Barbra Streisand and Ben Harper star at Obama Tuesday fund-raiser

WASHINGTON--Once a Clinton backer, ardent Democrat Barbra Streisand is in the Obama camp and stars at a big dollar concert for him Tuesday night in Beverly Hills.

Variety's Ted Johnson reports "Organizers said Obama's two events on Tuesday sold out by Monday afternoon, including a dinner at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills and a reception and concert at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where Barbra Streisand and Ben Harper are scheduled to perform. In fact, one estimate from the Politico website said the campaign could raise as much as $9 million, perhaps shattering single-day fund-raising records."

More from Ted Johnson...

"Obama's visit comes as some Hollywood donors express anxiety at the state of the race, with polls tightening following the Republican National Convention and the addition of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate.

That may have instilled a greater sense of urgency and improved fund-raising for the two events. The Greystone dinner for about 280 people costs $28,500 per person, and tickets for the Beverly Wilshire reception go for $2,500.The latter was expected to draw about 900 people."

Barabara, you were my Hero while I was growing up. I have all your Movies and most of your CD's. I am shocked to know that you can and will be a party to Obama, who smeared Hillary and are now doing the same thing to Sarah. I can't tell you how many times I defended your Honor even though you were not here. People would critize your Nose, your Face, your Body, your lack of Acting Skills and quirky movements. But to me, you were breaking the molds and setting standards. Obama's Politics are downright ruthless and not good for this Country. I will be sad but, with a clear Heart, I will no longer support you in any new endevors. All my movies and CDs are going in the trash. And my fantasy of you being a Great example for Women is just that, A FANTASY no longer for me. I have grown up.

Barbara who???

Seriously, who cares. These celebidiots are so self-important. Like she should be telling people who to vote for -- Republican or Democrat. She would be NOWHERE without the general public.

Sing like a good little monkey. Here's a penny...

You're such a big fan that you have her name spelled wrong.

You just realized that Barabara was a Dem!. It would seem that you are as out of touch as the party you support.

Well if he don't make history being elected President, he'll make history as raising the most money in defeat !!

In case anyone is wondering the above comment was probably left by what is known as a PUMA. If you do some checking you will find that this organization is funded by the Republican Party.

In other words, this is a troll.

Hobnobbing with the Hollywood elitists...typical liberal b.s.

Why don't these rich folks help out with the hurricane devastation in Texas or in Chicago's ghettos?

BECAUSE they don't care about the little guy. It's all about their selfish, immoral lib agenda.

I wonder if they'll have the styrofoam Roman columns up again for this circus...

Somehow I think Ms. Streisand will be ok without your support.

Why is it, when a woman follows her conscience and supports Obama, people like you liken it to a betrayal of females everywhere? You're the kind of woman who makes the rest of us look like we'll support anyone who is female regardless of her record or her philosophies about women's issues. "Those silly, silly girls!"

I applaud Mrs. Streisand and any other woman who uses her brain when making a choice as important as this one is. This is not about getting a woman--any woman--into the White House. This is about what is best for our country. And if you have so much respect for women...then tell me...does it not bother you that the McCain camp did not choose another woman as his running mate? That they overlooked the contributions of other female Republican candidates--ones who have done more for this country than Mrs. Palin?

The truth is they're counting on people like you to put another Republican into office...someone who is foolish enough to vote their ticket simply to get a female into that White House. And IF they win...as soon as she makes it there...she will be dismissed as a mere nuisance. They didn't choose her for her brains or her record. They chose her because they knew they could fool people like you and because she's without the power or experience to fight back when they send her off for coffee.

You ought to be outraged at the Republican party...not at Barbra Streisand!!

ANOTHER woman who thinks women can do anything and be anything, but in the "tough-take-no-prisoners" world of politics, men have to wear kid gloves and treat women like they're made of porcelain. Hillary gave as good as she got in the campaign and what in the world did Obama say about Palin that was so bad when Palin has said much worse about him?! Streisand, whom I respect and love her music, is ONE woman who is a faithful and loyal DEMOCRAT, not some emotional hysteric who refuses to vote for Obama because he beat Hillary. Go ahead and throw Streisand's CDs and movies in the trash. I'm sure she'll be on welfare tomorrow thanks to you.

I would really like the answer to why Obama speaks on the stump that people are worse off now than four years ago. If that were true why is he a prime example of the American Dream from rags to riches? The Obamas are now millionaires, thanks to America. His doom and gloom message does not resonate with average Americans.

Obama claims America is doing so terrible, but it seems he breaks fundraising records all the time, from so called ordinary citizens contributing. By the way who is his middle class folks, perhaps the projects for stimulus packages? Just sayin...

Most voters see Obama and all his celeb friends as phony and elite, this will back fire on election day. Keep up the double talk Obama...

I too have enjoyed all of Barbra's movies and resent the negative comments about her looks. Her looks are what made her as well as her singing and her acting. She is making an excellent choice in supporting Barack Obama. I think it is too bad that you can't support him with an open mind and a love for this country. He is our chance to make the changes that are necessary. We have to prepare a better way of life for our children. We must leave it better then we found it. God Bless the Obama's and thank you Barbra Streisand for your support.

All this money for a campaign! All of the talk about suffering. Why don't these people put their money where their mouth is and actually help the people that they say they care so much about.. the people that lost a loved one in the Metrolink accident, the Ike tragedy, the foreclosures...help someone save their home instead of giving the money to a candidate that already has millions of dollars. To me it's a waste. Quit being so nasty too.. it's bad enough that the candidates are slinging hate at each other, actors are throwing out their hate as well.

We've become much uglier Americans

MAYBE BARBARA REALLY KNOWS WHO THE BEST CANDIDATE
TRUELY IS!
DON'T STOP BEING HER FAN OVER POLITICS!
EITHER YOU ARE FAIR WEATHER FAN OR YOU ARE JUST
A FANATIC FOR ALL WOMEN, FIRST YOU LIKED HILLARY

A FICKLE PERSON, SHOW SOME LOYALTY AND STICK WITH
SOMETHING FOR A CHANGE!
OBAMA IS THE BEST CANDIDATE, START BEING A FAN
OVER THAT!
