If you squint, you can see how far back the Illinois delegation is seated at the GOP convention.

ST. PAUL--When Republicans gather here at the Xcel Center to nominate John McCain, the Illinois delegation will have just about the worst seats in the house. The delegates will sit just in front of American Samoa. Such is the fate of Republicans from Barack Obama's homestate. At the Democratic convention in Denver, the Illinois delegates were front and center.

I just finished a stint on CNN's "Reliable Sources" talking with host Howard Kurtz about the media treatment of Sarah Palin--the Alaska governor who surprised the political press when McCain tapped her to be his running mate.

The segment--with Politico's Roger Simon and Dana Milbank of the Washington Post--was shot on the convention floor. The contrast between the GOP and Democratic theatrics is stark.

The GOP stage is barebones--just a podium and a big screen for background-- compared to the multi-tiered, light and sound, custom woodworked Democratic creation.

It should come as no surprise that the Republican Convention lacks imagination, intelligence, or flair. It just reflects the political party holding it!

I believe the media will be so afraid of being charged with political bias that they will be soft on Palin. They're going to talk about her charisma, children, etc.

Hello...we are in two wars, Russia is flexing their muscles and John McCain is going to pick a VP nominee that he met once...that has no foreign policy experience...that has been a Governor for less than 2 years.

Simply to shake things up and make a historic claim for his own ticket...are you kidding me? Someone that is going to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

I mean I realize the media has a job to do but they are also mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunts and uncles...how can this not scare you?

So to talk about this woman's charisma when we're talking about the VP of the United States and in the midst of some very serious domestic and foreign policy issues makes absolutely no sense to me. So when she has to sit at the table to discuss issues related to Russia and Georgia is charisma supposed to offer some kind of helpful insight??

You mean we are being invited to comment ... on this? Well, OK. To my fellow Republicans who don't get front row seats at the Republican National Convention; I sure wish I could be there with you ... in ANY seat. We will be watching from afar and cheering with you for the coming victory when John McCain and Sarah Palin take the White House in November. Rest assured, the Obama Machine and the liberal press have every reason to worry. Continue to campaign and urge others to vote.

It’s important to note that the John McCain and Sarah Palin don't need a "Super Bowl Half Tim Glitz Show" in place of the substance that will surely be there. Obama and his advance speakers’ generated a lot of smoke and sparks and said very little. Perhaps they were too busy "reintroducing" themselves since the country wasn't happy with what they saw during the months previous to their convention.

The Repbulicans and McCain/Plain are a bunch of loosers. How on earth can we trust a man who picked a woman just because she is a woman? they must think we are stupid. This is a judgement issue! Plain commanding the Armed forces?ask her what the capital of Pakistan is or any other international related issue. Not only would I really like to hear her answer, also how she came about her answers! It wouldn't be because she knows anything about foregin policy it would be because someone would be whispering the answers in her ears. This got to go down as one of the most sadest moments in the American History.

Illinois delgates should get the worst seats in the house because they are the biggest whimps around.

Illinois is going down the drain under the control of the Democrats. My wife and I are planning our exit from this state because of the Three Stoges: Daley, Stroger and Jones. Now we want to elect Mr Change whose heros are those same Three Stoges who I just named.

God Help this Country and this State.

"..."worST"...not..."worSE".

I am proud of the Republican party for not
planning to go all out at the convention. In
my opinion, Obama was acting like he had just
been elected president! Made me sick!!!
I also think we should put Illinois in the
front row!!! I was born and raised in Illinois
and have always been a republican (and proud
of it!) as are most of my relatives who think
there is a lot of corruption in Illinois. We Republicans need to take back the state!!!

LOL...It looks more like they're going to hold an AMWAY Convention, only without any good motivational speakers!

That can't be true because there aren't any Republicans in Illinois.

I am not big on convention especially by a party who has forgotten what it means to be a republican....The corruption of the party is seen by the facts...tax cuts to the richest 10% of the country and no wage increase for other 90% of the country.
Bushonomics has not only ruined the party but ruined the country. He will be leaving a deficit of 3 trillion dollars, because of the war, it will take years to pay by all americans.
McCain so far has lied, he has used smears and lies toward his opponent sen. Obama and he has clearly demonstrated with his foreing policy gaffes, he is not material for president , neither is the vice lady.
The attitude of the Bush government has been a fascist agenda and a blow to our constitution.
The only people who still dare to be republicans are ignorant about the facts or paid by the party to support them.No good smart, hard working american would support its failures and the one to come...McCain...another failure who has been propped up by his father and his wife to get where he is.
Back from Iraq, the soldiers are donating to Obama's campaign 6 to 1....seems obvious who they back.

"God Help this Country and this State."

With you and your wife leaving it, God apparently heard your prayer. At least for the state.

I work in oncology at a major hospital. If you compare McCain's pic's now to 4 years ago, he is not well.
The man has is 72 yrs old and has survived melanoma twice, that is rare. Melanoma is usually fatal and fast!
The man has chosen this women with no experience. I live in the Pacific NW and to tell it, Sarah has given ever person in Alaska $1000 rebate.
I live and work with Alaskans. ever since the pipeline was built, they have been getting rebates, might I add, it used to be much more than $1000.
Ask yourselves, if McCain wins and doesn't make it the 4 years,
In November, WOULD YOU RIGHT NOW, VOTE PALIN FOR PRESIDENT? YOU VERY WELL MAY BE DOING JUST THAT!
MCCAIN DID NOT PUT HIS COUNTRY FIRST, HE PUT WINNING AT ALL COST FIRST!

I am just an observer from Canada and I think this is poetic justice - almost 3 years to the day - last time around during Hurricane Katrina both George Bush and John McCain were celebrating McCain's birthday (eating cake) and much attention was not given to New Orleans in a timely manner - their response and reaction this time sure proves they learned something from that experience.

However, I have been wondering for some time now if all this talk of McCain's POW experience and the terrible torture he went through has not in some way affected his thinking - the way he talks about war and brings his answer to every question around to his POW experience makes me question the stability of his thoughts and judgment. For all we know, he may still have a lot of mental scars from his experience and do you all feel it safe to have his hand on the red button.

Also, if all this information coming out about his VP pick, Sarah Palin, is true who may I ask vetted her? John McCain did not even campaign with her before he chose her or am I wrong about that. How could John McCain just use Romney, Lieberman, Pawlenty, etc. when John was not leaning towards them (in fact on Thursday I heard Pawlenty was asked to clear his calendar and head back home because he was on top of the list) - I question his judgment, integrity and trustworthiness! And to think he was my first choice - such sadness and disappointment.

the repubs are canceling some convention programs because of hurricane gustav, well if i remember well, some repub pastors were praying for a storm to disturb the democratic convention which broke viewership records. God doesn't like ugly
i thought repubs had the Most High their pocket, maybe God is exposing the hypocrisy of some of this churches.

Illinois gets the worst seat because they got the best seat at the DNC! If I were from Illinois, I'd feel honored! I NEED TO MOVE FROM OHIO TO ILLINOIS!

I'm glad they are using a modest set. It highlights the contrast between the real thing (McCain) and the paper statesman that is Barack Obama.

McCain doesn't need theatrics or distractions. He doesn't need to impress anybody by stagecraft or fancy speeches. He's spent a lifetime fighting for his country, five years in a prison camp, decades as a maverick in Congress holding the banner of reform.

His life story will contrast sharply with that of the man who came out of the Chicago machine, the South Side politician who eats with Bill Ayers and probably other terrorists we don't even know about, who attends church where the preacher says "God damn America!" and everybody jumps to their feet in wild adulation.

Obama promises "change" but what kind of change? Change for the worse. With the selection of Sarah Palin, McCain has once and for all solidified his claim on the mantle of Reform. For Obama the game is over, and his dream will fade.

If he's lucky his State will not judge him so harshly for how he's treated them during his time as a US senator. Elected to represent the people of Illinois, he instead thought it was more important to write another volume of autobiography and run for president.

In two years the people of Illinois will have their say and perhaps it will be "Change."

Of course the RNC is gonna be "bare bones" as you put it, because everyone knows that the RNC is gonna put on a boring, tired, low-energy convention similar to a bowl of cold oatmeal. In other words, more of what you usually see from Repubs, which is NOTHING exciting.

People want something different, they want change and hope for the future however ideological that is, because it inspires people to take stock and do something about their own situations. One man can't do it all, but one man can inspire people to hope and help themselves. Republicans have no change message, the only message they have is to not rub John McCain the wrong way because he was a POW, and while you're at it, you better be careful not to be too dismissive of Sarah Palin's "extreme non-experience" to be VP because you're sounding very sexist right now.

Give me a break.

Obama/Biden in '08!!!

Well, Bush had no credentials besides his father... McCain has no credentials besides his POW story (one shared by my own father).... and since it's corporate oil that really runs things behind the facade, they are going for votes from the most ignorant and narrow minded views in America.... charisma counts on this front... they don't get the importance of the times we are in.... Did you see Palin and McCain gleefully discussing how much better they will handle the human suffering of a hurricane...yes, they are cheery about it! Called campaign talking bonuses, I think.

Big oil loves this gal (though she claims they hate her), she is about drilling oil, right? Against polar bears for tapping into the arctic zones (scary denial of global warming too)... the story isn't going to fool anybody, but their kind.

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are both scheduled to speak on the first day of the convention, but they're both so unpopular with the American public that their participation poses a major dilemma for the McCain campai...

WAIT! This just in! Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on the Gulf Coast, so the McCain campaign has decided to cancel the first day of the convention. News at eleven.

I KNOW YOU GUYS DON'T LIKE OBAMA!
BUT DON'T YOU GUYS LIKE LINCOLN?
A SLAP IN THE FACE!
FOX NEWS PROBABLY GOT THE ILLINOIS SEATS!
SEAN HANNITY LOOKED REALLY SCARED LAST WEEK!
WHY WOULD REPUBLICAN'S COME TO THE DEMOCRATIC
CONVENTION?

Obama's friends: Wright GD America, Ayers unrepentant terrorist, Pfleger heretic priest, Daley plant somemore distraction flowers, Stroger my daddy gave me this position, Emil Jones I need a raise,Frank Davis known Communist,Durbin Nazis, Pol Pot or a Gulag, Father a Marxist, Rezcko I'll buy the land you buy the house.
Michelle knows Wright's sermons by heart, mean America, America lost it's soul, at 44 first time she is proud of America that gave her an affirmative action Ivy League education.
The only remarkable thing he did while in the state legislature was to speak out against a bill that would have required medical treatment for babies who are born alive from an induced-labor abortion.
Obama's votes put him as the most leftwing senator in the U.S. Senate according to The Nation magazine. He has stood for abortion with no restrictions, partial birth abortion, live birth abortion, and Obama is alright with killing his grandchildren (he wouldn't want his daughter punished with a baby). He is okay with killing the disabled (he regretted his vote allowing Terrie Schaivo's Mother and Dad to appeal Judge Greer's death sentence by dehydration and starvation that she received)He has spent almost three years preparing to campaign and campaigning for the President of the U.S. He has spent about 170 days in the Senate and has taken the taxpayer's money and not performed his duties. Obama doesn't agree with our Declaration of Independence that states we get our right to LIFE from our creator, not judges or legislatures.
Obama doesn't know the difference between killing the public and serving the public. He doesn't deserve to be elected dogcatcher.

BARACK OBAMA IS GOING TO BE PRESIDENT!
IT WON'T TAKE HIM 8 YEARS TO HELP DISASTER
VICTIMS!
STOP CRYING ABOUT THE CONVENTION LAST WEEK, YOU
KNOW YOU ENJOYED IT!
YOU KNOW WHO THE BETTER CANDIDATE IS?
MCCAIN'S WIFE CAN BUY HIM ANOTHER HOUSE BUT SHE
CAN'T BUY HIM THIS ELECTION!
PRAYING FOR THE GULF COAST!
THE GOP DODGED A BULLET LAST NIGHT, CHENEY AND
BUSH DIDN'T SPEAK!
