Ted Kennedy tribute at Democratic convention; Pelosi, Michelle's brother Craig Robinson to speak.

The Democrats disgorged a few more conventions details on Tuesday as they drip out the names of speakers to gin up interest in convention week.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) speaks on Monday, where Michelle Obama has already been announced as a headliner. There will also be a special video tribute to the ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) Obama's brother, basketball coach Craig Robinson will also be on the Monday program. Not known: if any of Obama's far flung family will be part of Monday night, where Obama's biography will be a central theme. The Kennedy family fits into that theme, with Obama picking up the generational torch the Kennedy Clan is passing to him.

From the DNC.....

THE 2008 CONVENTION:
MONDAY AUGUST 25th - ONE NATION

Democrats Unveil Additional Key Speakers for Monday August 25th
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Claire McCaskill & Craig Robinson to Speak
Tribute to Senator Kennedy

DENVER - The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and the Obama for America Campaign announced today that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Permanent Chair of the 2008 Convention, will have a prominent speaking role on Monday August 25th, the opening night of the Convention.

Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama's older brother, will be among the featured speakers on Monday August 25th. As previously announced, Michelle Obama will headline Monday night.

The Democratic National Convention will be held in Denver from August 25th through August 28th.

"The theme of Monday's program is One Nation. The opening night of the Convention will highlight Senator Obama's life story, his commitment to change, and the voices of Americans who are calling for a New Direction for this country," said Speaker Pelosi. "Barack Obama's story is an American story that reflects a life of struggle, opportunity and responsibility like those faced by Americans everyday."

Speaker Pelosi and Senator McCaskill will speak late in the program about the values of the Democratic Party, the efforts to take America in a New Direction and to reach out to all voters, in particular new voters, Independents and Republicans, to get the country moving in the right direction at this critical time.

Monday night will also feature a tribute to Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who has worked for more than 45 years to bring the country together and ensure equal opportunity for all Americans.

Also featured on Monday night will be family members of Barack and Michelle Obama. Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama's older brother, will introduce his sister, who will be Monday's headline speaker in prime-time.

As the person who knows him best, Michelle will talk about the Barack Obama she knows and loves, the values that shape him and why she believes he'll be an extraordinary president.

In an effort to highlight the setting of the Convention and the importance of the Mountain West to the Democratic Party, Monday's program will also feature a video segment introducing delegates and other Convention attendees to the natural beauty and strong voices of leadership in the region.

The DNCC and the Obama Campaign will continue to announce elements of the 2008 Convention program throughout this week.

This is all sickening since the Democratic primary was run in such a shoddy manner, and the May 31st. 2008, decision was arrived at by "cheating" and purposely "appointing" a candidate. My VOTE, which is supposed to be my voice was silenced. I used to think that it was Howard Dean, but I now know that the person who is running all of this is Leah Daughtry. Since she is in the "wright" category, what can we expect. We are being run over and truth and fairness is cast aside in order to make a black man POTUS. Votes are not being counted, people are being threatened, caucus outcomes were arranged, I have never and am not now prejudice against blacks, but I am predjudice against SIN, committed by those who profess to be above this type of deceit. Those who make deals in the dark will eventually be exposed, even if you succeed in getting Obama into office, God will call you to task!!! Dirty, Dirty, hands hold the fate of the Denver Convention!!!! Daughtry, Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, Reed, Kerry, Kennedy, Soros, and so many money machines I cannot list them. The root of all evil speaks loudly, when misused.. IF SENATOR CLINTON'S NAME IS NOT PLACED IN NOMINATION AND A ROLL CALL VOTE CONDUCTED, WE WILL KNOW JUST HOW WEAK AND AFRAID YOU ARE. I do believe that it will destroy the Democratic party, what is left of it, since you have already destroyed most of it. Since this is true, I sure hope we are still a free America and this is printed.

I agree with 'anonymous'--I am a Dem faithful and I too have been threatened big time in every way possible.
But it's not about a 'black man' being made potus, however, yes, he is. It's about to whom he is connected. The Daley machine. Like the Kennedy machine, if you'll recall the only reason the repugs didn't protest the stealing of the vote then was that downstate races had been rigged for 'democratic' candidates.
The PEOPLE's party--the socialists--was killed during the Red Scare and with the exception of the McGovern race (and Clinton, til HE got scared and went center, much to Hillary's greatly PILLORIED anger) we haven't had somebody with OUR issues at heart since.
I am part of the ranks of Dems who NEVER woulda voted for Teddy--and his rancorous race cost Jimmy C his second term. Killing a woman in your car and GETTING AWAY WITH IT--how corrupt is THAT? And the party's celebrating this guy. I'm convinced he got to have his senate career and his freedom so long as the fam never griped too much about the killings of John and Bobby.
So, unless Hillary gets to have a REAL vote, we'll probably watch McSame getting sworn in for the Fall.
It's too bad, as all the things I'm for--health care for EVERYONE paid for by CORPORATE AMERICA (Obama and Michelle's financiers), getting outta Iraq, a sane energy policy and mass transit and free education for all--don't seem to be something I'll see in my lifetime now.
Obama sold us out on FISA and the lefty press--Michael Moore included--has largely been silent about it. But they bashed Hillary like they had never read a newspaper in 1992-93.
I think the Dem party will be replaced by the Green Party if we're smart and work for the instant runoff 2nd choice ballot.
Cynthia McKinney is legitimate. Michelle--not so much--to me, anyway.

Reply to Anonymous: Get a life. If the revelations of the Clinton campaign memos don't wake you up to the reality of it all, then you are truly lost. Such a "dirty, dirty" posting!

I cannot agree with Texas Man more! I feel sorry for you Hill diehards but get OVER IT. SHE LOST! Read the memo's article and see exactly how you were used as a political calculation anyway! If you are really for women's rights you will stop this crying over spilled milk and realize that McCain will push women back to the 1800's when they could not vote! In your zeal for Hillary you fail to realize she ran a horrible campaign and the Atlantic article is total proof beyond a reasonable doubt!!! Obama/Biden 08/12!!!!!

Hilary Clinton was the establishment candidate. Her husband was president of the United States, for gosh sake. If they ignored Harold Ikes' delegate math, they are fools and don't deserve the office. (One cannot "wish" caucuses away, as one cannot "wish" money to appear.)

TX man we're already back in the 1800s, judging by the way the party and the media treated Hillary.
She's the only one who can beat McSame.

Not a Hill diehard-- I only MET the womanduring the primary.
SHE WAS ATTACKED BY THE CORPORATE MEDIA FOR PRESSURING BILL NOT TO GO TO THE RIGHT---WHICH IS OBAMA IS DOING EVEN BEFORE BEING TRULY 'SELECTED' AS THE DEM PARTY CANDIDATE. Michelle had better get ready. Hillary had to hide herself away for 8 years.
You Obama fans don't GET IT.
We merely want to WIN against McCain, and, yes, Obama's Chicago method of campaigning puts off most of the country (hell it puts off most of Chicago but people are AFRAID to admit it in Mussolini's, er Daley's world).

Was Mary Jo Koepecne's family invited to the Teddy tribute?

Giving tribute to Teddy is NOT going to help the dem's image as a people party--where WOMEN count.

You know, it's EASY to loathe Bush and Cheney, no? I hope the delegates stand with backs turned during the Teddy tribute.

Too bad George Carlin ain't around to see who's setting up the DNC Convention.

Maybe it's just as well. Sure explains a lot.

THAT'S A LOW BLOW TO BRING UP THAT SITUATION WITH
TED KENNEDY, MIND YOUR MANNERS AND LET'S GIVE
RESPECT TO THE KENNEDY FAMILY!

I WONDER WHERE YOU WERE WHEN CYNTHIA MCKINNEY
WAS TALKING ABOUT 9-11?
PROBABLY HIDING UNDER A ROCK!

MANNERS? Shouting Phil?
Wow, you've really bought into the oligarchy method of governance--which supplanted our democracy--because we LET it.

Phil--I DO respect the Kennedy Family---RFK JR's Ring of Fire Program is amazing.
But, to my mind, the SELL OUT Kennedies are the ones who endorsed Obama.
Here's a bit from the RFK wikipedia site that explains why I admire the Kennedies who support the WORKING CLASS ETHOS I admire:
2008 Presidential election

In late 2007, Robert [31] and his sisters Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Kerry Kennedy[32] announced that they would be endorsing Hillary Clinton.

In response to subsequent endorsements by Caroline Kennedy, Ted Kennedy, and Patrick J. Kennedy for Barack Obama, Robert, Kathleen, and Kerry wrote in a January 29, 2008 editorial, "By now you may have read or heard that our cousin, Caroline Kennedy, and our uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, have come out in favor of Sen. Barack Obama. We, however, are supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton because we believe that she is the strongest candidate for our party and our country."[33] Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was also featured in an ad campaign for Clinton alongside the grandson of Cesar Chavez.[34]

[edit] Political aspirations

In a January 2007 interview in O, The Oprah Magazine, Kennedy hinted that he would run for the position of United States Senator from New York, if Hillary were to win the 2008 Presidential election. His statement "If Hillary left the Senate, I might run for that seat" was seen by Democratic observers as "a blunt warning to possible rivals."[35]

A FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER!
IF THE PATRIARCH OF A FAMILY MAKES A SUGGESTION
AND IT'S THE KENNEDY'S THEY ARE LOYAL AND THEY
FOLLOW SUIT, DON'T HATE THE KENNEDY'S FOR THEIR
LOYALTY TO ONE ANOTHER!
THAT DIVIDE AND CONQUER BULLCRAP DOESN'T WORK
WITH THAT GREAT FAMILY!
AND BESIDES THE SAME HELL THAT OBAMA IS GOING
THROUGH, JFK ALREADY WENT THROUGH IT AND THEY
KNOW IT, IT COST HIM HIS LIFE AND HIS BROTHER AS
WELL!
I LOVE THE KENNEDY'S THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE!

Phil---you're not so much practicing democracy==it's like you think leaders are your priests.
Wasn't there just a 12 million dollar settlement for what some priests did the past 5 or 6 decades?
Divide and conquer? What?

How can it be that it was okay, in 1980, for Ted Kennedy -- with 400 FEWER pledged delegates than Hillary has won this year -- to have HIS name put in nomination at the Democratic nominating convention BUT the Obamatrons consider it unusual for Hillary to have HER name put in nomination?

Ted Kennedy and the Obama crowd seem to "forget" what Ted Kennedy did in 1980 -- and Ted did it with NO opposition from the Democratic Party leaders.

-- In 2008, Hillary Clinton has WON 1639.5 pledged delegates (not counting the superdelegates) -- 400 MORE than Ted Kennedy had in 1980
-- In 2008, Barack Obama has won 1766.5 pledged delegates (not counting the superdelegates) -- 200 FEWER than President Carter had won in 1980

Hillary has won approx. 125 fewer pledged delegate votes than Obama has

Neither Hillary nor Barack has enough pledged delegates to win the nomination -- it ALL depends on the votes of the superdelegates.

BUT, Hillary has won approx. 400 MORE pledged delegates than Ted Kennedy had won in 1980 ... YET Ted took his challenge all the way to the Democratic convention ... challenged the rules in an attempt to steal then-President Carter's delegate votes ... and DID HAVE his name (Ted's) entered in nomination ... and DID HAVE a roll call vote.

In 1980, Ted Kennedy went to the Democratic convention with 1,225 delegates to Carter’s 1,981 (Ted had approx 700 FEWER pledged delegate votes than Carter had ... Hillary has approx. 125 fewer pledged delegate votes than Obama has)

Kennedy came into the Democratic convention at Madison Square Garden in New York City with 1,225 delegates to Carter’s 1,981 and 122 uncommitted. Kennedy’s only chance to wrest the nomination from Carter, who had enough delegates to win, was to pass an "open rule" motion.

And was Ted Kennedy "deferential" (as the Obama "enforcers" insist Hillary should be) and "gentlemanly" about trying to change the rules in his own (Ted's) favor, in 1980?

(excerpt)

The 1980 race had concluded in an especially bitter and contentious convention fight between President Jimmy Carter and Senator Edward Kennedy. The convention fight had centered upon Rule 11 (H) that bound delegates to support the candidate in whose name they were elected. Senator Kennedy’s campaign, in an effort to convince Carter delegates that they should abandon Carter and support him, waged a series of platform and rules challenges culminating in the fight over Rule 11 (H).

In short order the Commission agreed to get rid of the controversial Rule 11(H) and replace it with a less intrusive rule, but one that, nevertheless, urged delegates to vote for the presidential candidate they had been elected to support. The new 11 (H) read:

"Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them."

(This rule exists today, in 2008, as Rule 12 (J) of the delegate selection rules and has not changed since.)

The final delegate tally at the 1980 Democratic nominating convention was in part:

Jimmy Carter – 2,129.02
Ted Kennedy – 1,150.48
