After the Sept. 11 attacks, Vice President Cheney went dark with his schedule. His office would often only say he was in a secure, undisclosed location. This evolved into Cheney's staff rarely issuing notice of his travels, while almost every move President Bush makes is revealed to the public.
Cheney's Saturday accidental shooting of a 78-year-old hunting companion at a private Texas ranch would be news no matter what. But the intensity of the story grew because it was not generally known Cheney was in Texas and because Cheney's office declined to announce the bird shot incident, letting the ranch owner instead call her local paper.
On Tuesday, Cheney made a visit to Capitol Hill. Later, the office of the vice president released a schedule for Friday, when Cheney will address the Wyoming Legislature in Cheyenne.

Just a note that there could be legal problems with Cheney remaining Vice President with an accidental shooting. My comment to myself this morning was that if someone in Illinois, California, Hawaii, New York, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and New Mexico were appointed Vice President it would put people to work. The four or five co-vice presidents could split the Vice President's salary. They could save fuel and money and meet with people in the area not go to Moscow, Dublin, Berlin, Paris, Nairobi, Brasilia, Mexico City, Pretoria or Tokyo.
Just a note, I mentioned to a few people that the term dinosaurs is overused versus ammonites or trilobites or other extinct species. We talk far more about dinosaurs than other extinct species.
Similarly we fixate on strange things like having one vice president versus six or seven.
There are dozens of extinct species not just dinosaurs.
I would be willing to be Vice President, but that would continue the pattern of people with light skin of european descent being president or vice president. Also the pattern of white males. If we could find about 4 or 5 females and 3 males, we would make a good vice presidency. I could improve my wages, read the paper, listen to radio, watch the TV and make comments about the issues of the day.
Lynn, maybe you could serve too.
Just heard on WBEZ just now, "We are an empire, what do we do about that?"
We have a difficult job ahead of us, if our idea goes forward.
Let's pray Whittington heals, recovers and survives well!!!
Happy day after Valentine's day.
