The scoop from Washington

Fueled by book profits, Obama earned almost $7million since 2004, when he was elected to the Senate.

PHILADELPHIA, PA.—Fueled almost entirely by book profits, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and wife Michelle earned almost $7 million since he was elected to the Senate in 2004, with the couple reporting more than $4 million in income for 2007, according to returns released Wednesday.

The couple reported total 2007 income of $4,238,165, of which $3,943,378 was profit from his best-sellers ''Dreams From My Father'' his memoir reissued in 2004 when his political career started to skyrocket and ''The Audacity of Hope,” published in 2006.

The Obama’s paid $1,396,772 in federal taxes and donated $240,370 to charity in 2007.

Since elected to the Senate in 2004, the Obamas’ have seen their income shoot up, almost all from books. In 2004 the Obamas’ reported $207,647 in taxable income; $1.6 million in 2005 (including the book advance); and $983,826 in 2006/
Release of income taxes has become an issue in the presidential campaign.

Obama last month posted on the Internet his returns from 2000 through 2006 and challenged Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) to disclose her earnings since she and her husband left the White House. Clinton did make public those returns, showing earning of about $109 million since 2000. The Clintons have now released their returns for all their years in public life, going back to Arkansas.

Clinton’s campaign is now calling for Obama to release his returns to cover his entire public career, going back to his years as a state senator in Illinois in the 1990s. Even if the Obamas’ release them, there is likely to be no big numbers. Michelle Obama complains on the campaign trail they did not have the money to pay off loans for their Ivy League education until Obama’s book advance.

Somebody's got some 'splainin' to do.
That 'other paper' has some interesting stuff about from the Rezko trial about places with ocean breezes up the chemises, kapech?
Hey Jilly, tell Angellight and Julie Mack and the other kids travelin' with the messiah hoping to get a job in the white house that attacking HIlary right now is exactly what Howard Dean asked the campaigns not to do.
Hilary's been a class act.
Not so Obama. When he issues his W.O.R.M. statements (what i really meant) he ALWAYS blames Hilary for it making the news-- and it's always false! It is always a news story ahead of time.
He's a spoiler.
I think he's crooked and you don't wanna see it.
It would be a form of withdrawal from the messianic training the Obamas made you endure. (The campaign's looking more and more like a bad cult--the worse thing in the Mayhill Fowler piece was the bit where he said he wanted 'new people' to replace the party stalwarts. He doesn't mention anything about stolen elections. And he's a closet sexist who won't admit he likes his women a certain demure way).
Wake up.
Why you think he took that trip to the caribbean right about now--with all those secret service guys to hurry through the security? Taking cash? Documents about Rezko and god knows what?

Question: Which presidential candidate with connections to what looks like a mob trial took an unexpected trip to the Caribbean with Secret Service agents who could spirit himself, his family, his luggage outta da country?
A: Another question--cash or documents?

According to a 2007 Time interview Obama was in prep school while mom was getting her Phd and collecting food stamps. Of course you know that at that time he would be living with the (well off) grandparents not mom.

Sorry you loopy old gasbag but he LIED which of course means Michelle did as well.

For the Clintons, the post-presidential years have seen a change in financial fortune on an epic scale.

Through a book deal, paid speeches, business partnerships and investments, Bill Clinton catapulted his family into a rarefied level of personal wealth.

He collected nearly $52 million in income from speeches, and a total of $29.6 million from two books -- "Giving" and his autobiography, "My Life."

(Was Bill's book a tell-all or partial truths about "He didn't inhale again?"

For her part, Hillary Clinton earned more than $10 million from her memoir, "Living History" -- a sum that included an $8-million advance.

I won't bother to compare what the Obama's relatively recent fortunes are in contrast to the Clintons.

But people is it okay for the Clintons to earn millions many times over, call Senator Obama elitist, and expect the American voters NOT notice something is wrong with this picture? Seriously folks, is Hillary Clinton the person you want answering the phone at any time during any crisis that may arise involving the United States?
