HIGHLAND PARK, ILL.--Roll Call reporters Lauren W. Whittington and Matthew Murray scooped Thursday that former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) "is expected to announce that he will resign his seat in Congress effective later this year, eventually setting up a special election to succeed him, knowledgeable GOP sources said late Wednesday." Also in Roll Call “Obama Bashes, Courts K Street”

No link because Roll Call is a subscription site. Hastert previously announced that he will not seek another term, triggering a wide open primary for the seat.

Obamanarian Jeff Zeleny at the New York Times nailed the Obama campaign for failing to file complete expenditure information LINK

Re Hastert.....A special election will complicate the political landscape...the primary to nominate the general election candidates in the Nov., 2008 balloting will be held Feb. 5.
