The scoop from Washington

Jeremiah Wright on PBS Bill Moyers interview calls Obama "a politician."

WASHINGTON—Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in an interview with Bill Moyers broadcast Friday on PBS, called Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) a “politician,” a word that’s a sting in the Obama world, where Obama has been campaigning for more than a year as a transformational, anti-Washington agent of change.

Moyers asked Wright to react to Obama’s speech in Philadelphia where he distanced him self from his pastor—but did not disown him.

Wright said, “It went down very simply. He's a politician. I'm a pastor. We speak to two different audiences. And he says what he has to say as a politician. I say what I have to say as a pastor. Those are two different worlds. I do what I do, he does what politicians do. So that what happened in Philadelphia where he had to respond to the soundbites, he responded as a politician. “

Obama at a press conference in Indiana on Friday sidestepped a direct response to his being called a “politician.”
He said he understood why Wright would “disagree” with him in light of his speech about his “profound disagreements with some of Rev. Wrights’ comments.

BRAVO TO REV. WRIGHT- A TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT!
LISTEN TO HIS SERMONS AMERICA OR DON'T LISTEN AT ALL!
DOWN WITH SOUNDBITES!
DOWN WITH FOX NEWS!
ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT, THANKS FOR MAKING TRINITY UNITED CHURCH
OF CHRIST AN ENJOYABLE PLACE TO WORSHIP!
THIS WONDERFUL MAN PUT HIS COLLEGE EDUCATION ON HOLD, AND
VOLUNTEERED FOR THE MILITARY!
TWO YEARS IN THE MARINES, 4 YEARS IN THE NAVY!
AMERICA- PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MAN MORE SERIOUSLY, HE IS FAR MORE
THAN A SOUNDBITE!
HE COULD HAVE BEEN LIKE CHENEY, GEORGE W. BUSH, AND BILL CLINTON,
THESE MEN USED DEFERMENTS TO STAY OUT OF THE ACTIVE ARMED FORCES!
REV. WRIGHT IS A TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT!

That's fine. But, I guess I still don't understand how a minister who KNOWS he's got good politicians in his audience--or people who would be good ones too in his audience--and would still say things in a way that he shoulda thunk the fox 'newsies' of the universe would distort--intentionally.
Or shouldn't he have to worry about that.
Just seems to me he could have saved everybody a lot of hassle if he'd checked his 'fun to say' comments at the tip of his tongue.

I can't believe Bill Moyers is airing this garbage.
Bill! Don't phone in shows cuz you're tired!
How about a great investigative piece on how Da Mare and Da Messiah failed to follow through on all those gun control bills we expected Barry to pass in the Il house--back when we who voted for him thought he was a 'for real' liberal?

It appears to me that Rev. Wright is dealing in double talk when he says that he is a Pastor and Obama is a Politician. Does that mean they speak different languages? As a member of Rev. Wrights congregation does Obama attend church because it's the political thing to do?

This just doesn't make any sense to me.

The only suprise here is that Wright tells it the way it is. Obama did not search out his Church for any other reason than he truly agrees with Reverend Wright.
He has to travel a long way to go to 95th street to attend the church. It is not as if the church is anywhere near his home, I mean his and Rezko's mansion.

yep...and while this sideshow was ongoing plouffeeee say's mccain has the "racist" vote. ok. but he and axelrod seem to have obama's money:-)! show me the money, baby! follow the money and you'll see the candidate, yes?
...and i approve THIS message.

Bravo, Rev. Wright, for an outstanding interview with Bill Moyers!! Just outstanding! I was SO glad to see you speak your truth...and to know that those watching would have to swallow your truth fresh and whole (instead of taking it in from half-baked, chewed up, and regurgitated sound bytes!)

Thank you for coming forward and claiming your voice, sir. Thank you for being who you are. As you know, many of us love you DEARLY.

LB

P.S. You had me clapping on my living room couch when you said we were made in the image of God, and not of governments. Amen, amen!

By taking just a few excerpts from Rev. Wrights lengthy interview, and without providing the context to that statement, you're also falling into the same category of people that the Rev was talking about: you put a spin on the one word that you feel will give your views mileage and assign your own meaning to it when in fact Rev. Wright might not have meant it quite in the negative or derogatory way you put it. If I were to take the same liberties with your short piece that you've taken with the good Rev's, I would put you in the same category as those who feign ignorance, pretend not to know what he really meant, and take false umbrage at his statements without batting an eyelid--the whole time doing so deliberately so as to mislead or to give mileage to the story. If you're so inclined, then egg on your face.

Wow! Mr. Wright and Mr. Moyers had a very intelligent discussion on race, politics, and the media, and this is the best you can come up with. Might I suggest to the readers of this article that they watch the whole show, and listen to the total context of his speeches. You might have a different view of Rev. Wright after viewing it.

I'm one of those white Catholic Democratic Lou Dobbs women voters. When the policies and positions of candidates are similar, we vote on character. Unfortunately for Barack Obama, a person is judged by the company he keeps (Jerimiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Penny Pritzker). You don't attend a church for 18 years and not know what your pastor is saying. Even if Obama wasn’t in attendance when Jerimiah Wright spoke in such hateful ways, Obama heard about Wright’s messages from others. To stay in that church for 18 years is unforgiveable. If Wright was so important in Obama’s life, why wouldn’t Wright have been actively involved in his campaign, except for his hateful thoughts? A man of character would have found another church in which to worship. I’m certain there are many other black pastors who don’t speak with such vehemence. I and many of my friends in Illinois and in states like PA, CA, KY & IN are neither blind nor stupid. Obama doesn’t have our vote now or will he in November.

Lynn, I think the word "sting" is too strong. Senator Obama was placed in an impossible position. Reverend Wright is simply stating a fact. Even though Obama is emerging as an agent for change, he's entered the world of politics and that's all I heard Rev. Wright saying.

I admire both and feel the contrived attack on Rev. Wright and Obama is what outrages me.

You apparently reported as most columnists, radio and TV talking heads commented on the snippets released by PBS.

Having seen the full one-hour program onc see how that media, that includes you, are controlled by the 24/7 news cycle cycle that it seeks to fill in a competitive and a very fragmented media environment.

The comment about Barack Obama by Rev. Jeremiah Wright was a two second comment made in the context of a one-hour show, which gave the viewer a much better idea of what Rev. Wright meant.

The new “snippet journalism” which now supplements the old time “horse race journalism,” now rules the media “Snippet journalism” does not serve America. It is a blight on this Nation.

Of course, that's the way you make a living. Now,that you have, I hope, viewed the full Bill Moyers Interview you will have more to say on the subject.

Then again, you might not, since time is of the essence to the a "snippet" journalist such as you and others are.

The interview Moyers did with Rev. Wright went only SO FAR into explaining the philosophy that culminated in the "God Damn America" (GDA) coda broadcast so misleadingly.
However.
Moyers could have done a better job on two fronts (so could Wright have):
1. Tying what occurred with the soundbite into the bigger problem of media reform--It's the soundbite culture that was the problem. Moyers should be commended for showing the longest version of the sermon prior to the GDA bit. Wright and Moyers should have both explained how thi is similar to what happened to Kucinich, Edwards, Ferraro, etc..
2. Exploring the adoption of the 'non colonized' Muslin religion in his church's 'Blackness' bit. C'mon. It's there. Same with the 'special' relationship with Farrakhan. Women have a back of the bus status in most Islamic organizations. With rare exceptions--and those women defend the separation, saying things like "Oh it's the way women want it."
Expected a better job from Bill.

I am one of those rare birds, perhaps, who believes there is a use for the word "politician" other than as a perjorative. The first definition offered by my pop-up dictionary is:

Noun:A person who is professionally involved in politics, esp. as a holder of, or candidate for, an elected office.

The perjorative is a second definition.

I suggest that Rev. Wright, who describes himself as a "pastor" (a word for which there does not seem to be a perjorative alternate), might have been speaking as the educated man he is, as a pastor.

Can't believe Bill Moyers was so sexist with this interview.
Why didn’t Jeremiah Wright get questioned about his pillorying of Hillary?
Barack wasn’t raised, as Wright said, by a single mom—he was raised by his two grandparents.
Where is Barack Obama’s apology for this?
More importantly-where is Wright’s apology to Hillary?
No Hillary never had ‘her own people say she wasn’t white enough’—but her femininity gets questioned daily.

Maybe Bill Moyers can play the lead in to the clip above.
I would love to know what preceded it.
Is he compensating---for being a part of the racist LBJ administration that grudgingly refused and then dramatically signed the civil rights bill?

I watched the entire show and it was very insightful. Of course, the only part most people will hear is the media, main stream, and other wise is the politian clip. so much for creating a new sound bite.

In Wrights sermon he claims the US Government has not right to commit war - he needs to read his Bible (such as Romans 13) because not only is it within the right of a government but Christians are to obey their government. Wright compares the US Military to seeking revenge by killing babies. How sick is Wright to think the mission of the US military is to kill babies.

Lynn,

Your recent blog post relied solely on very short clips of Rev. Wright's comments on Bill Moyers Journal provided by PBS. They were much like the YouTube clips shown over and over again, which were extracted secretly from 37 recording tapes, available directly from the Trinity Church of Christ.

Words are important, but context is everything. For whatever reason, the media (Newspapers, network and cable TV commentators and talk radio) are still playing what I call "snippet journalism," often based on short YouTube or advance clips promoting shows, or the automatic acceptance of the reports made by others in the media.

I have seen the full hour program, which is now available from PBS. If you and other reporters expect to have any professional integrity left after this campaign is over, I suggest you get a copy of the PBS DVD, or see the replay of the Bill Moyers' inteview of Rev. Wright.

Bill Moyers, a journalist of the old school, allowed Rev. Wright to present his side of this controversy. Rev. Wright has been pillored and villified like no other non-candidate that I can ever recall. He has a right to defend his reputation. I sure you would also.

Roger Mudd in his recent book says that he was demoted by CBS and lost his opportunity to replace Walter Cronkite for taking one question out of context in an interview he did.

Times have sure changed. Now, snippets and soundbites seem to be more important to the working media than the context in which statements are made.

I have been reading newspapers and assessing the quality, and I might add, the integrity of the media for the past 50 years.

The public can no longer rely on the integrity of the media.
The standards for news reporting that Walter Lippman tried to establish over 75 years ago would fall on deaf ears today.

Well, spining again. that was the only phrase Rev. Wright said in a way that could put Obama in a spot.

But, the sound bites obtained and played by the media over and over again without context were devious, malicious, for a smear campaing.

Please don't see sound bites anymore.

If anyone is reading this message and have some dignity, would see the entire interview. The Wrihgt controversy was manifactured.

How sad.........

i hope truth will prevail.

Why is it that no one is asking the media to APOLOGIZE to Rev Wright????

Why is it that no one in the media today brought the Rev Wright interview as a subject? Because that would show what the media has done. They now prefer to forget about it. Im sure they will not show the snnipets anylonger to not give people a chance to expose the truth.

If you watch the entire interview, you would apologize to Rev wright for judging him. SO THE ABOVE SOUND BITE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH REV WRIGHT TO BEGIN WITH.

You have got to be kidding. Obama was called a politician. Really? So What!!!! You All (The Media, that is)can't find anything better to report on. This is really sad. I can't believe someone allowed this to go to print.

Because Barack was Wise enough to point out how unfair and uneven the questions were directed at him, they label him a "whiner" instead of someone who and rightly so, is defending himself from a "hit job". But, if he does this, this might expose the ones who are directing the barbs and hits so they distort with a multitude of voices, all saying the same thing to give it power (brainwashing)!

Clintons and Republican Spin Machine all aligned against Barack! Both are liars, distorters, engage in fear and smear... there is no truth from either of the Giants only domination... they have even colloborated together for greater strength, then one will overthrow the other if they get what they want!

Most of the corporate media, cable news, ABC, NBC are owned and Republican controled. They tell us what they want us to Hear, not what we need to Know to truly inform us as a society, which will give us power and aid in their demise!

They know Clintons have ailenated African-Americans so they are now actively courting their support while trying to elevate Hillary and deflate Barack. They MSM are not asking Hillary any of the pertinent questions, not on Iran, not on Mark Penn, although he is still on conference calls to this day, not on a pending lawsuit in California or anything elese that might damage her candidacy in the eyes of the people.

Rev. Wright...Has now made the case for why Obama would sit in Wright's Church all these years and listen to Wright shout down the UNITED STATES. He's just a politician soliciting votes from the church goers and showing the community that he's a 'Christian.'

It went down very simply. He's a politician, I'm a pastor. We speak to two different audiences. And he says what he has to say as a politician. I say what I have to say as a pastor. Those are two different worlds. I do what I do. He does what politicians do. So that what happened in Philadelphia where he had to respond to the sound bytes, he responded as a politician. But he did not disown me because I'm a pastor.

Rev. Wright words are being misquoted again. That is why the black population is going for Obama. Honesty is what matters.

Why is this even news? Obama is a politician. He is a politician running on a reform platform, but politics is the arena in which he and all of his colleagues and opponents operate. Politician is not a four letter word, it is a perfectly descriptive and might I add, linguistically correct term. People these days are way too soaked in soft, politically correct, euphemistic language to just use plain old english.

I find it interesting, that just before that comment, Reverend Wright was saying that he basically felt that good came out of this whole thing because, Obama as a politician was able to address the race issue in a broader context. His use of the word 'Politician' wasn't in any way denigrating, just that there is a different call between these two men. Obama is a politician. A good politician, in the field of politics. How is this a bad thing? McCain is a politician, Hillary is a politician, every senator and legislator, mayor and elected official in the world is a politician. You take the only thing that can be spun and miss the greater point of the whole interview. Reverend Wright has been villified unfairly by the press, by the Hillary campaign, and by the general audience which has chosen to say, tell me what to believe. Rather than do the hard work of finding out the facts for themselves. I'm ashamed of this article, and you for playing these same old games.

a whitewash. but the thing that i don't understand about rend~a~choir lite is his delivery. in those youtube snippets that we sat through again and again, the rhythm and cadence of his speech jumped out ~ a throwback to the kingfish of amos & andy fame. a show that blacks in the 60's had excoriated whites for watching because they felt that it had demeaned them. so is rend~a~choir now lampooning himself with all the shuck~n~jive of a kingfish!? perhaps only the devil knows....

YOU GO REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT! YOU ARE GOD'S CHOSEN ONE. YOU AND SENATOR OBAMA... I AS A CHRISTIAN STAND WITH YOU AND FEEL THAT WITH "GOD BEFORE YOU " WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU..? GOD HAS BUILT A FENCE OF PROTECTION AROUND YOU AND OBAMA... IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE." YOU "ARE THE MESSENGER!GOD HAS A STRONG MESSAGE FOR THE HIS PEOPLE OF THIS LAND.. "CHANGE " IS THE PLAN. OH TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD OUR "GOD" IS GOOD!. WE SERVE AN AWESOME "GOD". A GOOD "GOD". A JUST "GOD"..YOU HAVE A MESSAGE FOR GOD'S PEOPLE TO HEAR. OBAMA HAS A "PLAN" CALLED CHANGE". GOD HAS BOTH OF YOU IN HIS PLAN. LET GO AND LET GOD LEAD YOU WHERE BOTH OF YOU SHOULD BE.GOD GET'S THE LAST SAY SO...GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND SEANTOR OBAMA. STAND TALL AND STAY PRAYERFUL...

I don't think that Wright was disparaging Obama in referring to him as a politician. I believe he was pointing out the differences in their purpose. Even as Obama shouldn't be held liable for all that Wright says, neither should Wright be liable for all that Obama says. Wright was a mentor to Obama, but they are not the same person. Indeed, they are of two different generations.

Rev. J. Wright proved himself to be a first class demigod, not a fanatic. As he stated, white people focus on a narrow view of history, not on the undesirable history; but then he didn't mention the blacks that participated for profit in the slave trade. His narrow focus was the elemental, -We against them [white people] Hate, hate, hate white people for all the injustices in the world[ real or perceived] since the beginning of recorded time. A cunning fellow indeed.

NOW LET'S MOVE ON! THE MAN HAS BEEN PREACHING 41 YEARS, LISTEN
TO HIS SERMONS OR LEAVE IT ALONE!
I HOPE FOX NEWS LEARNED SOMETHING FROM MR. MOYERS, 1. HOW TO
CONDUCT AN INTERVIEW! 2. HOW TO ASK INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS?

The Rev. Wright was very wrong in timing, place , and excuses. His archaic diatribe is not for today, or for this country. Unfortunately, it has done a whole lot of damage to Senator Obama's effort to bring this great nation together. The man is living in another era, yet he pretends to be a prophet when he can not even recognize what is happening before his very eye. Obviously, he simply wanted to get attention and get the lime light on himself, away from Obama. Hey, whatever it takes right, Rev. Wrong, I mean Rev. Wright?

What about the audacity to say, the attack on him is an attack on black church. Get real not sociological, please. Why do not you stay with the theology and speak the truth in love, as the Good Book that you simply wave, not read contextually, teaches. Anyone who hits back at you is not hitting the black church. You dished it out from behind your safe pulpit and now take it on the street. In fact, there is no white or black church, but just the Church. Stop hiding behind women and children and throwing grenades of division, distress, and hate. Whatever good you may have done, you probably have thrown it away in your hot pursuit of popularity and competition for lime light or fifteen minute of fame. What a shame.

Mind you I am not a right winger or a left winger. I am not even a citizen of this great country like you, but black and a Christian perhaps than you can claim to be. Hence, I know first hand that America is far better place than any other country under the Sun, today. I know it is not heaven, most certainly not hell as you would like the world believe. Hey man, let us give this new generation a chance of living together and building their future. Let us not drag them down. Whatever happened they can read it in history book, without you regurgitating. Don't just project vise of false pride as an African American, but put forth the great virtues that comes from the amalgamation of the two.

Remember, Africa regardless of its abject poverty, has a virtue. And America regardless of her short coming, God has shade His Grace upon her, and you know that you are one of the prime beneficiaries of the abundance of that grace. If those of us who scavenge on what is falling from her table say God bless America, how dare you curse America, feeding at her table. How can you curse what God Almighty has blessed. Are you worse than Balaam? Excuse only satisfy the one that is making, stop making excuse and repent. The Lord forgive you for that, I will be praying for you.

May the Lord God continue to bless America the land that I love.
The land of the free and the home of the brave.

Sincerely

The reality is that Hillary's character is so void of any type of true integrity that she maliciously and angrily seeks this presidential election. Look at her face and her responses. Look at how she chases Barrack like a vampire, no mercy, no compassion, just anger. She comes from a place of White privilege that demands entitlement. It will speak to the type of president she will be. One that does not consider the value of the human soul or the dignity of the human being, even if they are Muslim, Iranian, etc. She will not be diplomatic and she will ignorantly destroy what’s left of this country if she is to become president. This country and most of its White Patriotic citizens have reasoned themselves out of a conscience. You don’t remember this country’s history? You don’t see the systematic disenfranchisement and suffering of people around you? Wright's remarks are coming from a place of watching Black people be oppressed and ridiculed for over 400 years. He has a RIGHT to motivate those who undergo racism and classism in this country, daily. The reason why you complain is because YOU DON’T HAVE TO! Barrack is going through the same rigor and row that any Black person has to go through in this country- fight against the nasty hatred of Whiteness and its privilege. If this country does vote for Barrack, it isn't that he wasn’t the best candidate- it's that America does not deserve him.

Unbelievable.......this interview confirmed my opinion of Bill Moyers. Years ago, I admired him, thought he was a decent man. Over the years, however, he has evolved into a totally different person. His ideas and public statements have become radical (albeit in a low-key sort of way) and divisive. Watching him sit there and never challenge the so-called "Reverend" Wright made me physically ill. I am very grateful that the interview happened; however, for all to see. There is no doubt that most journalists, reporters, etc., today are ultra-liberal. How could Moyers sit there and allow wright to act as though he was the victim of the conservative media uproar Moyers and Wright have both DONE THEMSELVES IN. WRIGHT is out for WRIGHT. I can't figure MOYERS out.

Why can't people hear all info with the same filters or lack thereof? While NOT an Obama support, I have defended "ideas" of him that are wrong, example, not only is he NOT the senator sworn in with the Koran, NO ONE IS SWORN IN WITH A BIBLE OR ANY OTHER RELIGIOUS BOOK!!! The only time a religious book is used is in the photos afterwards.
But why do the ones that think Rev. Wright is being vilified NOT AGREE that Pres. Bill Clinton is also? How can they call for the American public to see Obama and Wright as two seperate people, but them promote the "Billary" idea??? Why are questions of Barack's religion labeled RACIST??? Why are Obama supporters not willing to let him be connected to Tony Rezko, or Rev. Wright but attack Clinton to ANYBODY that has done anything you don't agree with??? How was Ferraro's comment that "Barack would be where he is if he were a white man" racist, yet the rest of the snippet was "if I HAD NOT BEEN A WOMAN, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ASKED TO RUN AS VP"??? Yet, noone complains that the journalist are racist in focusing how each candidate fared, Hillary with women and Barack with Blacks??? You call for truth vs political correctness, but no one will address that blacks are voting for Obama because he is black! Yet every non-white voter that does NOT vote Obama is a racist????
How do you judge a candidate to be best? I want to know what they plan to do, but MORE IMPORTANTLY I want to know what THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE. I want to know their voting record! I want to know who they have working on their campaigns!

OBAMA WAS AWARE OF WRIGHT'S COMMENTS PRIOR TO THE RELEASE OF THEM. I still can't understand how the poster claimed the "snippets were edited secretly"!!!???? Because a press conference was not held to witness the edit or what??? Clinton and republican joint venture to discredit Obama???? Did noone mind the media's chosen one status of Barack? Why is the mention of his middle name denote racism? WHY DOES ANY ? ABOUT OBAMA EQUAL RACISM??? Why can't I hear a question that's answer might help me decide he is the one I want to be my next president? I want to know what he truly thinks about the issues! I want to know what he thinks about every comment made by Wright that I don't agree with! The award to Farrakhan made by the newsletter/mag.church bothers me greatly! Not because I think "Obama is secretly a Muslim", but because I DON'T AGREE WITH FARRAKHAN, THEREFORE AM LEARY OF ANYONE THAT THINKS HE HAS ANYTHING WORTHY OF HEARING!!! After the TX primary, GMA's Robin Roberts asked Hillary if she thought the "3am phone call" NEGATIVE, ATTACK AD worked, thankfully Hillary stated it wasn't negative or an attack!!! Dear God, Why is it so horrible in these times to ask the American voters to THINK??? Supposing the answer would be her, is attacking him???? Hillary instead of Barack is a negative ad when he is only assumed to be the other option, THE NATION FORGOT THAT TX'S PRIMARY IS OPEN, THEREFORE THE 3AM PHONECALL AD WAS TO CHOSE BETWEEN CLINTON/OBAMA/MCCLAIN!!! Not just her over Barack!

I just wish we had the opportunity to know what we will be getting before we get it! I read the labels on food, I test drive a car, and compare computers to see which is best before I commit to it. Why am I expected to accept a candidate as Pres of the US because he says he wants change? Change to what? At least with Hillary and McCain getting hammered with their voting records, who their friends are, etc. I have some idea what I will be getting for the next 4yrs. I knew I didn't want Shrub anymore than I wanted his daddy Bush. With the horrible path this country has been driven I am nolonger in the mood for a surprise!

Instead of whining that people are asking ______ questions, why not just answer them??? We have already been dumbed down by the media no longer reporting what IS HAPPENING and instead WASTING TIME ABOUT WHAT MIGHT. ABC's World News Now has a segment called "The Skinny", they believe the American public was too stupid to find out what star has filed for divorce in the enquirer, or that we truly care!!! Sadly, a large segment seems to, but I am still longing for actual news, actual answers, and tired of being told what I should think about Obama or the latest picture of Miley.

They have not started to bring out the fact that Obama began his career with a law firm that was connected to Rezko and from the beginning was obtaining state and city money to repair slum buildings for the poor.
Obama's boss and rezko pocketed millions of the city and state money and one after the other the projects fell apart. The tenants suffered the buildings were sued by the city and then Obama used his influence to get them more city and state money.
Do not be suprised if Obama himself is not indicted for some of his activities with Tony Rezko over the last 15 years.

I am white, 76 years old, raised in Birmingham through grade school, and am a step-son to a Republican State Senator in Illinois for 14 years, until the Nixon debacle resulted in his loss.

I listened carefully to Rev. Wright's presentations to the NAACP convention and the National Press Club's meeting.

I found nothing he said to be offensive or "un-American". In fact, he added to my understanding of the black experience in American, the past and present injustices to blacks, and the shallowness of current American media coverage of the Democratic Presidential Campaigns.

I have rarely voted a "straight party ticket" - but I found the "Willie Horton" tactic to be so offensive and racially based that I refused to vote for any Republican in that election.

What I found in Rev. Wright's offerings was far more than "racist rabblerousing". I recognized the basis of Obama's faith in a positive opportunity in America, and a positive view of the future of America. While Wright may have focused on the past, Obama focused on the future, based on lessons learned from the past.

Hillary Clinton carries too much "baggage" for the White House. A fresh, optimistic and realistic point of view of the world and America's place in the world is needed for that symbolic residence.

Too much is at stake. I am for Obama. Hillary second. Nader third. McCain never.

And I pray for the media to respond to reality with intelligence and depth rather than the shallow pap being fed the public so far.

Thanks, especially to Bill Moyers and company, for so much enlightenment, intelligence, and honesty.

Perhaps we should collect Mr. Moyer's DNA and try to clone a few hundred likenesses to save the world's future.

I find it very troubling that a "pastor" has so little to say about what God is doing but alot to say about what his church is doing.
