One of the top juniors in Ilinois got her college commitment out of the way Sunday.
Wheeling’s 6-foot forward Ashley Wilson made an oral commitment to Purdue during a team trip to watch the Boilermakers play UConn in West Layfayette, Ind. Wilson just went over the 1,000 point mark last week during the Wildcats victorious run through the Warren tournament. And she is considered one of the most heavily recruited girls basketball players to come out of Wheeling, according to coach Shelly Wiegel.
Wiegel said Sunday that Wilson will probably play guard-forward in college, and that Purdue is the right fit for Wilson.
“I’m happy that she felt comfortable enough to make that decision, because I thought it was beginning to weigh on her,” Wiegel said.
