Lynn Sweet on MSNBC on Clinton's "not have been my pastor" re Rev. Wright and her "mispeak" of facing Bosnia sniper fire

I consider it sour grapes coming from the good senator. Whether you disagree or agree with the pastor's views, this is America, and he has a right to say whatever he wants to say. I spent my summers in the south where Jim Crow was alive and well, and white congregations would move their church so as not to sit with blacks. I witnessed "white flight" in Chicago in the 60's. I've talked with many older hispanics in the southwest who would tell of how they had to sit in the basement of the church in order to listen to the sermon from the priest. Had not good christians of the past not been so afraid of co-mingling with other americans, we would not be having this discussion now. The shock, the awe, that is being displayed just shows how far we have to go in understanding the true meanings of the teachings of the Bible. Maybe if we went to the churches in our neighborhoods, instead of in the suburbs, we would have a better understanding of the frustration, and anger that exist in all of our communities. As my grandmother used to point out to me, the ones who shouted the most, were usually the biggest sinners. She could never tolerate "Sunday Christians".
Thank you.

Lynn--You were cautious in your answers to questions seeking analysis.
But it seems that MSNBC is trying to gin this up into a "battle royale" between Barack and Hilary.
Unless I'm mistaken.
The lead in to this piece does not show (MSNBC) the entire quote from Hilary Clinton. It begins with "Everyone will have to decide these matters for themselves. They are obviously very personal matters, But I was asked what I would do if he were my pastor..." about the Rev. Wright thing.
You were cautions I do not think the MSNBC anchor's phrase "And even though she decided to ATTACK that issue today...."
(That issue being the Rev. Wright's comments).
Was it an 'attack'? Clinton's sound bite (and that's the problem with those things without proper context, isn't it?) indicated that it was in response to a question.
The MSNBC anchor also said something about Barack which seems to encourage a 'strike back' battle comment from the Obama campaign," "Just minutes ago she said (quote) He would not have been my pastor." But that left out SO MUCH of her quotation and turns it into a direct attack which I am not certain it was given the longer quote (which I doubt was the full quote) from that press conference, or was it a q and a session with the press?
We don't know.
The anchor then continued "So Senator Obama hasn't responded to Senator Clinton's comments--he's vacationing in the U.S. Virgin Islands."
He needs to respond? Is this a duel?
This kind of bothers me. Obama's on vacation. It's like MSNBC wants him to 'come back and play' so they'll have a story line.

But one thing really bugs me--maybe I'm but wrong, but it seems like real unfairness at best inherent in the anchor's comment
"Is that a reveleation for you Lynn Hilary Clinton--human?"

Who cares about msnbc or cnn WE have been boycotting them and their sponsers. They are bias because they have always trailed Fox news because all of the Bush people went on Fox. They took a chance that they could slime candiates like John Edwards making fun of him with his 400.00 haircuts and that he was angry and unpleasant. Next it waS hILLARY WITH 45 MINUTES PER HOUR OF PUT DOWNS AND THE LAST 15 OF GLOWING PRAISE OF OB.tHE ARE EXPECTING OB IF HE COULD WIN TO BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO THEM FOR ALL THEY DID FOR HIM. ALL THEY HAVE SUCCEEDED IN DOING IS HANDING THE ELECTION TO mC cAINE. in THE MEANTIME THEY HAVE LOST HILLARY SUPPORTERS FOREVER. hOPE THEY GET WHAT THEY DESER4VE ESPECIALLY THE BIG BAFFOON CHRIS AND KEITH.

I recently watched Wright's comments online and then watched an extended clip of his sermon and it seems that people are really inflating this into more than it should be. I was surprised to see what all the fuss was about. After Tuskeegee you can see why people would be paranoid about the government purposefully infecting people. And there wasn't a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11. The American government has done some shameful things in the past. This all seems reasonable. For Clinton to respond this way seems cowardly. The admirable and brave thing would be to admit that Reverend Wright is a nationally respected minister who has done many good things. Perhaps Reverend Wright "misspoke"? In any case, the reactions to him seem distorted and narrow. Her reaction included. I think it is time for her to leave the Democratic party in peace to rally around the candidate that will be the nominee.

Misspoke? Really? Is it possible to do it FIVE times? She accused Sinbad of telling a joke and then went on to say she was sleeping. SHE WAS LYING. SHE HAS BEEN LYING. Now she is starting to get caught. She brought peace to Ireland? Lie. She was named after a guy that climbed Mt Everest 6 years after she was born? Lie. She was against NAFTA from the beginning? Lie. She had to duck sniper fire? Lie. This woman can't be trusted. Having someone that will lie and do anything to become president is reason enough not to vote for her. I know you can be objective Lynn. Let's give it a try with Hillary.

To those Obama fans / campaigners who are railing against Clinton for her Bosnia remark:

Note that Obama has also made a misstatement, in a more substantive way than Clinton. According to the New York Times, while campaigning in Iowa, Obama said that he had gotten legislation passed in the U.S. Congress regarding the reporting of leaks at nuclear facilities. In fact, he had not done so. The bill never even made it out of the Senate.

I chalk up these failures of memory to exhaustion and nonstop speaking on the campaign trail. While it's preferable that they not misspeak about their prior experiences, it happens. They're human.

I still say SHAME ON YOU HILLARY CLINTON, there is a Fine Line for me in Politics you do not cross and to use this Pastor Wright situation is one step too far! but does say everything about Hillary and her campaign. I stand firm that I can't be held responsible for anything my Pastor may or not say.

Hillary should realise that the People and Voter would like to see The TRUTH about her TAX RETURNS, and not Lies like Bosnia and Northern Ireland Peace Treaty Claims!

This thread in the news cycle shows once again that the race for head of the Dem ticket has gone on far, far too long to benefit short term or long term the principles that have lead people to support the party of the donkey. Hilary's Tuzla quote is really not as big a news story as it's being made out to be by the media or the Obama campaign.
Yesterday's NPR story, months, nay YEARS late in being aired for the sake of top of the ticket selection info finds Obama telling a much much bigger, and, much more intentional whopper that is integral to his ENTIRE appeal--"I was anti-war."
Says Don (Gon-yea) of NPR about Obama's statements--
"I was in the midst of a high stakes Senate campaign" --says Obama about the 'famous' 2002 anti-war speech. " Not true.
Isn't that his "Tusla" moment.
Listen to yesterday's NPR analysis of the 'famous' anti-war speech the candidate (not yet vetted in a national race) used to get ahead of Kucinich and Edwards so that he and HIlary are now our only choices.
To attack Hilary on mis-speaking on Tusla and not call Obama out (months ago!) for mis-speaking about his 'anti-war moment'--given the hypocrisy that he has continued to vote to fund the war while in the senate (a move that has cost him support in Illinois) is the height of hypocrisy. The NPR piece is a good piece that should have been done months, if not years ago.
It is beyond time for the two candidates to fold into one campaign. The junior Obamas could learn a lot from the senior Clintons about how not to tear this country apart--tear the liberal part of this country apart for the sake of personal ambition.
Hope it's not too late.

Miss V, please return the public funds that were paid for your English and grammar education; obviously those funds were a waste of tax payers money.

Easy to see already see Republican attack ads against Obama. First open with videos of racist wife, Michelle, saying she was proud of America "for the first time" because of her husband's presidential candidacy, next Obama explaining that he doesn't wear an American flag lapel pin or hold his hands to his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance because it is a "substitute for true patriotism." Then flash a clip of Obama explaining that his Caucasian grandmother was a "typical white person" because she uttered racial epithets and was afraid of black people. Finally, the coup de grace, pictures of Obama's angry, arm-waving preacher blaming the United States for 9/11 and shouting "God Damn America" to the rafters of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and preaching the U.S. government formulated the HIV AIDS virus to commit genocide against blacks. Even though Obama supposedly condemning Wright's shocking verbal assaults against the U.S and White Americans, even last year; Obama was the first to public ally demand Don Imus ouster for making a racially insensitive remark, and Obama continues to support Wrights racism and remains at the church for more than 20 years, he and Michelle obviously feels it’s a good environment to expose his young daughters too. His opinions and issues change with the weather, he is too UNSTABLE and proven he cannot make a decision or stay with one. If that’s not enough, then you start showing his terrible senate voting record, Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists, Obama dealings with one of his largest contributors, Exelon, a big nuclear power company and the deals he cut behind closed doors to protect them from full disclosure in the nuclear industry. Obamas record shows he infact did support the war when he got to the senate, voted twice against bringing America's troops back home. He voted for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater where Texas woman, was gang-raped by her co-workers at a Halliburton/KBR camp in Baghdad, His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal, if not suspended, keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come, but in his camp stumps touts he wants to bring troops home, but as we have witnessed his recent lies to voters like Canada he cannot be trusted on his word and lastly ALL the corrupt indicted financial backers, like Rezko…Get out of the race Obama you are destroying the democratic party!

MYTH: Barack Obama is running a positive campaign that will unite Americans.
FACT: Barack Obama and his advisers have conducted a divisive "full assault" on Hillary's character.
While talking a lot about the politics of hope, change and unity, Sen. Obama and his campaign have been conducting a relentless and singularly personal assault on Hillary's character. They have blanketed big states with false negative mailers and radio ads and have described Hillary and her campaign as "disingenuous," "divisive," "untruthful," "dishonest," "polarizing," "calculating," "saying whatever it takes to win," "attempting to deceive the American people," "one of the most secretive in America," “deliberately misleading,” “literally willing to do anything to win,” and “playing politics with war."
This "full assault" on Hillary's integrity and character has reached a new peak since Hillary's victories on March 4th. One of Sen. Obama's top surrogates equated President Clinton with Joe McCarthy; another called Hillary a "monster;" and his campaign manager held an angry conference call claiming that Hillary is "deeply flawed" and has "character issues." That's neither unifying nor hopeful. If Sen. Obama really is the prohibitive favorite some say he is, these negative attacks make absolutely no sense. Why would a frontrunner seek to attack and divide? If Sen. Obama can't unify Democrats in a primary, how can he unify Americans in a general election?

When forgivenss and healing where needed for the Clintons, they where given forgiveness and healing.

When, forgiveness and healing are needed for Wrights comments none are offer from the Clintons.

I will have to ask God for healing and forgiveness once again.

Hilary misspoke about Bosnia ( what sniper fire was she talking about). She stated she would not comment on Rev. Wright but a week later she did. She said she would release her tax return but has not. She was ok when FL and MI votes did not count, know she is a champion to get their votes counted. She said we pick her pastors just like we pick our spouses. She would have left Wright but stayed with Bill.Th I think Hilary would be the perfect president to complete the chaos. She is power hungry and will use anyone and say anything to be president. Let's become the laughing stock in the world. Hilary 08 .......

The Bosnia quote is clearly going to come back to haunt HRC if she runs against McCain in the fall. It's the war hero vs the imaginary war hero. Both McCain and Obama have their pastor problems, so while I expect surrogates to be slinging mud, I think McCain will try to take the high road on this issue, as he has thus far.

I also note that Obama always is careful to treat Hillary with respect and stress how much better she would be than McCain. Here's another instance where she could have been gracious and acknowledged the effectiveness of his speech, but I guess that's asking too much.

I pride myself on being fair minded but if Hilary wins I will not be voting in this election for either candidate.

Based on Hilliary comments about Pastor Wright, she would have left the church. Okay, let's accept that rationale as someone who is demonstrating personal integrity.

How many Catholic churches in America will be empty because a priest sexual molestation of children. This molestation in my opinion has more dangerous effect than the words of Pastor Wright who also served his country as a marine.

There are many good people in Churches that have pastors whose sermons can seem un-patriotic at times. I agree the church is heavily influenced by the pastor but the Church is not the pastor it is the people and the relationship they have with one other.

First and foremost the Church of Jesus Christ is a hospital for sinners, that includes it's pastor/leaders. A hospital is not a nice place to visit because you will see and hear things that are not pleasing. lets' all find or ask Hilliary for a recommendation for a nice 'sanitized' church that does not address one's sin or the nation's sin. That will be un-patriotic.

Actions speak better than words.

Mr Obama choose Mr. Wright as his spiritual teacher for 20 years and included Mr. Wright in his election staff, these are the actions of Mr. Obama. When shocking hate messages began to flow from the mouth of Mr. Wright on television, hyperbole spin was written for Mr. Obama distancing Mr. Obama from Mr. Wright. The weird thing is, some people actually believe the spin written by Mr. Obama’s election machine. But regardless what Mr. Obama says, he chose Mr. Wright as his spiritual teacher for 20 years and added Mr. Wright to his election staff.

If you make the choice to listen and learn from Hitler every week over 20 years, do you expect me or any other rational being to believe that you wouldn’t be or want to be influenced by Hitler’s ideas? And what does that say of your personal integrity if you chose American hating Mr. Wright, or Mr. Hitler as your guide in life?

And also consider recent announcement that the chief of the firm involved in the State Department’s passport breach is one of Obama’s adviser. And that Obama has been caught lying about Rezko, regarding the amount of money Rezko gave him, and that Obama still hasn’t come clean about his Rezko land deal. Or further, how Mrs. Obama makes a phenomenal $317.000 a month at a hospital in Chicago that is famous for turning away the poor, especially the black poor.

If Obama were to become president, what would stop Mr. Obama from appointing Mr. Wright to his cabinet? And after Mr. Wright’s appointment, if anyone complained they would be called racist. And it seems as if this strategy - that it is racist to criticize a black man - is already in effect as Mr. Obama can do anything corrupt with minimal impunity by the public or the press. But if Hillary so much as sneezes, she is taken through the laundry and hung out to dry and then beaten some more. Such bias treatment towards Mr. Obama because of his race is racial discrimination. And I believe another reason why Mrs. Clinton is unfairly criticized to such an extreme is because a handful of powerful men in the media can’t stand the idea of a woman for president – likely a libido thing.

We should have as our country’s leader someone with wisdom and knowledge, whose goal is the selfless betterment of the world. We should not elect someone with a personal agenda of personal power or select them because of the fashionably of their race or the preference for a gender.
Obama is not old enough or experienced enough to take on the role of the president, and if had simple wisdom, instead of a misguided desire for power, he would know this.

Maybe if Hillary had continued to go to her church in D.C. she would have heard her pastor defend Jeremiah Wright in the selectively small 3 minutes soundbites, taken from 3 sermons, preached every week, for 20 years totally 1,620 sermons.

Hillary ex pastor knows Jeremiah Wright personally, and says he is not the racist, hateful person the media wants us to believe Pastor Wright to be just isn't so......

Well, pretty interesting reading. First of all please stop watching all the brainwashing on CNN and FOX. They have their own agenda. Seems to me they are milking this story with HRC for all it's worth. She doesn't make mistakes like this. It's obvious that she completely screwed up. I'll bet my vote that there is footage out there of another landing in another country where this happened. Let's face it John Kerry openly admitted on CNN that his support was due to the new votes Obama can bring to the party. I am a stay at home mom and I see it all on all the news stations. The best was Obama refusing to put his hand over his heart during a pledge of allegiance. I cannot and will not support an unpatriotic candidate that can't honor the basics of living in our country. Not only will I not vote for Obama but I will defect to the Republican Party and campaign for McCain. All the democratic cronies in Washington are still fuming about former Pres. Clinton shutting down Congress. That is why they hold a grudge against the Clinton's. I get it, but Obama is anti-military. I am all for bringing the troops home, but I'm not ready to hand them pink slips. Obama will start closing military bases. Unemployment will go through the roof. Not to mention how delicate things are with Russia and China. We need our military strong right now because Mr. Bush stoked fires of hatred around the world. Haven't you ever had a situation where you were working so hard at your job that everyone around got jealous of your praise? Eventually those people will due anything to get you fired. A lot of countries out there want us fired.

One last thing. I saw this guy on CNN about 2 or 3 nights ago commenting on Rev. Wright's teachings and his church. He was a member of Obama's church. He said, "I hope all your listener's out there are writing this down." The man quoted Matthew 25 vs.35-39. He said this way the way to heaven. I shook my head. How could a fellow Christian mislead millions? Those verses speak of generosity NOT of salvation. John 14:6 says "I am the way the truth and the life. No one come to the Father but by me." Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is the way to eternal life. I was taken back that one of Rev. Wright's flock is so absolutely confused and would try to mislead millions. Taking that to the next level. I question Mr. Obama's basic understanding of the Gospel of Christ. He needs a new Church.

Stay at home mom--hope you're not home schooling! OMG!
Clinton did not shut down congress!
