The scoop from Washington

Gov. Blagojevich on fund-raising sprint as William Daley eyes running for governor of Illinois. List of possible contenders.

Gov. Blagojevich has a major fund-raiser in Chicago on Thursday, in a big fund-raising week done with no transparency. On Monday, Blagojevich headlined a fund-raiser at the Hyatt on Wacker aimed at female donors. Labor leader Margaret Blackshere was the m.c.

This comes as colleague Fran Spielman reported Wednesday on the interest William Daley--mayoral brother, former Commerce Secretary, Obama advisor, banker-- has in running for governor. (Hat tip Richard Miller for scoop). Daley mulled a run in 2002, working with David Axelrod, now Obama's chief strategist. Hard to imagine Daley running for governor without Axelrod. I've heard that Daley has been chatting with people about a possible run.

Here's my list of Democrats assessing a 2010 run for governor of Illinois whether or not the scandalized Blagojevich seeks a third term.

William Daley
Alexi Giannoulias, state treasurer
Dan Hynes, state comptroller
Pat Quinn, lt governor
Lisa Madigan, attorney general
Paul Vallas, former Chicago, Philadelphia schools chief who ran in 2002 primary.
