With a big assist from her husband, Sandi Jackson, wife of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) ,Tuesday won a seat on Chicago's City Council. Jackson works for the Democratic National Committee in Washington as the deputy political director of training. The training worked.

The daughter-in-law of the Rev. Jesse Jackson will become alderman of the city's South Side seventh ward. She ran after Jackson Jr. decided to take a pass at challenging Mayor Daley, who Tuesday cruised to victory.

Sandi Jackson beat Ald. Darcel Beavers (7th), who was appointed to the seat by Daley after her father, William moved over to the Cook County Board.

The battle was a contest between Daleyites and the Daley critics, led by the Jacksons.

Here are the returns with about 85 percent of the precincts reporting...
Sandi Jackson 5,904 57.8%
Darcel Beavers 3,328 32.6%
Ron David 795 7.8%
