its going to be a great time!@ All the Whiners out there, please let me play my violin for ya!Whats wrong with coming back to his city and having a great party for EVERYONE!Jealousy is not ATTRACTIVE!I never heard of such hypocracy.John MCBUSH3 and Moosealini are having there "Ball" at some Ritzy hotel Im sure paid for by the RNC and other LOBBYISTS!So Why are you COMPLAINING its obvious NONE OF YOU Donated to the campaign,But I did and I 100% APPROVE this PARTY!

The usual Obama haters are out in force. For eight years we have watched the neocons Bush and Cheney and his allies pillage and rape this country, trample on the Constitution, aid only our enemies with misguided adventures and cowboy diplomacy, all with the complicit support of a corrupt, lock step GOP that threw its legacy of Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt (and even the true Arizonana of integrity Goldwater) overboard, for the policies of hatred and division best exemplified by Nixon and Joe McCarthy, and now by the angry John McCain and sound bite journalist turned polititian Sarah Palin. We have seen what unbridled GOP rule does, just as previous generations learned the hard way when Herbert Hoover and the GOP ruled with impunity and nearly destroyed the US. It is time to celebrate the country's liberation from GOP crime and oppression. Unlike the GOP, Obama offers an event open to all paid for by those who support him and not the usual fat cats and operatives seen in the past. Obama is the people's President and that is just how it is. Sorry, GOP...jealous?

This is a textbook of megalomania that encompasses Camp Obama. Not that I blame them, but it is.

Re:Mary
"Imagine the damage they will do to beautiful Grant Park. People of Chicago should be furious. I hope there is a snow storm."

Grant park is where they hold lollapalooza and other massive events, I think it can take it just fine. The People of Chicago are proud of their senator and their city

Good thing he's not spending $150k on a wardrobe.

AND THE HATER LIST GOES ON....

To Midwest Mom:

"Mutt" is a derogatory term used to described someone of mixed race.

Obama has outspent McCain 8 to 1. Talk about buying the Presidency. How many poor people could have been helped by all of those millions Obama got for his campaign? And where did he get all that money from, in light of the current economic crisis in the USA? Reminds me of those internet stories of Obama getting donations from Rezko while the tenants of Rezko's buildings had no heat in the winter. Is that what we Americans have to look forward to with an Obama presidency?

Did you notice how the media is more concerned about the amount of money it would take to clothe a VP candidate to be able to campaign in a 'Washington DC' style (her outdoors Alaska clothes wouldn't have been appropriate) than the amount of money Obama spends every single day of his campaign? Talk about a glut of money and a gluttony of spending to buy the presidency.

I didn't read all the threads but for those I did read please note that this is a rally on Nov 4th that candidates have while votes are being tallied up. It goes on into the night sometimes waiting for a decision. If a candidate loses, say "nice try" if they win they continue to celebrate a little bit more. Whether he wins or loses, it's still gonna be a celebration. Chicago wins too with the revenues that come in.

As a campaign donor, I'm okay with how the campaign spends our money. Has anyone asked how much the other candidates are spending on their celebratory rallies? I don't even care what the answer is. If it were your candidate with all of this revenue, he'd be planning a huge celebration too. Don't hate--Congratulate! The country has expressed so much bitterness during this election toward one another. In the end, we all have to continue in this society as one.

To Irish Catholics women 4 Obama-- I didn't know that the Irish Catholics supported abortion. As for the party, let the fun, games and riots begin.

As also a life long chicagoland mand... I will be there celebrating... It's right down the street

I am in my mid-sixties, and I have to admit that I have never been a very “good citizen” in our community nor in our country. I say that because I have always been laid-back, non-participatory and skeptical. I have never believed in politics, nor government nor in the possibility that someone could actually lead us in our common interest.

Lately I have begun to see that, if this skepticism or apathy is the only “gift of my generation”, well it’s no longer needed. It is time to pass the reins to someone with another insight. This echo was particularly strong when I listened to most of John McCain’s campaign speeches, where he repeatedly promised to fight government greed and veto all pork and earmarks. Basically he was confirming that our form of government can Never Work, and that the people in Washington are not worthy to lead us. Nothing left to do when this is a party credo, and it had been my credo for so many years. This is a belief of someone focused only on the separate individual.

But we are not only our separate selves, and just maybe our togetherness is way more basic than our differences. The good part is that we don’t have to believe that, to be open to try it.

A great clarity came to me about this fundamental choice, when last Tuesday night Barack Obama kept repeating the words, “Yes We Can”. I had mistakenly thought that it was yes we can win the election. True, the past has always been “Yes We Can” but only if “You Go First”. That has never worked.

“Yes We Can” are my words only if I choose to be a leader, and no matter what our politics, perhaps they are the only words that can make life worth living in this challenging century. “Yes We Can” will be birthed only in my heart, and can only begin with my neighbors and in my own community. I sincerely hope that every community will pick up this new way of looking at our nation. And I would ask our Mayor Daley to answer every government phone call with the reminder, “Yes We Can, Welcome to Chicago”.

Well all I can say is thank you to all the wonderful people who have no clue what they have subject this country too. It is clearly obvious are school system no longer encourages thinking...lazyness rules. It is pretty pathetic when its a criminal act to make money (which now will be redistributed by the almighty Obama) who knows all. It is obvious the majority of the voter do not think, just blindly follow. (1) What is the job of a CEO - TO MAKE $$ for the shareholders ayway he can. If an Exec was doing something illegal - put them in jail, otherwise he is just doing his job. (3) the housing and mortgage problem - who made the rules that govern what is on an application and who can and cannot be turned away. Who said loadly that everyone should own a home...CONGRESS. The same people who have busted Social Security (too bad they don't have to use it, but they are the elite). All these people who got mortages that they would not afford - why the hell should the average person have the bail them out. Nobody forced them to get the mortgage, just like no one forces anyone to invest in the stock market. It is not the markets fault for the poor preformance and for lost income - it is the individuals fault!! If there is any blame to be had it is with congress and now the non-thinkers and give-me's have put a socialist in the White House - God Help America...
