Exclusive: Obama team reserving Old State Capitol in Springfield for Saturday to showcase running mate

updated 2:40 p.m. central time

The Chicago Sun-Times has learned that the Obama team, in the run-up to the Democratic convention, will showcase the new Obama ticket Saturday in Springfield at the Old State Capitol, where presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) officially kicked off his campaign in February, 2007.

State of Illinois authorities have been asked permission by Obama folks to reserve the historic spot at noon. This does not mean that this is the time and place where Obama announces his running mate; that could happen any time from Wednesday morning on. Obama's time frame is shrinking, so the announcement is coming soon. The new vice presidential contender will jump on the road with Obama to showcase the new partnership. Springfield is a leg on the Obama roots tour.

The Obama campaign made it official on Tuesday afternoon--Obama stops at the Old State Capitol in Springfield to kick off a tour of battleground states in the run up to the Democratic convention in Denver.

... have beens...
State of Illinois authorities have beens

beens asked permission?

I can haz Presidency?

Might wanna fix that.

How appropriate. The square in front of the Old State Capitol building is where the Donner Party started their ill-fated trip to California. Hope Obama has as much luck.

The suspense if freaking killing me! I don't think I can wait till then. 10 days till the DNC covention and my excitement is KILLING ME!!!!

I was in Springfield in February and there was a symposium on Abraham Lincoln going on the day after I left. I visited the Lincoln Museum down there and if Obama ever gets compared to Abraham Lincoln I will lose faith in the intelligence of the intellectuals in this country. It seems to me that Obama has a high view of himself and Lincoln had a low view of himself just on the basis of how much of a slob he was. Personally, I feel that a politician needs to be more concerned about public concerns and not anoint himself above the public. Obama has an arrogance that is unlike any politician I've seen and his supporters are almost like disciples. If Obama is president, I see him trying to cover his butt more than doing what he sees is best for America, unlike Abraham Lincoln.

The views of Abraham Lincoln, the great Statesman who labored in the Old Capitol in Springfield, and Barack Hussein Obama could not be more apart. God help us if Obama becomes President. His leadership will be like that of William Jefferson Clinton but only on steroids.

It's a shame that this is the building where many of you Obama supporters think is more of a character-builder than the Hanoi Hilton, where John McCain sacrificed his mind and body to protect our country and the rights of every man, woman and child born under our great flag. To be supporting Barack Obama is absolutely disgraceful. He has done nothing but apologize for our country. Apologize? For what? The people in Paris that are speaking French and not German should be thanking people like John McCain. Not Barack Hussein Obama.

Grow up. His whole "campaign" is nothing but a marketing tactic. Just like the 5 for $5.95 at Arby's. Marketing tactic.

Great idea, to use the State House where he announced. Artistically full circle.

Is this for sure, Lynn? My husband and I went to the announcement on Feb, 2007. We would love to be there for this if they are definitely going to have an event there.
Please keep us updated and I will keep an eye on the column.
I would love to go back again even if it is 3 hours from Rockford,

Well since he can't get Che Guevara, he's seeing if they Hugo Chavez is willing and able to take a lesser VP post? There are simply no Democrats liberal (socialist) enough that he can truly approve of!

Super! Living in Springfield, I will hopefully be able to be there.

check you spelling

This whole campaign is starting to take on all of the artifical glitz of a Hollywood movie Preview which never has any substance to it. Maybe Mc Cain was correct when he had overlays of Brittany in his recent ad. Come on, Guys, the Presidency is serious business and should be treated accordingly. Let's just get back to good old American campaigning and talk about substance and forget imagery. Is the next tour stop at the Statue of Liberty?

So of these comments on here are just silly.. Its 2008 out with the old in with the new! What other Presidential candidate has had over millions of young people sign up to vote?? NONE until Barak Obama came along.. Get with the program people, the future is in the hands of us young people...

Wow, the ignorance of most of you is astounding. Your bitterness is amazing. Barrack Obama will be the next president of the United States. No amount of your garbage will change that.
You want a president that will discuss issues? Why are you supporting McCain, who obviously can not win on issues, and needs to dive into the mud to bring the campaigns with him? Obama a celebrity? I do believe it was, once again, McCain and his wannabe Rovian tactics that brought on that image.
You honestly believe McCain's time as a POW has anything at all to do with him being president? You are very foolish if you believe that. He was shot down, and gave into the pressure of torture, unlike the vast majority of his fellow prisoners. Congrats to the war hero.
Of course, whether it is the travesties of war, or his advancing age, or an inability to grasp the world at large, McCain has an impossible time understanding even the most fundamental aspects of foreign relations in this century.

Keep spewing your hate, and keep being ignorant. Mr. Obama will be your leader soon.

congrats to hillary clinton, you will make a great vp. barrack was very smart in picking you. He knew he could't win without you.

Finally America will set a new course....unlike the disasterous administration we have been stuck with. God help America if they vote the same McSame! This so-called hero runs on POW credentials, a hero used to be a person who saves others not just themselves! He is no hero!

Barry Hussein's inspiration: "Anyone who is working against the haves is always facing odds, and in many cases heavy odds. If he or she does not have that complete self-confidence [ego] that he can win, then the battle is lost before it is even begun." --Alinsky

I think it's Al Franken - cause he's liberal enough, he's offensive enough, and daw goneit, people dispise him. Put a nail in that coffin.

So he may come BACK to Illinis this Saturday. big whoop! I live in Illinois, the midwest side. Trust me, no politician from Springfield, (actually they live in mob infested Chicago) cares what goes on in the lower state. Our governor is totally corrupt. He is hardly ever in Springfield (where our capitol is) We have to pay for a place in Chicago for him to live and pay for him to fly back and forth to Springfield.
Obama brought NO CHANGE to this state! The state he lived in. WHY DO YOU THINK HE WOULD DO ANY BETTER AS PRESIDENT??!!!!

No doubt if Grandfather Mc Cain is elected there will be cuts in Social Security and money for schools and roads, he will send your children off to die in foreign countries so that wealthy donors can make money from it...oh and I hope you like paying $4/gallon or more for gasoline because they will make sure it stays there or higher.

God help the USA if he's elected.

when you say Obama *has a high view of himself* you forget to add "for a black man". No one would ever write that about McSame even though he is obviously an egomaniac, the reason they don't write that about McBush is he was born 100% white. Every single antiObama post above had buzz words/phrases that implied you are against Obama mainly for his skin color, some of it may be more subtle than others but it is racism all the same. Before you start with the insults, I am a 41-year-old SAHM, white and Catholic.

Bobby Metzinger - what is it about being a veteran that makes it an automatic qualifier to serve as president of the US. Military service, though noble, does not reflect the executive demands that will be placed on the leader of the nation. The intelligent choice is Obama, a bright young man who was president of the Harvard Law Review. McCain, though a noble serviceman, graduated nearly last at the Naval Academy and has little to no understanding of economic policy or strategy.

Please move past your delusional ideals of what a President should be. We need an intelligent, capable leader, not GI Joe, the American Hero. You think Obama is a "marketing tactic"? It's clear that you haven't taken the time to check out the substance which accompanies his form. Educate yourself.

The pure hate coming out of the mouth of you conservatives is hillarious and very promising, Obama must be doing something right to spark so much ridiculous stupidity, hate and anger...Just because our candidate brings life, energy and BRAINS to politics and yours brings stupidity, dullness and complete ignorance doesn't mean you people have to be all bitter about it...give it a break neos, you are looking more and more desperate everyday...

08ama, and there's nothing you can do about it(except maybe steal it AGAIN)!

Ludacris for v.p.

Obama is a loser. We should have nominated Hillary. He is whining at every turn and should be ahead by 10 but will probably lose by 10 points or more.

"where John McCain sacrificed his mind and body to protect our country and the rights \"

This shows why John McCain is unfit to be President, we need a President with his mind INTACT, not 'sacrificed in the Hanoi Hilton'.

As he did so often in the state legislature, will Obama be voting "Present"?

Obama will announce that George Clooney is his running mate. Please tell me this guy does not take himself serious.

It is really interesting how both the liberals and the conservatives accuse the other of being hateful, bitter, and angry and saying all of the horrible things, calling people names, etc. Hey guys, let me tell you a secret, THEY BOTH DO IT all of the time. This has gone on in political discourse in America since before there was a USA. Get over it! Who cares? Hussein, McSame, the old Ho***, the arrogant N*****. Calling either one of them or their supporters anything you want does not change in any way their experience(s) (or lack thereof), their positions on issues, their voting records, their past associations or statements, etc. What is does do is make those saying these things look like ignorant, uninformed children. Why not just talk about the issues and about what makes one candidate or the other either qualified or not qualified to hold the office of POTUS?

Here is a link to an article by a former Hanoi Hilton POW(8 years)it's entitled "Why I Will Not Vote for John McCain",15202,164859_1,00.html

Why I Will Not Vote for John McCain
Phillip Butler
As some of you might know, John McCain is a long-time acquaintance of mine that goes way back to our time together at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Prisoners of War in Vietnam. He is a man I respect and admire in some ways. But there are a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President of the United States.

When I was a Plebe (4th classman, or freshman) at the Naval Academy in 1957-58, I was assigned to the 17th Company for my four years there. In those days we had about 3,600 midshipmen spread among 24 companies, thus about 150 midshipmen to a company. As fortune would have it, John, a First Classman (senior) and his room mate lived directly across the hall from me and my two room mates. Believe me when I say that back then I would never in a million or more years have dreamed that the crazy guy across the hall would someday be a Senator and candidate for President!

John was a wild man. He was funny, with a quick wit and he was intelligent. But he was intent on breaking every USNA regulation in our 4 inch thick USNA Regulations book. And I believe he must have come as close to his goal as any midshipman who ever attended the Academy. John had me "coming around" to his room frequently during my plebe year. And on one occasion he took me with him to escape "over the wall" in the dead of night. He had a taxi cab waiting for us that took us to a bar some 7 miles away. John had a few beers, but forbid me to drink (watching out for me I guess) and made me drink cokes. I could tell many other midshipman stories about John that year and he unbelievably managed to graduate though he spent the majority of his first class year on restriction for the stuff he did get caught doing. In fact he barely managed to graduate, standing 5th from the bottom of his 800 man graduating class. I and many others have speculated that the main reason he did graduate was because his father was an Admiral, and also his grandfather, both U.S. Naval Academy graduates.

People often ask if I was a Prisoner of War with John McCain. My answer is always "No - John McCain was a POW with me." The reason is I was there for 8 years and John got there 2 ½ years later, so he was a POW for 5 ½ years. And we have our own seniority system, based on time as a POW.

John's treatment as a POW:

1) Was he tortured for 5 years? No. He was subjected to torture and maltreatment during his first 2 years, from September of 1967 to September of 1969. After September of 1969 the Vietnamese stopped the torture and gave us increased food and rudimentary health care. Several hundred of us were captured much earlier. I got there April 20, 1965 so my bad treatment period lasted 4 1/2 years. President Ho Chi Minh died on September 9, 1969, and the new regime that replaced him and his policies was more pragmatic. They realized we were worth a lot as bargaining chips if we were alive. And they were right because eventually Americans gave up on the war and agreed to trade our POW's for their country. A damn good trade in my opinion! But my point here is that John allows the media to make him out to be THE hero POW, which he knows is absolutely not true, to further his political goals.

2) John was badly injured when he was shot down. Both arms were broken and he had other wounds from his ejection. Unfortunately this was often the case - new POW's arriving with broken bones and serious combat injuries. Many died from their wounds. Medical care was non-existent to rudimentary. Relief from pain was almost never given and often the wounds were used as an available way to torture the POW. Because John's father was the Naval Commander in the Pacific theater, he was exploited with TV interviews while wounded. These film clips have now been widely seen. But it must be known that many POW's suffered similarly, not just John. And many were similarly exploited for political propaganda.

3) John was offered, and refused, "early release." Many of us were given this offer. It meant speaking out against your country and lying about your treatment to the press. You had to "admit" that the U.S. was criminal and that our treatment was "lenient and humane." So I, like numerous others, refused the offer. This was obviously something none of us could accept. Besides, we were bound by our service regulations, Geneva Conventions and loyalties to refuse early release until all the POW's were released, with the sick and wounded going first.

4) John was awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart for heroism and wounds in combat. This heroism has been played up in the press and in his various political campaigns. But it should be known that there were approximately 600 military POW's in Vietnam. Among all of us, decorations awarded have recently been totaled to the following: Medals of Honor - 8, Service Crosses - 42, Silver Stars - 590, Bronze Stars - 958 and Purple Hearts - 1,249. John certainly performed courageously and well. But it must be remembered that he was one hero among many - not uniquely so as his campaigns would have people believe.

John McCain served his time as a POW with great courage, loyalty and tenacity. More that 600 of us did the same. After our repatriation a census showed that 95% of us had been tortured at least once. The Vietnamese were quite democratic about it. There were many heroes in North Vietnam. I saw heroism every day there. And we motivated each other to endure and succeed far beyond what any of us thought we had in ourselves. Succeeding as a POW is a group sport, not an individual one. We all supported and encouraged each other to survive and succeed. John knows that. He was not an individual POW hero. He was a POW who surmounted the odds with the help of many comrades, as all of us did.

I furthermore believe that having been a POW is no special qualification for being President of the United States. The two jobs are not the same, and POW experience is not, in my opinion, something I would look for in a presidential candidate.

Most of us who survived that experience are now in our late 60's and 70's. Sadly, we have died and are dying off at a greater rate than our non-POW contemporaries. We experienced injuries and malnutrition that are coming home to roost. So I believe John's age (73) and survival expectation are not good for being elected to serve as our President for 4 or more years.

I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a hot head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next to that red button.

It is also disappointing to see him take on and support Bush's war in Iraq, even stating we might be there for another 100 years. For me John represents the entrenched and bankrupt policies of Washington-as-usual. The past 7 years have proven to be disastrous for our country. And I believe John's views on war, foreign policy, economics, environment, health care, education, national infrastructure and other important areas are much the same as those of the Bush administration.

I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate Republican. On some issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right. I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent continuing loss of individual freedoms, especially regarding moral and religious issues. John is not a religious person, but he has taken every opportunity to ally himself with some really obnoxious and crazy fundamentalist ministers lately. I was also disappointed to see him cozy up to Bush because I know he hates that man. He disingenuously and famously put his arm around the guy, even after Bush had intensely disrespected him with lies and slander. So on these and many other instances, I don't see that John is the "straight talk express" he markets himself to be.

Senator John Sidney McCain, III is a remarkable man who has made enormous personal achievements. And he is a man that I am proud to call a fellow POW who "Returned With Honor." That's our POW motto. But since many of you keep asking what I think of him, I've decided to write it out. In short, I think John Sidney McCain, III is a good man, but not someone I will vote for in the upcoming election to be our President of the United States.

4 more years of high gas prices
4 more years of high unemployment
4 more years of housing disasters
4 more years of WAR and our sons and daughters dying
4 more years of hate mongering
4 more years of the rich getting richer
4 more years of the poor getting poorer
4 more years to see if your company dies
and you pension with it.
4 more years of rising utility prices
4 more years of rising crime, drug problems
associated with all the previous
4 more years of Republican lies and trillion dollar debt
4 mre years..well I hope you get it by now.
OBAMA for President! and not soon enough!

who is barrack?

I would suggest that Obuma announce at Disney World or at even more appropriately Dollywood. That will be in keeping with his artificial inflation of himself. Hate has nothing to do with it. It is more about love of our country and the desire not to have a total self agrandizing idiot destroy it. Where to you get off talking about Obuma's "brain"--the guy cant put three words together without a teleprompter telling him what to say. The job of president is certainly far far above the minimum wage for a Chicago political hack he deserves..

hey - here's an idea:

the economy is great
jobs are everywhere
everyone has healthcare
we are loved around the world
the budget is in great shape

let's elect ANOTHER republican! they've done a great job in the past 8 years.

seriously - let's vote out ALL incumbents and start over. how much worse can it get?!?! Barr for president

Vamos Obama!! Please, no Republican agenda for the next 4 years!!

Super! Being from Springfield I can show up with my picket sign exposing Barack for his vote (in Illinois in 2001) against the "Born Alive Infants Protection Act". Three times in the Illinois legislature, Obama helped block a bill that was designed solely to protect the life of infants already born, and outside the womb, who had miraculously survived the attempt to kill them during an abortion. Obama voted to let doctors and nurses allow these tiny human beings to die of neglect and be tossed out with the medical waste.

Obama and OJ have the same supporters - blinded race based fools

gotta love the clueless irony of the barack devotees who, in the vilest and nastiest ways, accuse anyone who isn't also a barack supporter of hatred, anger, and, of course, racism. i also note that they've already started the meme that, should barack not win, then the election must have been stolen .. by evil racists, no doubt... sigh.

I see lots of republican ne'er say wells on this site....BUT I have had enough of the so-called fiscally conservative republicans who just keep running the deficit up from Reagan to the current GW. Clinton, a so-called tax and spend democrat is the only one who had a budget surplus! go figure!!
I have voted in many elections, but this is the first time I actually even donated money and felt more than just satisfied with my candidate.
You go Obama!

What an idiotic comment! Anyone who votes against B.O. is doing it because of racism? This guy is not at a disadvantage because of his skin color -- in fact, it might be the biggest thing that he as going for him because people like you can automatically try to paint those opposed to him as racist.

The reasons that I oppose Obama are his positions, when I can pin him down on one. He is in favor of appointing activist justices who will legislate from the bench what cannot be won in the political process. (Read his "Audacity" book.) He has no concept of business, and does not realize, or admit, that businesses exist to make a profit for their shareholders. Exxon made $11 billion last quarter, but paid $34 billion in taxes -- the government made 3 times as much as Exxon. Take away so-called tax breaks? Oil companies will raise their prices to reach acceptable profit levels.

Increase minimum wage? That's a tax increase on small mom-and-pop businesses. He wants to surrender in Iraq, and would gladly do so to win an election. His economic plans, like those of Karl Marx, center on confiscation of wealth for redistribution.

No, Barack is not unfit to be President because of his skin color. He is unfit for the same reasons that John Kerry was unfit. Skin color is just a coincidence.

Bobby M.:

Last time I checked, Vietnam had nothing to do with the French speaking German. In fact, most people would say that it had little to do with protecting Americans' rights. McCain served admirably in a stupid war, but this does not automatically qualify him to be a great president.

My God! Some of you people really hate Obama. Do you even know why? Has he done something to you personally?

Do you really disagree THAT passionately with his policy positions? Or is it something deeper than that?

Stop the hate! We can disagree without being disagreeable. Or maybe not?

Buyer's remorse all around... Obama should be leading by 15+ points and HE'S NOT:

The latest Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll shows that Obama, the first black major-party nominee, may have defused the issue of race, particularly among independents who will form a crucial voting bloc in the November election.

With the nominating conventions set to begin next week, Illinois Senator Obama edges McCain 42 percent to 41 percent among registered voters; minor-party candidates garner 5 percent. In a head-to-head match-up, Obama has a 2-point advantage over Arizona Senator McCain. The results are within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Unfortunately, BHO is a fiction,a figment and, without a doubt, ephemeral...he also has proven to be a person of small intellect which will become more apparent between now and Nov..he cannot survive shown last Saturday because he does not have the requisite intellect or the knowledge..too bad he is not the complete package because we could use it right now..this will be a rout....maybe worse than McGovern

Hey all -
Read a book by Kevin Phillips called "Bad Money"
to truly understand why it makes no difference who wins in November...
Our goose is owned, cooked and being eaten by our emenies as I write this and in addition the people that got us into this unholy financial mess are primarily on Wall Street and the smart money there is backing The O boy - he's bought and paid for already -
It will be more of the same with either of them
so I vote for the guy who's seen more of the world and isn't a strict doctrainare and has some common sense.

Do the McCain supporters really want another 4 years of what we have now? You say that McCain is a war hero, but he certainly has no morales or ethics...he cheated on his wife and left her for another women. Ethics and morales are more important than being a POW. Being a POW does not make you a President.

Take away his Teleprompter with David Axelrod's words and he's nothing.

Nice ties, though.

"State of Illinois has-beens"

Obama can not stand up to a debate and all of you Republican hate mongers know it. Not one of you can make an argument to support why Obama should be President. He has no leadership experience and has not demonstrated any principles to stand on. Everything we see about this man contradicts what his handlers want to portray him as. Obame can only go after the votes of the underprivileged and the uninformed or those that know him for his "Celebrity" status.
McCain is a man of principles and character. For years he has fought the battles for us on some good issue and some issues I totally disagree with. How does Obama match up to that experience? If you listen to McCain he has fought the battle of a broken political system and was not in agreement with the Bush administration. If you Obama lovers would study your history you would see what a McCain difference can be.
The only change Obama will exceed with is driving us into a deeper recession with Higher Taxes and gas prices higher than $4.00. All I've heard from Obama is what we shouldn't be doing. The only solution he has is exploring alternative resources. The one good thing about some of the alternative resources is in 10 years gas prices will be high enough to make the alternative cost effective. An Obama Presidency means more money out of your pocket and into the pockets of a continuing broken system.

Jimmy Middlekauff, help me out.

What exactly has Sen. Obama actually accomplished?

He was editor of Law Review - OK. No scholarly papers authored, so what did he DO?. Somewhere along the way he was also a law professor... Not a single scholarly article exists from his teaching period.

He was also a community organizer. What does that mean in terms of concrete day to day activity. How much organization is required in a community and who pays the salary of the organizers. How is success measured? How does that translate to running the USA?

In the Illinois Senate he is famous for voting present. What does that accomplish, besides not doing the job he was elected to do.

He was a US Senator for 143 days with no significant legislation proposed. In that time, he was "awarded" the distinction of being the most liberal Senator.

Compare that to Mc Cain who is called the Maverick for breaking with Republicans and going with Democrats. McCain/Feingold...McCain/Kennedy...Amnesty for Illegal Aliens...does that ring any bells? Does it sound like Far Right Wing track record? No awards to McCain for being the most conservative.

Obama talks like a unifier but votes (when he votes) as a straight line Democrat. McCain has 30+ years reaching across party lines.

I see a guy who absolutely can not complete a sentence unless he has a teleprompter in front of him. A completely empty suit. Dems like to laugh at Bush as an idiot, but at least the guy can string 10 words together without Not to get side tracked, but how come we never hear about Bush having better GPA than John Kerry, while at the same school and same time.

In the South we call Sen Obama a post turtle. You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he can't get anything done while he's up there, and you just want to help the poor dumb bastard get down.

Bob - I like your reference to no business experience. I heard the other day a comment was made years ago by a Senator who continually generated revenue off of businesses through taxation. After years in the Senate and now operating his own business he realized if he had the business experience back in his days of the Senate he would have a better understanding of the effects theses taxes have on business owners.

Obama has not even been a Senator for a full term and with the last 19 months devoted to campaigning, what experience does he have in the Senate let alone understanding remotely what effect Congress has on the busiess man or the individual tax payer.

Bob in St. Lous, your comment is full of distortions. Here's one:
"Exxon made $11 billion last quarter, but paid $34 billion in taxes."

In the Exxon balance sheet I saw at, the only tax item listed for the last quarter was Deferred Income Taxes of $24,299,000,000.

Where's the proof that Exxon paid $34 billion in income tax for the last quarter?

Your comments suggesting Obama would be bad for mom&pop business is more distortion. Here are some comments by Obama's economic advisers from the Aug. 14 WSJ:

"Sen. Obama also recognizes that small businesses are the engine of job growth in the economy. That is why he is proposing additional tax cuts, including a tax credit for small businesses that provide health care, and the elimination of capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups. The vast majority of small businesses would face lower taxes under the Obama plan than under the McCain plan. ... Go look at the plans for yourself at"

I want to know if Obama's mentor, State Senate President Emil Jones II, will be present?

The same Emil Jones who decided yesterday and placed his son, Emil Jones III, on the ballot by fiat.

The same Emil Jones who mocked those who wanted a vote on the 12% pay raise he desired anove and beyond the cost of living raise he had already received.

If this is the type of "Change" Obama is going to provide I want nothing to do with same!

Averagejoe - Yes this is what you will get with OBAMA
4 more years of high gas prices - Just what Obama is asking for

4 more years of high unemployment - the end result from higher individual income taxes and increased Corporate Taxes, no one will have the discretionary income to buy goods and services

4 more years of housing disasters - If it wasn't for the ACLU and Liberal Democrats we wouldn't have this disaster and what is Obama's solution?

4 more years of WAR and our sons and daughters dying - We will have more than 4 years of War when the Islam Fanatics attack us with greater force than 9/11. They are looking forward to an Obama presidency.

4 more years of hate mongering - Yes we will hate the lost of freedoms Obama will deprive us of - the freedom of speech - the freedom to bear arms - the freedom of choice the list goes on.

4 more years of the rich getting richer - If it wasn't for the rich getting richer you wouldn't have a job.

4 more years of the poor getting poorer - the poor have a choice to make "Get poorer" of "Do something for themselves" as our immigrant forbearers did.

4 more years to see if your company dies
and you pension with it. - It is not the Gov't job to bail out poor company management and poor invidual decisions. What about the Unions and how they destroy a company with forcing increased benefits and wages to the point the company must close their door.

4 more years of rising utility prices - You don't think utility prices won't go up with alternative energy resources? Obama wants to spend billions on exploring alternative resources - Who do you think is going to pay for this?

4 more years of rising crime, drug problems
associated with all the previous - If students were encouraged to make something of them selves through better education and less bureaucracy maybe crime will diminish.

4 more years of Republican lies and trillion dollar debt - Every politician lies and with all Obamas proposals I don't know how he will avoid additional debt.

4 mre years..well I hope you get it by now.
OBAMA for President! and not soon enough!

Yes I get the message and that is why McCain is the solution.

To Hillary C.

In the real world, the Donner Party started from what is now Iles Park, about 2 miles south of downtown Springfield.

I'm from Illinois and proud to be supporting Barack Obama. He is the real deal. I live near Springfield and will definitely be at his historic announcement in Springfield at the Old State Capitol on Saturday. I've met Senator Obama personally several times. As President of the USA, Senator Obama will provide the leadership we need to improve our standing in the Global community. He will get us out of an unfair and unfounded war in Iraq. He will target our real enemies and curtail the activities of Osama bin Laden. He will ensure that all citizens of the USA have access to affordable health care. He will put us on a path to economic security. Oh, by the way, for the first time ever, I asked for a Democrat ballot in the Illinois primary election. I've been a lifelong Republican. I've had enough. the words of McCain's spokesman...
Americans are a bunch of whiners!
Stop your whining America!
Get used to the pain! You got 4 more years of it coming.
And then McCain says after hearing that remark..that his spokesman doesn't speak for him.
He's off his meds or something...
OBAMA for President!

If Wes Clark is the VP,
McCain will be required to salute him

I'm voting for McCain because one crazy old man in the White House means one less crazy old man driving on the streets. He may blow up Russia and Iran, but at least he won't mow me down at the Farmer's Market

McCain/Naptime 08

McSame is a doddering old man who sold his soul to Bush and Cheney.
All mcSame is now is a typical rightwing loser.
Obama is a brilliant man who will be a great president and I am looking forward to being in
springfield Saturday afternoon with my husband cheering obama on and his veep pick.
I personally hope its Biden.
and unbeatable ticket.

What would happen if we had the right to vote for either candidate or say NO CONFIDENCE to either candidate.
What if more people voted NO CONFICENCE than voted for either candidate?
Maybe that would send a message to both parties.

No is a choice.

Does anybody know what time is the rally?
i would love to attend it even though its 4 hour drive from my place.

If anyone can give me a logical explanation of how McCain getting shot down and being a POW qualifies him to be the leader of a country, I will vote for him.

Getting his men captured and being a POW does NOT in any way qualify McCain to be the leader of the USA! We should all be paying close attention to who BOTH these idiots select as running mate because one could drop dead at any minute from old age and one could get killed by some redneck who has a thing for blacks at any time! Is it too late to put someone ELSE on this ticket? I, for one, KNOW I could do a better job than either of these, and God have mercy on the USA whichever one gets the job.

For those interested in coming on Saturday to support our next President, details are available at the Springfield Journal-Register's site:

No third bush term - no way.

I am amazed at the racists who post to this thread; people who fear the ACLU; people who believe that all of the poor “chose” to be poor. I am an educated white male and I understand that many white males do not comprehend the true workings of the world. The rich getting richer does not guarantee jobs for the rest of the population. If the rich are doing all of the manufacturing and production out of the country and are only selling product in the US, then where are these jobs? Are you saying that the import and sales positions really make up that many job opportunities? The housing disaster is not due to the ACLU. It happened because some overly greedy people in banking institutions saw an opportunity to exploit the loan system. (Does Enron ring a bell?) The reasons were because people were focused on a bottom line and investor returns, and forgot about the product. Maybe you should dig a little deeper before you comment.

I also believe that anyone who uses Obama's middle name as a fear tactic has no idea of why we should vote for a candidate and should not be allowed to vote. It is a good thing for you that voting is a right. If Americans had to take an I.Q. test before they were allowed to vote, Bush would have never made it into office and people who use fear tactics such as Obama's middle name would never be allowed to vote. Barack did not choose his name in the same way that you did not choose your name. If you cannot debate your position based the positives of your candidate, do not stoop to trying to use fear tactics. If the only reason to not vote for Obama is his middle name, then I guess you also voted for Bush because you have an affinity for the letter W. Do the country a favor and stay home on election day. We don't need anyone who does not understand the positions of the candidates to vote based on names, hair color, skin color, or the clothes they wear. Please go back to your militia camp in the middle of nowhere and understand that this country no longer has room for racists. It is time for people to vote based on the best candidate for the country. It is time for OBAMA.

WOW...I'll be SURE TO CHEER the great Blah-rack O-Blah-Ma this Saturday...right before I ask his majesty a few questions like...

Why is Springfield IL paying $8 dollars a bag for home-grown potato's?

Why is Obama's brother in Kenya living on $1 dollar a month?

Why are Springfield's state-run food banks empty?

Why did Obama vote TWICE AGAINST the state and fed bills to save babies aborted ALIVE?

Why won't Obama tell America he wasn't IN THE SENATE to vote for/against the Iraq war from the beginning?

Then I'll grab a few daisies for the 'citizen of the world' and snap a few pictures to add to my scrapbook of Obama + family + fourteen friends on a posh Hawaii vacation while world war III nearly breaks out with Russia : )

Sounds like LOADS of FUN don't it?!?

@ Mi Mi:
Obama doesn't need to TELL YOU he wasn't in the senate to vote for/against Iraq. That is a FACT. It isn't being hidden, for crying out loud.
What you can understand, from the way he spoke out against the war, is that he has good judgement. McCain like to brag about his own "surge" judgement. What he ISN'T saying, is that his judgement about going to Iraq was faulty.
Did you know that he was talking about going to war with Iraq the day AFTER 911? Kinda makes you think there was a plan to go into Iraq, doesn't it?

Oh, and going to Hawaii isn't against the law. He was born there, he is entitled to a vacation, etc.
I don't see you complaining about George Bush spending literally one third of his 2 terms at Crawford or Camp David. And if you're looking for World War III, just go ahead and elect McCain then. I'm sure he'll put a military draft in effect to keep all our children either fighting a war or dead.

What Brain Phil? Also please stop using Capital Letters. Also where do you get your information?
