The scoop from Washington

Patti Solis Doyle--former Clinton campaign manager--joins Obama team as VP chief of staff. Shakeup in Michelle Obama staff.

WASHINGTON--Patti Solis Doyle, former Clinton campaign manager, jettisoned in the final months of the primary, joins the Obama team as the chief of staff to Obama's eventual runningmate. Former top Edwards campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon--who ran Iowa for Edwards-- is the Obama battleground states director. Shakeup in Michelle Obama staff--Stephanie Cutter--top Democratic advisor who comes out of the Ted Kennedy operation---is now senior advisor to the campaign and chief of staff to Michelle Obama. Cutter was also the Kerry campaign communications director. Veteran Obama Senate office top staffer Michael Strautmanis moves over to the campaign full time as a senior advisor.

The female picks help add some gender balance to a male-dominated top Obama staff.

FOOTNOTES: Don't read into the Solis Doyle appointment as a sign that former rival Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is moving up on the vice presidential short list. Rather, the opposite is probably more realistic. Solis Doyle now is the highest ranking Hispanic on the Obama campaign. She helps build a bridge to Clinton women to join the Obama camp.

Solis Doyle, the sister of Chicago alderman Danny Solis--has long known chief Obama strategist David Axelrod.

Obama Campaign Fills Out Key Posts for the General Election

New hires and current staff members assume leadership roles for next phase of the campaign

CHICAGO, IL—The Obama campaign took a major step today in readying for the general election fight, announcing fifteen new members of the campaign’s leadership team. The staff members—a combination of new hires and current staff assuming new roles will help broaden and deepen the reach of this campaign for change—from field organizing to constituency outreach to voter registration.

“From the beginning, we’ve asked the American people to stand up and take ownership of this campaign—and it’s because of their overwhelmingly positive response that 16 months later we’re poised to make history together,” campaign manager David Plouffe said. “Today we’re adding to our leadership team so that we reach even more Americans who share the belief that people who love their country can change it. These staff members bring a wealth of organizing experience to their new role, and they’ll provide key insight and direction as we continue to build our coalition.”

New roles announced today:

Constituency Director: Brian Bond – formerly LGBT Outreach Director at the DNC

National Field Director: Jon Carson – formerly Obama for America Voter Contact Director

Senior Advisor to the Campaign and Chief of Staff to Michelle Obama: Stephanie Cutter

Industrial States Regional Director: Paul Diogardi – formerly Political Director for the Democratic Governor’s Association.

Battleground States Director: Jen O’Malley Dillon – formerly Iowa State Director for John Edwards for President

Chief of Staff to the Vice Presidential Nominee: Patti Solis Doyle

Latino Vote Director: Temo Figueroa – formerly Obama for America National Field Director

First Americans Vote Director: Wizipan Garriott

Northeast Regtional Director: Eureka Gilkey – formerly Obama for America Deputy Political Director

50-State Voter Registration Director: Jason Green – formerly Obama for America political and field staff

Campaign Chief of Staff: Jim Messina – formerly Chief of Staff to Senator Max Baucus

LGBT Vote Director: Dave Noble – formerly of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

West Regional Director: Matt Rodriguez –.formerly Obama for America New Hampshire State Director

Senior Advisor: Michael Strautmanis

African American Vote Director: Rick Wade

I see an African American Vote Director, a Latino Vote Director, a First Americans Vote Director, and a LGBT Vote Director, to name a few. However, I notice that there is no director specifically targeted toward the women voters. R-E-S-P-E-C-T as Aretha always said or lack thereof. Although we make up 51 percent of voters we do not get any R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I guess it is assumed we will all fall in line.

Obama will use anyone to get votes and that is what he is doing with Patti....Putting Clinton on the ticket would not make Obama qualified to be president.I don't trust Obama, I trust McCain.

Trust is a relative feeling,if one is trustworhy, he or she is capable of trust. So when you speak of not trusting others you really reveal yourself! And your own motive of operation in life.

Shouting Phil--given your NASTY comments about Hillary Clinton and her supporters--your 'welcome' counts for--not so much. Wasn't Solis Doyle kicked off the Hillary campaign? How does this 'welcome' Hillary supporters who were maligned nearly as much as she was?
Please stop Phil--you're going to hurt our chances in the Fall. Go down and pass out pamphlets or something.

Can Obama look any more ridiculous than he does now? He can't say anything good about Bill Clinton's administration but brags about hiring all these people that worked in the Clinton Administration. His supporters don't want to help Hillary with her campaign debt but even before her "political body" is cold, his people are demanding that her finance people start raising money for him (See Howard Fineman/Newsweek). His campaign discovers that Clinton has 2 people associated with Country Wide Mortgage working for her campaign and criticizes her but since "they didn't vet the vetter", he had no idea his campaign has someone that got a "sweetheart deal" with Country Wide heading up his VP search. Now he is hiring Clinto's former campaign manager. Is Doyle being rewarded for doing such a poor job running Hillary's campaign, especially in IA?

I don't like the smell of this at all at all! If Obama is going to disrespect Senator Hillary Clinton he won't get the votes of her supporters.

Appointing Solis Doyle is a really dumb move....
