The scoop from Washington

Pfleger warned about pulpit politics. Pfleger stepped down from "Catholics for Obama."

WASHINGTON -- The Rev. Michael Pfleger mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ -- earning him a reprimand Thursday from Sen. Barack Obama as his comments threaten to resurrect the politically radioactive Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a campaign issue.

Pfleger, the outspoken activist pastor of St. Sabina in Auburn-Gresham, spoke at Trinity last Sunday night, and his videotaped comments about Clinton started to ricochet around the Internet. Introduced by Wright's successor, the Rev. Otis Moss III, Pfleger starts talking of the need to expose ''white entitlement and supremacy wherever it raises its head" in the the clip on YouTube.

Pfleger continues, referring to Clinton's tearing up just before the New Hampshire primary -- which may have helped her win.

''Rev. Moss, when Hillary was crying, and people said that was put on, I really don't believe it was put on,'' Pfleger says from the pulpit. ''I really believe that she just always thought, 'This is mine! I'm Bill's wife, I'm white, and this is mine! I just gotta get up and step into the plate.' And then out of nowhere came, 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama,' and she said, 'Oh, damn! Where did you come from? I'm white! I'm entitled! There's a black man stealing my show!' ''

Pfleger then pretended to wipe tears from his eyes. "She wasn't the only one crying, there was a whole lot of white people crying.''

As he wrapped up, Pfleger must have sensed he went too far. ''Sorry . . . don't want to get you into any more trouble,'' he said, a reference to the controversial Wright, whom Obama cut ties with April 30, following what he called Wright's ''rants'' during a press conference at the National Press Club here. Moss, back on the pulpit, said, "We thank God for the message and we thank God for the messenger."

Republicans have already started hitting Obama over Wright, and by Thursday had seized on Pfleger's comments.

Obama, in a statement, said, ''As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that unites us. That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause.''

Pfleger, a passionate advocate for the down-and-out, immediately issued an apology: ''I regret the words I chose on Sunday. These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them.''

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said Pfleger stepped down from a ''Catholics for Obama'' committee a few weeks ago, but would not say why.

The Clinton campaign at first had no comment, then Thursday evening said Obama did not go far enough in distancing himself from Pfleger. "Divisive and hateful language like that is totally counterproductive in our efforts to bring our party together and have no place at the pulpit or in our politics," said a statement issued by Clinton spokesman Phil Singer. "We are disappointed that Senator Obama didn't specifically reject Father Pfleger's despicable comments about Senator Clinton, and assume he will do so."

Chicago Sun-Times religion reporter Mike Thomas asked Cardinal Francis George's office for a reaction, and his spokeswoman, Colleen Dolan said, ''The cardinal has made it clear to Father Pfleger in the past on more than one occasion that it's inappropriate to speak about political issues from the pulpit and that his own personal opinions are his own personal opinions.''

The campaign of presumptive GOP nominee Sen. John McCain declined comment.

Pfleger is a longtime Obama friend and was in the audience at the National Press Club for that Wright press conference, and when we talked afterward, he realized Wright created a problem for Obama.

I was told Pfleger's comments stunned some in the Obama camp because they expected him to be more politically savvy -- and not take on Clinton, especially at Trinity, of all places.

I can't believe this guy is this stupid. If he's an Obama friend, why on earth would he do this? Obama isn't even campaigning against Hillary anymore and this clown puts her back on the front page--and does it at Trinity for goodness sake! Obama is doing everything he can to reach out to Hillary supporters. This doesn't help!

With friends like these, Obama doesn't need any enemies.

Father Pfleger used humor to speak the truth.

If every candidate had to answer for every person that supports him like Obama does they would seem like Bill Murray in Ground hog Day. Each time you reach in to stop one another would pop up. You cannot censure everyone and you shouldn't have to. Those words are their words.

Enough of this man Pfleger, I say man because he does not represent what a priest should be. He has his own agenda and should just declare his candidacy for what ever office he wants to hold.
His time would be better spent serving the victims of sexual abuse than trying to be a political beacon for his causes which are many. Here is a man who loves to hear himself speak. He has no humility, he is all about his agenda. The Cardinal should tell him to shut up and serve all people of the diocese.

More votes lost by Obama.Women will not tolerate this double
standard. What kind of church applaudes this mans mean, hateful words. Racism,Hillary hateing.i will not vote for Obama.

Thank you Pfleger and Wright, with your help, you are fueling the fire to make sure that Obama will not be President.

Anyone in there right mind will understand that Obama and his camp are nothing but racists themselves, especially Michelle Obama. Didn't she talk about entitlement on a campaign platform and how her black husband was entitled to be the Democratic nominee.

Anyone that will not salute the US flag is not fit to be the President of this country.

The Pragmatism of American Dynamism

Everyday comes with its own challenges and opportunity and it suffices to know that the American people my family and me have come to love and adore is completely and totally different from the stereotypes and hypes that the mainstream media have been orchestrating and dogmatically propagating to the detriment of the country.

Yes indeed, it is true race is a issue among the too numerous to count features the man uses to discriminate between being black and or white, rich or poor, educated or illiterate, brilliant or dull, nevertheless in my opinion the American people have not been treated fairly at all in comparison to other nations and their people where multi-complexity abound and yet they are living together and managing lives the best possible way they can.

The reality though is not far fetched; beginning with the Iowan choice of Sen. Obama and the subsequent winning streaks the American people have made possible for the later to achieve in the face of fierce opposition from one of the most articulate and organized political machinery within the Democratic Party bears conspicuous testimony to their generous hearts and willingness to prove to the entire world that contrary to the information being circulated about them, they are in fact more desirous of unity and patriotism than the media have credited.

It is therefore without doubt that once more the American people have pragmatically and realistically denounce, reject and rebuff the nefarious and divisible propaganda of the organs of information disseminations by displaying their ability to tolerate a minority candidate and also show their desire to also consider the aspiration of having a lady president. Times are changing and it is of outmost urgency that the stereotypes labeling the American people as intolerant of one another should now be a thing of the immediate past in order to move forward as a truly united country.

As have being articulately and honest spoken by Sen. Obama, the soldiers who fight for this country consider themselves as belonging to one America and fighting for the country they love, rather than discriminate among themselves as to who is white or black. Consequently the time is due for the media and the other Americans that are adequately placed in the position of influencing the people to help propagate the reality of how the majority of Americans are embracing unity in diversity as the new era dogma in the quest for continual sustenance and corporate existence of the great country.

I am therefore challenging the media, the Clinton’s and their supporters and some of us who may be voting for Obama on the basis of race to please reconsider our stand on this myopic argument and sentimentality and change for the sake of this country and posterity.

We have the sacred responsibility of voting for the candidate of our choice because of the convictions that that person is the best position to move the country forward, and in the direction of progression, socio-economic uplifting and the reclamation of America’s authority in world affairs and above all the transformation and transitioning of this great country to the abode of haven for humanity. In this regard, I am confident majority of Americans are ready to move in this unique direction except for the detrimental, dogmatic and archaic propaganda by the syndicated media and pessimists that are never ready to see anything good in the country and its people desiring to become truly united irrespective of the abundance of diverse culture, ethnicity and race.

America in my opinion epitomizes the human body and the head cannot tell the hand I do not need you nor will the leg say to the eyes I do not nee you, thereby confirming the exact attitude the contemporary Americans are saying, together as a united body we can move mountain and reach the promise land where Obama can be the president and any other Americans too can aspire to the highest position in the land and garner the support of all.

Please, we cannot afford to fail the next generation and neither will the world be the same again if Americans prove beyond doubt that yes, like the human body everybody matters and they are ready to accept the sacred responsibility to move the entire human race in the direction of love, peace, harmony, neighborliness, hope and change for the best.

God bless Obama
God bless USA

I have been a registered Democrat all my adult life. I recently changed my registration to independent, largely due to the actions of the DNC and the tactics of the Obama campaign, its surrogates and its supporters. I am a strong HRC supporter, and I've been deliberating whether to vote for Obama, if he is the Democratic nominee. This pulpit incident is the tipping point for me.

I have today decided that I will not vote for Obama if he is the nominee. I will simply not cast a vote for the presidency. I can't vote for Obama without feeling like I am endorsing racism. Adding HRC to the ticket will not make a difference.

This is a sad day for me.

Rev. Michael Pfleger has said the truth that many refuse to hear.
But Sen Obama cannot be held responsible for another person's comment. It is never a lie that Sen. Clinton believed she had won for the mere fact of being Bill's wife.
Whether she is white or he is black is inconsequential. The better person gets the nomination. And in this case, it's Sen. Obama.

OH PLEASE! Are you serious?!?!? Next Obama will have to apologize for what people say at the candy store his kids go to. Give me a break. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and comments, why is Obama forced to apologize for what those outside his campaign say?

And I was in the service that is reffered to above. That comment took up about 1 min of a 40 minute sermon that was focused on love for your fellow man (regardless of race) and calling notice to a "double-sided" America that expects people to do as they say and not as they do. Having actually heard the WHOLE message I agree with Father Pfleger and admire men like him and Rev. Wright who have the guts to say and acknowledge what others either don't, won't, or can't. Read the Bible it's full of prophets who did the same and were chastised by the public just as they are now.

Then Hillary's camp has the nerve to make a comment with their lack-luster, un-apologetic response for her "assination" comment.... And gets away with it. This whole elction is getting rediculous, I feel like I'm in high school at the lunch table.

This is not a simple matter of 'answering for anyone who supports him', as one post stated. Pfleger, as with Wright, are close to Obama. He's known him since he was young. These are not just people who come from the curtains to endorse, as is the case with McCain's side. In all those cases, from both sides of the aisle, the comments are dispicable. However, McCain hasn't associated with the preachers on the right most of his life or sat in their pews for 20 years with his family & children. Obama cannot say the same. It IS about association, not just the endorsements.

The presidential election is not a sporting event, and it is time Obama supporters stopped making empty excuses for "the team" and displayed the adult common sense required in the selection of someone who will command and lead the most powerful military and nation on earth. Obama has surrounded himself with friends and advisors who are radical racists. As the New York Times asked: What if Obama was "white" and surrounded himself with Klansmen, Church-bombers and cross-burners? is there anyone who would not find those associations relevant? Yes, it is unfortunate that Obama must go out, once a week, and disassociate himself from yet another supporter, but the fact is that he would not have the problem if he had not entertained these relationships inthe first place. As they say; "When you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas." Obama can sugar-coat his inherent racism all he wants, but when he claims to be a moderate he is no more credible than David Duke. If Obama doubts it, he can ask his Grandmother or, as Obama called her in his speech "a typical white woman."

I second the comments of Tina E. The problem is not that Pfleger and Wright "support" Obama -- it's that Obama supports them, by not only donating his own money to help support their hateful missions, but also by expending taxpayer dollars in support of them!

Obama got a quarter of a million taxpayer dollars earmarked to Pfleger's programs over the years. That's my money, as an Illinois taxpayer, and I can't begin to tell you how much that disturbs me.

All of you people who make excuses for Obama's entanglement with these lunatics are smoking crack and you'd better get off it before November because you're going to have a rude awakening otherwise.

what I wonder about is why the parishioners don't recognize the immoral behavior .. why are they jumping up and down clapping?

Obama has been in this church for more than 20 years.

It was hard to swallow his defense of Rev Wright--Obama just went along with a "crazy old uncle"...that's not leadership, but Obama pointed out racial anger that does exist. Fine.

But Pfleger doesn't have that excuse. From the pulpit he slanders, denigrates, and mocks a presidential candidate. How revolting.

Are these true Christian values? Are these Obama's real values? Division, ridicule for others, contempt for your opponent?

Didn't Obama earmark $100,000 in Pfleger's direction?

I can't wait to see the adds the GOP will run against Obama this fall. This should be one of the most interesting elections in a long time. Democrats will score big in the House and Senate, but their presidental canidate will go down harder than McGovern.

This is the sort of shite that will cause Obama to loose to John McCain. I live in Texas and Obama is seen more and more as a black supremicist. It is clear that his church does not like white people. They are hateful as hell.

The fact that everyone in the congregation was hooping and hollering tells us that big trouble is ahead.

It has reached a point where if you disagree with Obama on any subject, you are called a racist. This shite don't fly in middle America

Why dobn't these so-called pastors preach God's word instead of preaching about their politics. They are not pastors but just want attention

Hillary was not the only one mocked by Rev. Pfleger.

I am certain the clergyman does not use the same phraseology or speech style in his normal life. He was absolutely giving his interpretation of how pastors in the Black churches behave. In other words, he was mocking them and their congregation to their faces!

And once they had heard the comment "Where did that black man come from?" I am amazed they didn't sit silently, put an elbow in the ribs of the person next to them and say "Where did this white guy who is trying to be a black guy come from?"

If someone makes fun of me, I am not going to applaud him regardless of how much I like his message.

The folks at Trinity UCC are caught up in a "time warp' that leaves their America stuck some time around 1960. The "fellowship" with Louis Farrakhan and his clan seem to back up this idea, as much of Islam is stuck in the 6th century, making Trinity look like positively modern.

Radicals like Father Pfleger and Ayers must find the 60's atmosphere at Trinity like reliving the glory days of the "Summer of Love." I bet if they could unearth the bones of LBJ it would make the day complete.

Meanwhile, Obama finally catches up on the developments of the last 45 years and gleans the idea, that has been obvious to those of us that actually lived during the past 45 years, that there has been "Hope" and "Change" that seems to have gone unreported in his universe.

Which brings us back to .. where does this leave his notion of "Change" or "Hope" ?
Is it "so yesterday" ?

I am a socially liberal, white supporter of Obama. I had a very unfavorable impression of the spectacle that I saw from the pulpit. The priest was giving a purely political rant with no reference to biblical teaching or a moral framework in which the listener was to evaluate the message. It was totally lacking in spiritual content. He met approval from the audience and from the man who first introduced him who I assume is the church pastor. I have no problem with the message were it not on a pulpit. The behavior was the antithesis of spiritual.

Mr Obama has a message that was contradicted by the priest and that is that part of his message was motivated by his love of Christ. I am not a Christian but I know that if G/D's name was mentioned by the priest in that setting it would have been a desecration.

I am very sympathetic to Obama but I think that Trinity Church is not an environment in which to raise his children if this is what sermons are about in that church. If they want to preach political material in a sermon then it must be brought in the context of biblical or theological teachings. Under no circumstances was the derision I saw appropriate, as part of a religious service. The church pastor should not have been so gracious when the priest stepped down.

I think it is time for Obama's family to move on or at the very least to get the political spectacle out of the chapel. I resent tax dollars supporting what I witnessed.

What kind of church is Trinity??? I have gone to church my entire life, and been a Chrostion for over 30 years, and have NEVER heard such garbage as Wright and Pfleger spiut. I am a Black man, and have been to hundreds of predominately Blcak congregations. Those apostates do not represent the overwhelming majority of Christians, Black or White. I cannot imagine the Lord Jesus Christ or any of His apostles preaching such hateful, ungodly, so-called "sermons". I wonder how many of those yelling and shouting people in that church really have a relationship with the real Jesus Christ? They are a mockery of Christianity. If what Pfleger said is so "true", then why did he apologize? He is s false shepherd, and the members of Trinity are the duped followers of his ilk.

Any thought I had of voting for Obama are now demolished. When will the next tape surface? Picking friends like Wright and Pfleger shows a serious lack of discernment. If Obama had ANY sense he would tender a letter of resignation to the pastor of Trinity and join a more racially inclusive congregation.Obama is totally unqualified to be my President....

IF your priest where you have gone to church has been found to be a child molester, does that priest represent you because you have been listening to him all your life? Should you be considered a child molester too since you been listening to him all your life? So why should this priest who has his own political opinion be associated or even what Obama represents? Obama did not agree to what the priest said. The people who are democrats who will not vote for Obama because need to really think.

Were people there to worship God or Obama? I'd be upset to get up on a Sunday morning, get dressed up, get the kids ready, get down there and find a political rally when I could have stayed in bed for a few more hours.

We have five more months to go and you know more will come out.

More hate speech coming from the black. Where is the black community condemning this racial hatred rhetoric?
The church is supposed to walk, talk and do as Jesus did. You black preachers need to go back and read your bible. No wonder this world is going to hell in a hand basket. Muslim terrorists and Back Preachers hating white america. Whats the difference? evil is as evil does.

I'm sorry, to those saying Obama shouldn't be held to account for the actions of others.... these are not just random folks. These are people Obama has endorsed by his membership and financial support. In my opinion, this event removes any and all doubt that this particular church is racist in its values. Period.

I have said in the past that I believe Obama when he claims to not share the views of these hateful folks, a position I'm finding it harder and harder to accept, but these associations do speak directly to the kind of evil he is willing to tolerate. We know he will tolerate this kind of evil, at least until it becomes politically expedient to distance himself from it. As a result, I’m curious about what other evil he is willing to tolerate.

For all the people who post comments like "but it's true", "he's just speaking the truth", ask yourself this:

What if a preacher at a white church spewed off in a shrill tone about how blacks have kids out of wedlock 70 percent of the time. Blacks commit violent crimes at a higher rate than other races. Blacks sold their own people into slavery. Blah, blah, blah. "But its true!"

Doesn't make it right. It's called demagoguery.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Pfleger, or Wright for that matter, think this kind of message helps or empowers their audience.

What does his comments have to do with solving the problems we face in this Country?

For people to say that they will not vote for Obama because of this priest comments are saying that they really don't care about the people who needs Obama's solutions to these problems.

If you care about people who need affordable healthcare, housing help, tax breaks, kids home from Iraq, then who cares about the comments of the knucklehead!!

If you agree that Fr.Pfleger should no longer represent the Catholic Church then send an email to the Pope .

Wow, for you people that say it doesn't matter who BHO associates with---that is pretty scary... Let's see, he's successfully aligned himself over the years with a black racist, a white racist, an anti-semite and a domestic terrorist... Man I can't wait to see who else comes out "to support" BHO.... LMAO!!! It's good to see this phony squirm for a change!!! Hopefully, Michelle doesn't think America is to MEAN and NASTY because their asking the "second coming" some real tough questions!!!

The reason this is a bigger issue than just some other person is because people that go to church have their world view shaped by the place. At my church we are taught that all people came from Adam and Eve, therefore all of us are of the same blood, and the word race should never even be used, unless in context to the human race.

If this church Obama attended for so many years has always preached things about anyone deserving anything specifically because of their race, then that is racist, and it is seems perfectly reasonable to question Obama since people who go to church often go there to learn and have their world view shaped by it.

You don't have to be white to be racist. Those who don't vote for Obama strictly because he is black and they're white are probably racist, but the same thing goes for those who strictly vote for Obama because he is black and they are black too.

The reason this is such a big deal is because for a while Obama wanted to not be seen as a Muslim and wanted to not seem anti-religious so he stressed how he had been going to a Christian church for so long and how it influenced him. Now when it turns out that church teaches some controversial things it is biting him in the butt. All in all though I doubt he really cares that much about what they teach but used it as a political strategy that is hurting him now.

Obama thinks you're stupid. He wants you to believe that he has been with this church for 20 years - that's two decades - and never saw anything like this. He wants you to believe that this type of stuff only happens when he's not there, as if the preachers check with Obama first to see if he's coming. If he's not, then they let it rip. If he is, then the sermon is about salvation and other such uncontroversial things. Sound implausible? Of course it does. Which means that Obama knows what's going on and is telling you that he doesn't. That's called lying

Here's something else for you to consider. Obama broke ties with Wright, denouncing him and trashing Wright's legacy. The response of the black church was to rally around Wright. Pfleger had Wright speak at his church right after Obama denounced him. Yet all those who defended Wright while Obama denounced him are still supporting Obama. How come? Their deep convictions about white entitlement and white supremacy - convictions that provoke them to grand expressions of righteous anger - does not extend to the black man who denies that racism is much of a problem? Why aren't they condemning Obama right along with the white folks for the sake of whom Obama denounced the reverend? Do they believe that Obama is saying what he is saying not because he really doesn't reject it, but because Obama knows that he has to say he rejects it to get elected. This is what Jeremiah Wright said about Obama's motive. So if the black Chicago community believes that Obama is lying about his true beliefs to get elected, then what do Obama's supporters believe? What are those of us who don't support Obama supposed to believe? He's lying to somebody. Is it them? Or is it us?

Yet McCain is getting away with the pastor who endorsed him after McCain begged him to, who said that the Catholic Church is the Great Whore and the Pope is the antichrist.

Where's the outrage of something that's real?

It's not PC in America to mention that blacks have and still do have a harder time than whites. Yet Hillary says that sexism is real, and racism is not! As a white woman, I say that's a big fat lie, and she is the one dividing us by saying racism no longer exists.

As if her husband didn't collaborate with the far right to put so many more prisoners in prison that America now has far more prisoners than any country in the world, both in actual numbers and per capita.

Do you feel good that America has more people in prison than Iran or Communist china or Uzbekistan? Are you happy that we are now spending more on the "justice" system than on education? Thank Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary! Where was she when this happened? Obviously she didn't object.

One of the worst perpetrators of sexism is men who repeatedly have affairs with women who aren't their wives. Worse if they have them in the same house where his wife lives with him. One of the other worst sins is enabling such a man by staying with him. Like Hillary has done: she's enabled sexism by standing by him as he had endless bimbo eruptions, including in their own home. And then she tells US that sexism is what's keeping her from "winning"? She should look in the mirror.

Stop the hate, Jesus Christ was all about LOVE.
I have experienced Church Worship and preaching for 62 years in 16 COUNTIRES IN THE WORLD. 36 years of Black Church experience, i have never HEARD SUCH HATE. This is not representing GOD/ JESUS/ or even seem to make any sense. This is like 'JIM JONES' and a type of MIND CONTROL. HOW CAN ANYONE SIT UNDER THIS TYPE OF DOCTRINE, AND MAINTAIN A SANE MIND. We all eat the same food, drink water, breathe air, have red blood in our viens. 1 John 4:7-8 ( Holy Bible word of God) teaches us to LOVE.
DONT YOU THINK THERE IS ENOUGH HATE IN THE WORLD ALREADY?
ON 911 THE ENEMY DID NOT CARE WHAT CREED, COLOR, SEX, OR ANY OTHER STATION IN LIFE, THEY JUST SLAUGHTERED INNOCENT PEOPLE.
Stop the madness NOW. Look around and help some person in NEED.
Some person in AMERICA IS WITHOUT FOOD, SHELTER, AND BASIC NEEDS, SOME CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTERS. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO MAY BE NEXT.
STOP THE MADNESS.
GOD IS LOVE/ LIGHT/ JOY/ PEACE/ AND NO HATE.
RETIRED RN NURSE.

I want to believe that people truly want to be united...then I read these posts and realize people just want to be right. In my mind this type of dialogue does more harm to this country than any single politician ever could. I am so fed up with the self-righteous indignation from all sides of this debate. It is so hard to remain idealistic in times like these when it is becoming increasingly clear that people WANT to fight. None of you can claim that you truly KNOW the intentions or the character of any of these people; and who among you can say that you've never reacted emotionally and said something regretable. If we all spent as much time examining our own character and integrity, as we do others, we might be able to move forward in this country.

That does happen all the time. The Republican party says it endlessly. But they don't get called on it. HIllary is doing it now: she's saying that there is no such thing as white racism, but there is reverse racism: a very rightwing view.

"I can't for the life of me figure out how Pfleger, or Wright for that matter, think this kind of message helps or empowers their audience."

We are told it was "evil" to pick on Imus for saying "Nappy Headed Ho's" - he was fired for awhile but now he has a new show where he can spew racism.

You can't think why blacks might feel that they have been and continue to be treated as at best 2nd class citizens?

It was Clinton who collaborated with the rightwing to make sure that blacks go to prison 10 times as often as whites for drug crimes that whites and blacks commit at the same rate. Blacks get prison, whites get rehab.

Clinton also went along with the 100/1 sentencing for crack (used more by blacks) and cocaine (the favorite of whies). So not only do we now have more people in prison than any other country ,thanks to Hillary's Bill, almost all the increase comes from possession of drugs by blacks. Despite the fact that whites commit drug crimes at the same rate as blacks. And he also went along with taking away the right to vote from all those who have served their time. Disenfranchising millions of black voters, just like Katherine Harris did for the far right Bush in Florida, but a much larger scale.

What would happen if whites went to prison for their drug crimes as blacks? The so-called "War on Drugs" would be over in a month.

First question, why oh why does have people like these as his spiritual advisers? Seriously, there's something not quite right about his judgment and those he choose to associate himself with. Watching this video clip was like watching a stand up comic hit rock bottom with an unfunny skit. And the crowd, what was so friggin' funny, whooping their arms in the air and all that about? Are you at church or at a comedy club? I don't believe Senator obama shaires these views but at the same time, I find him to be a coward for not walking out of hateful church. Funny, the church I go to find positives out of negatives. When Katrina happened, we never talked about how gays were the reason for it only how we can help those still stranded there. Spewing out more hate and saying white people are entitled does not help the racial divide in this country. If you're going to have a conversation about it, then stop hurling insults. And since when is having a 401K a white entitlement thing? Father Pfleger, you got some serious white-guilt issues you need to work out and don't try to paint us all with one broad stroke. You deal with your own demons sir.

I just want to know, from all the people in the above comments arguing that this is no big deal and doesn't mean anything about Obama: what flavor was Obama kool-aid? Grape? Cherry?

I'm just asking so I can steer clear, because you guys and your glassy eyes are creepy as hell.

I am furious over these racist preachers and their good friend and supporter, Barak Obama. I signed a petition to have Pfleger removed from the priesthood. He does not embody the love of Jesus Christ nor does Jeremiah Wright. Trinity UCC, under Wright, is based on Black Liberation Theology (BLT). BLT teaches that white is the enemy and cause of every bad thing in the universe. Eradication of whites is at the core of BLT. Everyone faults the "evil" Booosh for being intellectually incurious. Obama certainly must beat out Bush in that regard. Had he never looked into BLT? If not, he is the most obtuse Harvard grad on the planet. I just pray that if Obama becomes President of the greatest country on earth, he does not do too much damage. I'd rather see him run out of town on a rail, but obviously his racial hatred is okay with society. I wonder what would happen to McCain if he cavorted with the likes of Ayers, Wright, Pfleger, etc. for more than 20 years? Everyone with two brain cells knows the the answer to that question.

What is it with Obama, associating himself with the radical of the 60 generation? Rev. Wright, this priest, Ayers, ACRON . This what you want from your next President, not me! Obama campaign advisors or also from the Carter adminstration, and he didn't do this nation that much. Some of his advisors are also from the Clinton era, that's why his ideas are so close to Hillary's. Does he or his Campaign have anything of their own. They take other people words for his speeches and others ideas for his policies. Even Scott McClenen stated Obama sound just like George Bush in 2002

Someone above reiterate this statement below:

As the New York Times asked: What if Obama was "white" and surrounded himself with Klansmen, Church-bombers and cross-burners? is there anyone who would not find those associations relevant?

In responding to this statement I believe White people want the rest of Americans and the world to think each white candidate who has held office comes from a Ward Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver), Jim Anderson (Father Knows Best) or Andy Griffith (Mayberry) prototype of male. Guess what? You don't!! More than likely during the previous centuries of white male politicians, they were NOT hanging out with Saints, regularly. That has become apparent, especially if practicing Catholicism, or simply a true review of American History.

I am not going to poke holes at anyone's faith, but don't try to scream, shout, rant then jump up and down with anger because the truth is spoken by another individual, but BLAME IT ON SENATOR OBAMA! He has NOT said any of these divisive statements! HE DID NOT SAY THEM!

And for those who complain about the company he keeps: If I removed myself from all invidivuals who make out-landish, outrageous remarks on a daily basis, I would only have myself to talk to! I don't care if it is in the church, street corner, classroom, office complex, neighborhood bar or walking down the damn street, SOME PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES with HOW America has marginalized specific individuals who are born here.

To various ethnic groups, PLEASE ATTEND a predominatly Black church before becoming apopletic, and NOT knowing the context of how the message(s) is being delivered!! Please, just go! Too many of you are taking snippets of clips and think this is how service is conducted all the time. Doggonit, attend a Black church before you seize it by the neck and strangle it dead! No wonder the comments seem strange, their oxygen is being restricted, now while gasping for air, others want it to be mindful of NOT to say anything that can be miscontrued as offensive, also!....*sheesh*

Like Reverend Wright, Father Pfleger is thoroughly repugnant - a mean spirit. I cannot understand why so many black folks allow themselves to be led by men such as these.

This church is an insane asylum.

How can any African American(indeed whites too) not be insulted by the suggestion that black people and white people have different brains, as suggested by Wright at the National PRess Club? How can people be so oblivious to the fact that Pfleger has been active in keeping big retailers, offering needed jobs, out of the ghetto, while he in turn demands cash handouts and reparations from white America? He adds that white America is collectively guilty - for benefiting from some nebulous sort of 'white privilege' as he calls it.

White America does not benefiting from slavery or racial injustice - No one does. White Americans are working and living their lives just like everyone else - These are the REAL facts. White America is NOT holding black America back. No "Father." This is not true.

These men are real racists - They use poor blacks as mere props, mascots, tattered window dressing for their dark ideological ambitions and bloated egos.

No Christian "brotherly love" or humility can be found here. Pfleger and Wright sew seeds of racial anger and mistrust. They appeal to peoples resentments, rather than their hopes and more noble instincts. They do nothing to unite men as brothers - which is the least one could ask of those who call themselves Christian leaders. Shame on them both.

The people at that church need to stop cheering and start heading for the exits. This is spiritual poison. No God to be found in this place.

I guess someone had to keep the hatred for whites alive in that church with out Wright getting into trouble.

The most horrifying thing about it is, the standing ovation he received for his hatred of Whites and Hillary.

The new rev of TUCC even thank God.

Shows you this is deep seated in Obama's mind, heart and soul for life.

I am so upset that this "priest" is connected to the Catholic Church. I have written to several Bishops and Cardinals on excommunicating him. This is not a Catholic response.
One out of one hundred people have a serious mental illness and he is one of them.
I am a Democrat that would not vote for Obama if i were paid to.
Especially being Catholic and his supporting third trimester abortions...Shame on his "friends" and shame on him for having these "friends".

I voted for Obama, but it was for Senator. I thought his was a bright intelligent man, who with more experience could be an excellant politician. He was, and is not my choice for the Democratic nominee, because of lack of experience. Yes, my choice would be Hillary.
Now however, I am not certain what I will do for the Presidential election. The reason? I am tired of being called a racist or vindictive by the media (with the local cheerleader being Mary Mitchell) and Obama's supporting cast of characters. This process which started with so much promise months ago has been degraded into a devisive and party splitting adventure. Does the Democratic Party really explect my support again when they have done everything possible to make certain this process remains the Men's Club?
Sadly, I am left with 2 choices; vote for McCain or don't vote. I am not certain which way I will go. Hopefully, the Democrates and Obama will wake up to what is happening and really try to win not just me, but all Hillary supporters. Right now an extremely large percentage are jumping ship

I hope Cardinal George suspends or in some other way makes an example of this nut.....this is not what a Catholic Priest should be doing.

The other preacher on the SAME DAY, SAME CHURCH ignored by MSM:

Susan Brooks Thistlewaite:

I preached the first service at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago last Sunday. Rev. Michael Pfleger preached later that day.

I preached a sermon about how a sacred conversation on race has to have Christ at the center.

Father Pfleger, as America now knows, preached a very different message on race, one I greatly resent.

We in the United Church of Christ are trying to have what we call “A Sacred Conversation on Race” and I did not find Pfleger’s sermon to represent what we in the UCC are trying to do in having a sacred conversation.

Instead, Pfleger’s sermon was a bullying rant that was disrespectful of the members of Trinity United Church of Christ, disrespectful of Senator Hillary Clinton and really also disrespectful of Senator Obama and his consistent message of finding common ground.

This political campaign season often seems to me to be a kind of cultural theater, where we are seeing the end of one kind of politics, the politics of polarization (and even the religion of polarization) coming to an end and a new politics and religion of unity trying to break through. I have been reading Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America by Rick Perlstein, and this excellent book describes this historical trajectory we have experienced since 1972.

The idea that you should inflame people’s hatred of one another as a way to mobilize voters has been dominant since 1972 and very powerful. But it has produced near paralysis in Washington and disastrous foreign policy. But hate dies hard and while people want to find unity, they can easily fall back into divisive rhetoric, especially when it is disguised as humor. This is bad at a dinner party; in the pulpit it is shameful and wrong.

As a woman, I was offended by Pfleger’s mocking of Senator Clinton for showing emotion. Women in leadership get this double-whammy all the time; you have to be strong and not show emotion to be seen as a leader and when you don’t show emotion people say you are cold and unfeeling. I had hoped that stereotype of women had died in the 1970’s, but apparently not for Pfleger.

It is clear that Pfleger belongs to the old politics and religion of division. This is not a matter of age, particularly, but of mindset. Apparently the way Pfleger understands race or gender is through conflict and opposition, not through unity, common ground and certainly not as “sacred”. Dr. Dwight Hopkins, a faculty member at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago and member of Trinity UCC offered a similar analysis of Pfleger’s sermon last Sunday. The Catholic priest’s charged remarks reflect an old-school approach. "One of the hallmarks of preaching is the speaker is expected to combine their interpretation of current events with the divinely inspired message from above," he said.

In the sermon I preached last Sunday, I used Paul’s teaching from 1 Corinthians 12 where Paul instructs the Corinthian church that they are one body in Christ and have to overcome their divisions to “put on the mind of Christ.”

That is what the Bible teaches us about a sacred conversation on race, on gender, on any differences. When we are in Christ we have to love our differences and come together as one body. Father Pfleger’s sermon was pulpit bullying of the church and bullying of good people who are trying to run decent campaigns for President. It was anything but sacred and it was certainly not biblical.

The good news is that the politics and religion of division is the past and with a lot of work, the politics and religion of unity and cooperation can be our future.

Can someone in Chicago find an old school bus, load all of Obama's old friends and pastors on it all together, and go for a long, long drive - until, maybe, next December. What in the world is wrong with these folks judgment? Are they secretly jealous of Obama? Are they really intent on destroying his campaign? You may have been laughing on Sunday but you are going to destroy a chance you won't get for a long, long time. Can someone on the South Side confiscate all video cameras and audio recorders - or go home and lock the door and watch TV until the election is over. Good gosh people, what's wrong with you? How stupid can you be?

We have just gone through 7.5 years of a president who has made the wrong choice with judgement of a war and character of people in his administration....Scott McClellan and others. This is truly about Obama's judgement and character. BH Obama stated that he liked this church because of the "Church Family". When I see these people reacting with joy and clapping their hands with the message from Father Pfleger & Rev. Wright......well... this is one church family that I would not be part of because of the hate that has been shown. Where is the love of GOD in this church? Maybe Obama needs to get out of the race and go back to his church and try to save them from being so full of HATE!!!! They have not heard his message of change and hope if they are acting like this! There is NO way that I could vote for this man as president. He will make the same error as Bush with the people he will pick to help him out if he wins this fall. He has such bad judgement from what we have seen thus far! NO TO OBAMA in 2008!!!! Obama you really need to get a new church that teaches the love of God! Stop all this hate in your church NOW!!!!

As we know, Hillary is waiting "just in case" some new disaster befalls Obama. Was she behind this?

Rev. Pfleger racist hatred and fear-mongering was WAY out of line considering his calling as a Catholic priest, and the time and place from which he made those comments about Hillary, Obama and "white entitlement". To truly make a difference regarding Pfleger's continued role in what he purports to be, e-mail his earthly boss, Cardinal Francis George at his e-mail: archbishop@archchicago.org. And pray for him to his Heavenly Boss.

People, we ALL need to speak up when we hear hateful talk coming from the pulpit, the TV or across the table. Don't just sit there. And please, don't just get up and leave. Can you say, "pre-World War II Germany"? Now when you look at some of those old newsreels with Hitler practically foaming at the mouth, working crowds of people into a frenzy, you can understand a little bit how "leaders" can fan flames of discontent and hatred into something dangerous and downright evil and perverse that becomes a cancer in our whole system? Let's root out the sickness before it permeates our whole system. Please, we need to mind our own business. AND THIS IS OUR BUSINESS! SO PLEASE, wake up and drive! Stand up and speak up! Not against one person or group but FOR ALL OF US. This is OUR country, as in ALL OF US. Don't let idiots or fanatics, educated or otherwise, stand and give the impression to others within and outside of our borders that this is what OUR country is about when we all know IT IS NOT. You, sir, do not speak for US. WE SPEAK FOR US. WE STAND TOGETHER FOR US. What say all of you?

Lord have mercy, someone comments that this nut used "humor" to tell the "truth."
1. This guy isn't funny, this kind of race baiting hatred is never funny and if it had been said by someone against Obama you would be rioting in the streets.
Here, let's try it shall we?
Obama is whining and his campaign is constantly usingrace baiting and hate speech as a tactic because he believes he is supposed to be the President, He is supposed to be the first Black President, it should just be given to him, the Chicago Politician rainmakers promised him... and what the hell is this... who is this white woman and why is she trying to take this away from me?
Doesn't she know this is MINE?
IAM the BLACK candidate!
THE black candidate. I represent change... I may not change anything but the color of the Presidency but that is enough. Who is she. She is not change, she's WHITE.
Didn't you hear the Reverand?
She's WHITE!
Didn't you hear the Priest/Father?
She's White. I'm Black. I'm the first black President in History... or I will be as soon as this White bitch gets out of the way.
Of course she is a white supremicist. She wants to take the nomination away from ME, the First BLACK President.

Pretty ridiculous isn't it?

Truth?
sorry NYCvonne.
No truth at all.
Just the astroturfing "shaping of public perception" that Axelrod so successfully perpetrated on the "new Democratic party."
"Clinton as racists." is the new narrative that the Obama campaign created out of distorted, twisted and contorted statements.

and sweetie? The memo's proved that.
Do your homework.

Now call me of racism because I chose to illustrate the absurdity of yours.
Disgutsting.

So, for all of the so-called "appauled" individuals on this thread, how many of you were up in arms and vehemently denouncing Pat Buchannan's little ditty on March 21st? I heard this from Fr. Pfleger, and I can say that my question for you is why would anyone even remotely have any interest in what these preachers/clergy, etc. have to say now? They both have been preaching in this fashion and on the same, if not similar topics for the past 20 years! Don't use instances as this to give validity for your reasons for not voting for Senator Obama! If you have a problem with a person of color being the next President, why don't you be a man/woman and say so? I think that we have an overabundance of cowards on this thread who when confronted with their racist thoughts, invoke the "a lot of my friends are black" garbage.

If you are appauled at the controversial dialogue that Fr. Mike used in the clip, then I hope that you have the same disdain for this:

http://www.buchanan.org/blog/?p=969

Someone said they can't believe this guy is that stupid.
Neither can I.
The article says that he and Obama have been friends for 20 years.
not "just" a pastor.

An Obama spokesman said that this priest/friends stepped down from catholics for Obama a couple of weeks ago.
He didn't say why.

What else? Am I missing anything?
Let's connect the dot'=s shall we?

Who benefits by this trash?
Certainly not Hillary.
Who is damaged by this trash?
Obama? not.
Why not?
Because anyone who is a racist, who would not vote for a black person is already not voting for Obama.
Almost anyone who is already an Obama supporter would not be dissuaded. Most Democrats, whter Clinton supportes or Obama supporters do not want to vote for McCain though their is a contingent who claim they will vote for him if the opponent of their candidate is nominated. (or if Hillary is VP choice.
Perhaps so Republicans or Independents who haven't made up their mind may decide on McCain for this-- and presumably there are people who will be more inclined to vote for Obama as well.

So any negative effect on Obama will be negligible. But the effect on Clinton coul;d be greater.
Why?
Because it brings up again the new carefully crafted Axelrod narrative of the Clinton's/Hillary clinton as racist.
It brings up the moment in NH where she teared up, the Obama campaign lost, and then blamed it on her tearing up. They sent out the talking points press memo's to the media about it, they jumped on it. Jesse Jackson Jr. came out and began an excellent smear campaign. Hillary Clinton is a racist. She cried for herself. She didn't cry for Katrina. Never mind facts, put it out, have the media discuss it ad nauseum , say it again and again, get others to say it again and again, (ala neocon tactic) enlist the blogs and it becomes the truth.
Does it matter that she didn't actually cry? her eyes welled up?
NO. Does it matter that she teared up when answering a question and talking about why she gets up and does it everyday? No. JJ.Jr. said she cried because of how she looked. (I have no idea where he got that or how he came up with it.) again, repeat, repeat, repeat=truth.
Does it matter that he has no idea if she cried for the victims of Katrina or the frustration with the administration? No. He said she didn't and repeated it and therefore it is true. He intimates that she is a racist, he intimates she pretended to cry, therefore it is true.

so there is the beginning of the more overt campaign to marginalize with a new narrative. Hillary is a racist. Then right after that is South carolina. Again... new narrative, more accusations, more outrage. Does it matter that the Bill was answering a specific question and there were only three people he could refer to? Edwards, in the race, himself who won huge, and Jessie Jackson. Who could he refer to? Himself? oh sure.
If he did they would have said he should have referred to Jesse because he run to, he's a racist. He compliments a well fought and well run campaign-for both of those people... and so the narrative takes more shape and is continued. Then MLK... in context you see something completely different than it was spun.
Does it matter? No, they said it, again and again over the airwaves, it must be true. Masterful.
What was next... oh, Geraldine Ferraro. She said something to a very tiny paper in No. California. Something no one would have seen except those up there in that area. She also said something that Obama himself had said... she just said it differently and maybe with frustration. Again, if heard in context a very different impression.Axelrod and componay dig thiis out, send it out, make a huge story... and the narrative is set in stone now. It has its own life so they can stop.
And they sort of did. They had to after the 4 pages of internal memos came out of the campaign somehow detailing how to get that message across... some dated before there was anything to complain about. (See Russert's questioning Obama about it and all the email morning talking points explaining that this or that was a racist comment and here's why, during one or before it. I forget. There has been so much.)

Now mind you, I was an Obama supporter through all of this. I was not crazy about Clinton so I was predisposed to side with him, but I just did not see it. I knew about the facts of the Clinton's and their work with the AA causes throughout their lives. I was paying a lot of attention and did a lot of research on these candidates.
Still, one accusation could be a misunderstanding. 2 accusations could be a heightened sensitivity...and hey, its politics. After that it is a pattern.

Again, logic prevails and I ask myself who benefits. The Clinton's have demonstrated their committment to AA issues and causes over a life time. they are savvy politicians, certainly savvy enough to know that playing a race card would only hurt them. The media and everyone else talks about their legendary machine, their political acumen, their Machiavellian knowledge on how to play the game yet no one names this as completely off kilter? No one says this is not savvy, smart or Machiavellian? No one mentions this is completely at odds with everything they have ever done in their lives?

Nope.
It just gets repeated over and over and is now the new narrative, logic be damned.
Logic? We don't need no stinking logic.

So it is with this pastor issue for Obama. This isn't the first time someone he is close to screams out this verbal bile against Clinton.
I don't think they expected Wright to come out.but this one?
I may need to get my tinfoil hat out of storage but I see Axelrod's fingers all over this.
It brings the narrative up front and center and reminds people of what they now know as "truth."
Axelrod is a genius. His firm specializes in it. (reference the Business Weekly internet article/interview talking about astroturfing and Axelrod's particular adeptness.) And, if Clinton reacts in anyway that can be condemned or used against her its a double bonus.

It is so typical of the Obama campaign.
First you attack, then you duck and cover... apologize sort of, then when the opposition reacts and maybe attacks back he is the victim of Clinton attacks. "her claws come out." She periodicallu feels the need to attack" "She will do and say anything to win the nomination." She is too polarizing." I can get her supporters she can't get mine."
There is so much more of these passive aggressive swipes, jabs and turning of tables. It has been fascinating (and infuriating) to watch.

Axelrove: a fricking genius.
I just wish the Clinton campaign had hired him. Then she could be really guilty of her reputation of doing and saying anything to get elected.

Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger (as well as Obama's other "spiritual advisors") are far-left radicals with communist/socialist tendencies and political leanings. Their comments are not arbitrary/random faux pas, but carefully planned for their timing and impact as part of the overall tactics of the Obama campaign. These diatribes are embedded into the far-left's plans to get Barack Obama elected to the presidency, by appealing to the racist components of non-white voters' personalities, which voters the far-left truly believes will carry the 2008 presidential election. They are succeeding to a significant extent, and if you investigate deeply into the overall planning process of the far-left, which goes back at least to the year 2000, and probably earlier, you will conclude clearly that Barack Obama is the far-left's Manchurian Candidate. Watch the movie, the black and white edition, and see the analogies and correspondences. This is what is happening in this year's presidential campaign, and nothing less than this. Barack Obama, teamed with Charley Rangel and Barney Frank, will drive this country to its economic knees, ultimately to bankruptcy.

Trinity Church seems to have a probem - I had hoped the new pastor would be able to convey a message of inclusion, hope and faith to the parishioners there and to the nation at large, Instead, more of the same and total tolerance of disrespect toward women and certainly to Barack Obama.
Self destructive to themselves and to all of us who held hope.

OK FOLKS CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG . WHY DOES A {WHITE} CATHOLIC PREIST SOUND AND RANT LIKE A BLACK PREACHER USING WORDS THAT BLACK FOLKS USE ? DOES HE HAVE A 10 MIL HOUSE AND 2 FINE CARS. THE STAGE SEEMS TO BE ONE FOR PERSONEL SUCCESS$$$$$$ THE PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. WHITE AND BLACK NEED TO DRINK THE KOOLAIDE AND GET IT OVER. YOU CANT FIX STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

How is Pfleger allowed to continually represent the church in his antics?..Im a Catholic, and he sure doesnt represent my views. It's time for Rev Pfleger to step down or be removed

Pfleger is just as anti-American as Wright. Obama chose the church, and the church has shown that Wright was not an aberration but the norm. The church is anti-American and anti-white. That's some church Barack Obama oicked to join. No wonder Barack and Michelle Obama aren't proud of their country. I see the changes Barack Obama has in mind, and I don't much care for it.

What is paricularly galling is the church choir falling all over themselves and acting like FOOLS during this idiotic performance. The whole congregation must be Obamorons!

Hello President McCain!!!

Lynne,
You stated I was told Pfleger's comments stunned some in the Obama camp because they expected him to be more politically savvy -- and not take on Clinton, especially at Trinity, of all places.

Did anyone in the Obama camp indicate they were stunned at the content of his statements about white entitlement and Hillary? Did they know how Pfleger thought, but just expected him to be savvier about saying it in public?
I'd also like to know if anyone in the Obama camp indicated they were stunned by the approving reaction of Obama's co-parishioners.

Thanks--

I watched Pfleger's sermon, and he is a bit cruel, kicking Hillary when she's down, but that has been Hillary's attitude all along, isn't it, that she was entitled to the presidency, and that Obama's an upstart? And it was Bill and Geraldine Ferraro, after all, who brought up the issue about how people were only voting for him because he's "black",and Hillary herself recent saying she's the hard working "white" person's candidate, as if "white" people are the only folks that work hard, so is Pfleger that far off to accuse Hillary of having a sense of "white entitlement?"

I'm "white" and I grew up in Hawaii, where "whites" at the time were a minority, so I had the somewhat unusual experience (for a "white person) of being mistreated and even discriminated against because of race ("whites" in Hawaii are referred to as "haoles", sometimes angrily and disparagingly) and you know what -- it didn't feel that good, to feel like crap because of the color of your skin. I even went through a phase of straightening my hair and dying it black to try to be more like the other people there. But even so, "whites" weren't crammed into the bad part of town, we didn't have whole areas of Honolulu where everyone was the same race, and mixed marriages and multiracial people (like Barack Obama) were a dime a dozen there, and still are. So it wasn't anything like being "black" on the "Mainland" (what we call the rest of the United States)

I still remember coming to Chicago to visit my grandmother when I was 12, and the taxi driver who picked us up relating to us like we were fellow "white" people, raving about how all these "niggers" come up from the South, go on "welfare" and then buy homes in "white" neighborhoods, and how it was like landing on another planet. My mother the "liberal" tried to reason with the jerk. (My kid sister had a better idea -- she threw up in the back of the cab.)

That was years ago and I live in California now, but even so -- sorry, folks, but some of you "white" people ARE racists, at least from my point of view. I also realize that a lot of you just don't know any better, but it still embarrasses me

So Father Pfleger? Sarcastic, cutting, unkind, yeah, but a racist lunatic? I don't think so. And this silly business about candidates constantly having to apologize for the antics of their followers.

In some ways one feels sorry for Obama. Wright,Phleger, Ayers,
farrahkan the most racist and radical people in America claim
to be his friends and advisors. Obama may have a good heart, but his choice of adivsors leaves much tobe desired.

This is so wrong. For the last twenty years I have tended to vote Republican until this last primary. I voted for Barack. I met him walking through the Sears Tower last March 07 and really like him. He was very friendly and spoke to my wife's family visitibg from Europe. Senator Obama offered a change in direction felt America needed. I worked past Wright and a lot of the Clinton tactics. But this radical catholic priest who has caused problems in Chicago for over 2 centuries is the last straw. Cardinal George should stand up to the plate and remove this man from the parish. Several years ago they made an exception and kept him as pastor against policy because he threatned to quit. America needs the vision that the Senator speaks about not this hatred and poison these man send out in their christian message. My 12 years of catholic schooling were not even close to the pure adversity these men spread. Un believable they pretend to be Christians!

As a God-fearing catholic, my apologies to Hilary, black and white catholics and, other non-racist white or black person who were deeply offended by this idiot racist - who is clearly not living his vow to be and speak as Jesus would. Jesus is LOVE and LOVE does not think and speak as Mr. Pfleger. He (Mr. Pfleger) is the one who has just finished raping and raping and raping the catholic faith for selfish non-christian objectives. All he accomplished was to equate himself to follow in the path of the typical sick racist persons who have unfortunately dammaged humanity across all cultures and countries. Yes - sadly there are victims of racisms, but for Mr. Pfleager to think that he accomplished rightoueness or justice for them is the ultimate example of blind faith. He's forgotten to ask himself the most basic principle of christian faith........."what would Jesus say"? I'm sad for the illed legacy Mr. Pfleager is building for himself and, God is even sadder.

How could anyone who calls themselves Catholic support a candidate who approves of partial birth abortion? He's not just pro-choice. He would allow pba to be the law of the land and he would bring in Supreme Court judges who feel the same way.

I have a gift for Barrack Hussein Obama and the DNC-a shovel and the book "Holes." He can continue to bury himself. Every week, a new ignorant individual comes out who just happens to be one of Obama's buds. He and his racist wife do not associate with anyone w/character, morals, or values. He does not deserve the presidency and certainly is not qualified.

I won't live to see it but the American dream and nation is going down. Forget the "racism" ( why didn't C olin Powell say yes?) Obama and his religious institution is frankly low class.

"Father Pfleger used humor to speak the truth."

I'm tired of this. I voted for Obama in the senatorial primary and urged others to do so. Now, because I find the language of close associates of Obama to be offensively untrue and am disappointed that Obama has not spoken out forcefully (not enough to make this nonsense stop), suddenly I am not able to stand the "truth". Obama supporters, get a clue. You are damaging your candidate.

Pfleger's comment may only have taken up 1 minute, but as Obama has said, words matter. They matter when Pfleger claims that Clinton and her supporters are racist because of their alleged sense of entitlement and they matter when Wright blames Italians for killing Jesus and calls them derogatory names. Doesn't Wright understand how offensive and dangerous his words were? Doesn't he understand that centuries of persecution of Jews were justified by such rhetoric?

And where is Obama in all of this? Muttering some insipid "apologies", while some of those who are closest to him (Wright as a "mentor" for 20 years, Pfleger as a close associate who was part of Catholics for Obama) spew hatred. To paraphrase Michelle Obama, if you can't keep your own campaign in order, you can't run the White House.

I already have issues with Obama's proposals (a health care that will leave millions uninsured, a less than stellar environmental plan that includes gifts to ComEd/Exelon for new nuclear power plants, a plan to "withdraw" forces from Iraq that will leave behind 60,000 troops). I don't need this additional garbage.

For those who bring up Hagee, no, McCain is not getting away with it. I would never vote for McCain. It's just that I expect more from a Democrat, especially one who claims to be able to transcend race and politics as usual.

My goodness. It appears that Barack Obama's supporters - like this
"priest" that has long supported both Obama's state as well as this one national campaign - are an unruly, outrageous, and controversial lot. And this late in the campaign for President of the United State Obama seems stellarly unable to distance himself from them - because they are so pervasively a part of who he is and has been - apparently.

The like minded hoots and hollers of delighted appreciation from Obama's fellow church members a reminder to us all that Obama has never chosen to leave this church - and this church's ongoing poor choices (arguably racist and/or bigoted to say the least) as to ministers and invited guests. My goodness indeed.

More than just a anecdotal "issue" - for not even one term served in the U.S. Senate, stranger to us all Barack Obama. A measure - again and again and again - of the lack of character and bad judgment as to "associations" that Barack Obama prefers. Let us all take a listen to that which - and those who Obama prefers. Very telling indeed. So offensive and unforgivable. Really. Who IS Barack Obama - at the end of the day - with offensive, mean spirited "friends" like these? Over and over and over....

You can't say that Pfleger is not part of Obama's campaign. The Obama campaign paid for Pfleger to go to Iowa to campaign for Obama. He was listed on Obama's website as one of Obama's "spiritual advisers" until it was taken down yesterday.

If you are not a congregant at Trinity, why should you care what's being said there??!! All religions have their fair share of nuts and based upon the way Obama is being treated, you'd think we live in a theocracy.

THE THING THAT FATHER WHATEVER-HIS-NAME-IS WAS NOT HATEFUL BUT IT SIMPLY WAS NOT THE RIGHT THING TO SAY. REMEMBER.... IF IT WAS RACIST FOR HIM TO MAKE THOSE COMMENTS ABOUT HILLARY, THEN WHY IS HIS SKIN WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MAN THAT RIDICULED HILLARY WAS WHITE PEOPLE NOT BLACK- OK! SO, YOU ALL THAT LET THIS MAN'S COMMENT DETOUR YOU AWAY FROM SUPPORTING OBAMA ARE RACIST RETARDS YOURSELF THAT NEVER HAD THE INTENTIONS ON SUPPORTING OBAMA. ANYWAY, I THINK THERE WAS SOME TRUTH TO WHAT HE SAID.

Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Gov Blago, Michelle Obama, etc., you are judged by the company you keep. Just not associating with these people, hanging with them for years and years. Obama is through. All McCain has to do is watch his moouth until Nov.

Wow. You people can't tell the difference between a statement made by a delusional man of faith and a Presidential candidate. Obama didn't say the hurtful thing, a supposedly compassionate "man of God" did. Imagine if you had to go around criticizing everything anyone you ever associated with said that you didn't agree with. How about listening to what Obama says and stop attributing to him things said by delusional morons. Obama seems to be a man of intelligence and grace. He is putting out a positive message.

No one speaks for me. Not even my friends. I have a voice of my own and so does Obama. The only conclusion that I can draw from people attributing to him the stone age views spoken by people he has known, is that they themselves have no voice other than that shared by all the people they know. I am personally glad I am not friends with such weak minded people.

Judge a man by his merits, not by the passing company he was ever vaguely associated with.

As we know, Hillary is waiting "just in case" some new disaster befalls Obama. Was she behind this?

*****************************************************************

This is what Senator Obama's campaign has wrought. Conspiracy theorists, racial hatred and the demonization of women who did nothing other than choose a different candidate than theirs have taken over our political discourse.

A strong Democratic Congress will keep John McCain centered.

I got a 401K. Therefore, I'm a racist and should give it up. So what if I worked 31 years of shift-work to build-up my 401K....In the meantime, the Rev. Wright's of the world have $1.6 million dollar mansions and a fleet of Mercedes-Benz's . As do the Jackson's and Farrakhan's.............And you wonder why the democrats might take an easy victory and still manage to turn it into a defeat.

Well, everyone certainly has their opinions on this subject. I just want to pose this question. Picture the media coming out at least once every 2-3 weeks and showing Hillary's pastor, spiritual advisors and close friends Ayer's, Wright, Redszo, Pfleger and anyone else they drag up saying the exact same things they are saying right now, and picture Hillary saying I denounce and reject these things, they never said them when I was there, I really don;t think they meant what you think they meant, you took their words out of context and my Grandmother, a typical black person, is afraid of white people sometimes. Would you believe her!?!!? Vote for her!?? Or just ask for another glass of purple koolaid!!!

The word "racist" is usually reserved for members of the dominant race in a society. Pfleger's comments may have been prejudicial, but they are not racist.

" Thank you Pfleger and Wright, with your help, you are fueling the fire to make sure that Obama will not be President."

Thanks Hagee, that McCain begged to endorse him, has been finally outed as saying that the Jews deserved the Holocaust and that the Catholic Church is the Great Whore, and that the Pope is the antichrist! McCain apologized for deliberately connecting himself to this lunatic, but that's not enough! He should be forced to DENOUNCE Hagee - as Obama denounced Wright, or he's just the usual rightwinger who wants it both way. I lot of McCain far right evangelicals agree with Hagee, so McCain won't apologize truly as he should. These statements are 1000 times worse than what Pflegler said, but he won't get the same noise on the far right Fox.

" Didn't (Michelle Obama) she talk about entitlement on a campaign platform and how her black husband was entitled to be the Democratic nominee."

No she didn't but do keep spreading hatred to your fellow haters who don't care about the truth. ARe you a Fox watcher getting your daily rightwing talking points or a HIllary lover who supports a woman who doesn't mind being cheated on by her husband. She's standing up for women to weak to kick adulterers out.

"Anyone that will not salute the US flag is not fit to be the President of this country."

If you are talking about Obama, you are wrong again. He has NEVER refused to salute the US flag. Where do you get this from? Fox Lies? Or are you a Hillarybot. Both of those groups love spreading lies.

" I got a 401K. Therefore, I'm a racist and should give it up. "

Where do the righties get this stuff? I doubt that even Fox would push such insanity.

"So what if I worked 31 years of shift-work to build-up my 401K....In the meantime, the Rev. Wright's of the world have $1.6 million dollar mansions and a fleet of Mercedes-Benz's"

How much does Pat Robertson have? FAr far more than Wright! And Hill and Bill got $109 MILLION in the last few years and get the $400,000 pension from him being president! Who are you madat? Why not be made at Bill Gates or Bush or Hillary and Bill?

" . As do the Jackson's and Farrakhan's.............And you wonder why the democrats might take an easy victory and still manage to turn it into a defeat.

Posted by: john | May 31, 2008 09:35 AM "

What does Jackson and Farrakhan have to do with the presidential election? N=O=T=H=I=N=G

If you believe that black people on average make more money than the average white you are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wrong.

It's easier for a white man with a criminal record to get a job than a black man who has no criminal record.

What in the heck are you talking about? YOu prefer McCain and his wife who together have more than $200 million? He has 8 houses but he just told "greedy Americans" that they should only have ONE house! How's that for hypocrisy! And if you believe that the Jews deserved the Holocaust and the Catholic Church is Teh Great Whore vote for McCain!

If you vote for Hill and Bill, they have $109 MILLION they made in only the last few years! Both have graduate degrees from prestige universities and Bill even got the very Elite Rhodes Scholarship to study in Britain! Hillary has worked at Walmart helping Walmart rip off their employees. How's that for an "average woman" she tries to convince you she is by drinking shots when ususaly she drinks $100 bottles of fine whine.

There's a race war coming to America.

John - The Clintons did all kinds of stuff when Bill was president that don't pass the smell test. What kind of feminist would allow her husband to have several affairs with women and still let him sleep in her bed like a good rightwing evangelical woman who bows to her husband no matter what he does?

I'm insulted that she calls herself a feminist and then hasn't got the uhm balls to tell him to get lost after the FIRST bimbo eruption. She's an embarassment to any true feminist in America.

And now she is pulling the race card by saying white people won't vote for a black man. She's killing the Democratic party for her own personal desires. Maybe she thinks it would make up for Bill's constant adultery.

How typical that this is yet another one of those apologies that come with an asterisk. Pfleger isn't sorry, end of sentence. He's sorry "if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them." He knew exactly what he was saying and he went on and on and on about it. He's not sorry for what he said. He's only sorry if it hurts Obama. Pfleger's tirade is who he is.

What's disturbing about Pfleger's speech isn't that he's another self hating White liberal patronizing an angry black audience, it's that so many Black Americans believe what he's saying is true. The notion that White America owes something to Black America for wrongs committed by previous generations is irrational. How can you charge a few hundred million people for something they didn't do? The absurd response by some in the Black community is that since White's benefit from past injustices this makes them guilty. "White Privilege" supposedly makes all Whites "guilty".

Firstly, White America isn't by default "privileged". Most of White America is middle and working class and their opportunities for advancement are determined by how talented, resourceful, smart, hard working etc. they are. Being White doesn't mean you get a free pass at the University, or that you're automatically hired at every job interview, particularly since the application of racist affirmative action laws 40 years ago.

Many Black Americans seem to forget that a large percentage of Whites in this country are descendants of more recent European immigrants that were themselves discriminated against when they worked and lived in some of the poorest areas of the country. Any wealth in these families wasn't accrued through the taking of Black property etc.

Lastly, even if Whites do benefit on some level from the past oppression of Black America (through stereotypes or networking within the White community) that doesn't mean they're guilty of any crime or owe Black America anything. If that were the case all Americans are guilty, as we all benefit from past injustices, like the taking of lands from Native Americans that modern Americans now own. Land that supplies us with oil, gold, park land and so on. The history of opression in the U.S. is ugly but not unique to this country: genocide happened in Rawanda and is happening in South Africa and Sudan. Black America is neither the first nor the last group to be oppressed unfortunately. What the U.S. needs is honest dialogue and reconciliation between the races not finger pointing and obnoxious speeches.

MarciaC and Anonymous(which means you don't have the guts to tell us your name): Its your hero, Rev. Pfleger who has said people with 401K's need to depart with some of it for the betterment of society. THATS A FACT ! Not me...As for the Clinton's, its YOU folks who rallied around the Clinton's when Bill was caught with Monica. THATS A FACT ! Matter of fact, several Black Journalists and authors began calling him "the first Black President". THATS A FACT ! And it was YOUR hero's, Rev. Wright and Rev. Jackson, who gave Bill so-called spiritual guidance after the Monica episode. THATS A FACT ! And I don't remember none of YOU so-called feminists being insulted and speaking out when Clinton's Monica-episode became public. FACT !

Not being a Catholic I wanted to see whether Catholics were as shocked as I was about this Pfleger fellow.

Nut jobs like this pop up everywhere. The really sad story, if you watch the video, is the reaction of the audience (parishoners?). They love his hate.

Why didn't the MC stop and say, hey Pfleger, that is just hate mongering. Nope, they thought he was great.

"What luck for rulers that men do not think."

I am sorry for you Catholics. Why doesn't somebody in Rome step up to the plate and denounce that priest? Or is this priest too powerful already?

I thought it was funny how Mayor Robert Stranczek was embarrassed to be a Catholic because of Father Phleger... does he wonder how many people have had to swallow the embarrassment of living in Crestwood after the worldwide publicity following the deliberate acts of police misconduct at the Walmart in December 2007?

Catholics stand for the family. Robert Stranczek does not... did he get to the bottom of the police abuse of an innocent mother by his police?

Catholics stand for the truth. Robert Stranczek does not... he knows by now the truth about what happened at that Walmart... either he doesn't care about truth and justice or he isn't man enough to stand up to his police chief Timothy Sulikowski and do something about it.

A man who allows a lie to perpetuate is himself a liar. Robert Stranczek is a liar.

A man who allows the abuse of a child to go unchecked is himself a child abuser. Robert Stranzek is a child abuser.

A man who allows an unjustice to go on unrectified is himself unjust. Robert Stranczek is an unjust man.

What nerve Mayor Robert Stranczek has to demand of Cardinal George the excommunication of a man who said some idiotic statement that Robert Stranczek (and many others)disagree with, when Robert Stranczek has embarrassed the Village of Crestwood with his spineless lack of oversight of the abuses of his police department.

Robert Stranczek said to a reporter from the Southtown Star that he was "embarrassed by Father Phlegers comments."

Robert Stranczek, take a moment and let this sink in... I and countless other Catholics, here and around the world are embarrassed to have you as a member of our church.

When the world told you to do something about the police abuse in your village you did nothing.

Robert Stranczek is the greater embarrassment.

The original Mayor Stranczek commented on many things on the sign in front of village hall...the debate over gays in the military in the early '90s led to another polarizing message on the sign: “No Gays in My Foxhole.” He’s also reportedly posted signs complaining about...welfare recipients.

Stranczek, you embarrass me, a lot of Catholics and a bunch of people in Crestwood. And you haven't even been the Mayor for a year.

Rumor has it that the ArchBishop is afraid of Pfleger..
But the Vatican and the whole world are watching...

Did you preach to a respectful congregation or to a Jerry Springer rehearsal? The finger is being pointed at Father Phleger and Rev. Wright as it should be but but nobody is addressing the boorish behavior of the congregation (and I use the word congregation loosely). They shouted, cheered and applauded. They loved every racist word. Maybe your remarks should be addressed to them. Do they come for Sunday worship services or to a circus with a clown like Father Phleger and Rev. Wright in the center ring? No wonder atheism is on the rise. They musut be having a laugh with all this.

To whoever said that America has more prisoners in jail than China. China has draconian laws and harsh punishment. Capital punishment in China is not just for murder, but for a host of other crimes, especially economic crimes. The reason China has less prisoners than the U.S. is that there is no right of appeal in China. You are executed shortly after judgment with a bullet in the back of head because (a) it is cheaper; (b) no internal organs are damaged; and (c) they can immediately harvest and sell the organs for transplants. China may or may not have many people in jail, but they have the highest execution rate in the world.

Not only does Obama support partial birth abortion, but he was the only one in the Illinois legislature to vote against the Babies Born alive Act. That act will protect babies who are born during an abortion. Obama's reason for voting against this
Act was "that if the Act passed, then 'fetuses' would be called a person and negate abortion rights." Yes, Obama, let's just throw the babies in the corner and let him gasp and die. The Pro-Choice abortion lobby would not even touch this. They just let it go. What was Obama's point of being the only one who opposed the Act?

Obama remarked in Pennsylvania that "they are so bitter, they cling to their guns and religion." It was apparent during Rev. Wright's sermons (harrangues) that the bitterness in the audience was rampant. Don't they cling to their religion? Obama take a good look at the African American population for bitterness, religion and guns. Several years ago in Philadelphia, the police department, in an effort to put a lid on violence, offered to pay anyone who turned their guns in to the police. Needless to say, it was a complete failure. Very few guns were turned in and the violence went on unabated with a murder every day and several on the weekends in the black neighborhoods. Who clings to guns and religion, Obama? By the by, who is "they?" Obama and the flamethrower wife of his use this term "they" in many of their speeches. I listend to one of her speeches and I lost count of the many times she used the term "they." "They" tried to stop us." etc., etc. Very mysterious whoever "they" is.

Kyle: "antics of their followers?" These were not followers, but advisors and mentors. Anyway, he didn't apologize for them, he threw them under the bus.

To John: THANK YOU!! Couldn't have out that better myself as for the hypocrites and holier thans whining about 'preaching hate' or 'hateful comments' didn't have ANY PROBLEM when Shrillary was making HER hateful comments or any of HER cronies such as Steinem and Ferraro making snide racist comments. And I agree 150 PERCENT with the posters who said people on these message boards need a damn history lesson. In case you didn't or don't[or refuse to] THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT BY RACISM AND RACIST POLITICIANS so cut the CRAP ALREADY!! And that little fantasy world you live in is about to get a BIG-TIME wake up call NOBODY had a problem with the countless upon countless upon COUNTLESS WHITE MALE POLITICIANS like Einsenhowser,Truman,Reagan,Bush,Coolidge,Wilson. Or so-called 'liberals' like Kennedy,Johnson, and even Clinton who voted for bill after bill that screwed blacks over and made out lives not only h-a-r-d-e-r but a living damn hell. Noone had a problem with 'those racists' or 'thier racism' or when black even VOTED for these people for whatever bizzare misguided reason but NOW Obama is the bad guy?!! And NOW you people want to have 'standards' you have been voting in liars, cheats, crooks, charlatans, perverts, lowlifes, idiots, and yes RACISTS since day fraeking one!! So don't try to act like Polly Purehearts now and if a-n-y-o-n-e is running a con game or preaching hate it's YOU. In fact MOST of you jizzholes on this board have proven Pfleger and Wright r-i-g-h-t and you do it every single day. So you are hardly in a position to act so high and mighty unless you want to do it in the right place: a mirror!
