CODEL OBAMA AND OPRAH

Back at the Table Bay Hotel, where we are staying in Cape Town, I ran into Sen. Barack Obama in the workout room in the late afternoon.

He was exercising with weights, wearing a t-shirt and running pants. Though I now walk around armed with a still camera and video recorder—a newly spawned converged journalist—Obama said he preferred I not shoot him working out.

In all the new places CODEL OBAMA will be in the next few days—especially Kenya and refugee camps in Chad—it seemed arguing about photos and Obama’s zone of privacy could be put off for later.

I pondered all this as I did some pushups.

By the way...Obama told one on himself on Monday.
He said Oprah Winfrew offered him a ride on her plane to Africa.

She was on her was to Jo-burg to open her girls school.

``She said, ``you want to hitch a ride?''

``Said nope. we don't fly on private corporate. We would have had to reimbuse her....Couldn't afford that.''

Last year, after taking 23 subsidized rides on corporate jets, Obama said he would discontinue the practice and have his campaign fund reimburse companies if he took their planes.

FYI...for what it is worth...Obama flew first class with two staffers on KLM to Cape Town.

Obama said he was booked on Oprah timed to when his new book comes out, delayed for a few weeks but still supposed to be in October.

JUST WHOM IS PAYING FOR THIS MEDIA-BLIZTED P.R. EXTRAVANGANZA FOR MR.
SELF-ABSORBED OBAMA?? EVERYONE HAS BEEN FALLING ALL OVER THIS GUY FROM
THE GET-GO, TELLING HIM HOW GREAT HE IS AND THAT HE SHOULD RUN FOR
PRESIDENT. THE GUY NOW APPEARS TO BE RUNNING AND APPEARS TO BELIEVE THE
SUCK-UPS. HE HASN'T DONE A DAMN THING FOR THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND HAS
HINDERED ANY CONTROL OF THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE,
THIS RECENT ESCAPADE TO AFRICA IS AS STAGED AS STAGED CAN BE. HE'S NO
MORE AFRICAN THAN I AM SCOTTISH OR GERMAN! WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. PLEASE
REPORT THIS STORY FOR WHAT IT IS ..... A STAGED LOVEFEST / P.R.
CAMPAIGN FOR HIGHER OFFICE. AGAIN... WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS??????
BETWEEN CHRIS MATHEWS ON HARDBALL AND CONAN O'BRIEN WHEN HE WAS IN
TOWN, OBAMA IS LAPPING THE CRAPOLA UP AND ACTUALLY BELIEVING IT! VOTE
THE BUM OUT OF OFFICE. THE GUY IS USELESS.

How much does the Senator bench?

There is no doubt that Barack Obama's trip is getting a lot of pres attention, but that's because the media wants to cover him. I assume the trip is being paid partly by the U.S. Senate for the official portion and that the rest is coming out of his political and personal funds since he has been particularly scrupulous in his record keeping since becoming point man for the Democrats in the Senate on ethics.

I supported Dan Hynes for the U.S. Senate in the Democratic Primary of 2004 but I have been very impressed with Obama's performance since he took office, particularly his hard work on behalf of veterans in Illinois.

Those who hope he finds a way to run for President in 2008 believe he can win, lacking the polarizing effect and negatives that other candidates have. Obama has this great talent of being firm on core principles without alienating those whom he opposes or oppose him.

I think he's for real in spite of the hype and he has worked hard contrary to the previous posting by marin (not Carol I'm sure).

When will the highly visible AIDS activists address the behavior changes that will stem this disease? Throwing dollars at treatment is charitable but not the whole answer. Activists need to know that support will not be forthcoming until the necessary behavior changes occur.

You people are blinded by a do-nothing senator. What bil has he accomplished ? Has he taken Daley on over corruption? Why did he back a banker with organized crime ties in the democratic primary?
