Michelle Obama looking forward to Hawaii vacation

CHICAGO--Michelle Obama said yes Monday she is looking forward to a family vacation in Hawaii when she had a few words with reporters after her speech at an Obama funder raiser targeted to women. Credit the Honolulu Star Bulletin for its July scoop that presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will visit Hawaii next month. In my July 21 blog post on this Hawaii homecoming, I note that this swing will be part of a "bio tour" in the run up to the Denver convention.

I think a family vacation is warranted at this time, to get away and relax from the political arena. Michelle and the kids have had a grueling past year, with Barack clenching his position in the Democratic Party, changing Chuches (which is a process in itself) and the general all out attack of he and his family (which is simple and purely a color issue as usual in America). I hope they're allowed to actually have a vacation without rude and ignorant reporters following them around.

This is good. They need a break. Would look better as a working vacation, so am glad Lynn pointed that out.
I do think before they go they should name Hillary as veep.
I really do.
Obama supporter here who thinks this does more HARM in getting the white women vote (yes, we are all just a bunch of demographics, folks) for Obama.
I think if just reminds people of the thrashing Hillary took and it's not gonna help.
Obama shoulda gotten a much bigger bump outta all that effort, while McCain was meeting with 50 people here, 50 people there, with a big media event (even if they 'failed' he got press and ribbing from comedy central--just get my name right, Mr. Barnum said).
- Without Hillary on the ticket, it will be a SQUEEKER and the repugs know how to steal the vote better than we know how to keep them from stealing it.

Don't trash reporters, Terri, they've been VERY NICE to Obama thus far and we wanna keep it that way to WIN in the Fall.
I am hoping we get this thing under way. Right now it's just too close and I'm not certain a vacation vacation is needed--working vacation, yes. Vacation vacation looks bad.
Plus Obama needs to GO AFTER McCain because he's swiftboating him about the medical visit overseas and it's crap and needs to be addressed aggressively NOW NOW NOW!
Learn from Hillary--she went left and nearly kicked Obama's butt (and I'm not so sure she didn't--oh lighten up, I'm a former Obama former Edwards former Hillary back to Obama person). Obama went right and now he's really in a fight with mcSame!
Remember--we're way more left than the media tells us.

AMEN TO THAT!
THE OBAMA FAMILY DESERVE A VACATION!
THEY HAVE RUN A GREAT CAMPAIGN!
THEY HAVE BEEN HONEST AND RESPECTFUL TO EVERYONE!
CONGRATS ON WINNING THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION!
CONGRATS ON THE SUCCESSFUL TOUR ABROAD!
DON'T FORGET TO BRING ME A T-SHIRT BACK!
I'LL KEEP FIGHTING THE WOLVES UNTIL YOUR RETURN!

Im sure the Obama family is really looking forward to a vacation. Thier lives have become very eventful since the primaries and on. It must be very stressful, not just to Barack and his wife, but also to the kid(s). (I'm am not sure of the number of children they have :P)

I resent the fact that people of color think that I do not like Obama because he is black. I do not care if he is purple, he has done almost nothing as a civil rights worker, lawyer, or Senator. Why does it always have to boil down as a race issue if one person is of color? Every election lost by the Dems is a stolen election, even if its a vast majority. We cannot AFFORD a large number of new costly programs without the money to pay for them. What will you stop????

I agree with Lea 100 percent. People have the right to vote for whoever they want. This is a very big election because America is at a crossroads. If elected, Obama will not bring this country closer together. I also hope that if he is elected that he gets the same treatment that George Bush has received.

I am with you Paul!

It would be nice if the vacation weren't somewhere pricey and exotic like Hawaii. If it's a "back-to-home tour," then why not Kansas? Few working class Democrats (the ones Obama needs to win but whom he has given the back of the hand to most of this year) can afford a family trip to Hawaii to frolic in the surf. All this just reinforces the image of a family with a wife with rich elitist tastes and rather spoiled kids.
