It's never a story we want to write. But as reporters, we have to do stories on the bad side of athletics.
Chicago Public Schools Director of Sports Administration Calvin Davis today suspended six Marshall players after they were involved in a fight with Milwaukee Vincent during the MLK Dream Classic Sunday afternoon at Young.
Those players are: Massachusettes recruit Sarah Rogers, Terranika Reynolds, Laquentra Lemons, Raven Gary and Benita Henry. They will sit for one game, Wednesday's first round Windy City playoff game with Julian. Alexis Forrest, who comes off the bench for Marshall, will have to sit for two games because technically she was one of the players that instigated the fight to begin with.
No one wanted to cover something like that. What makes it worse is that it was during an event that celebrated the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who preached non violence.

Those players should have suspended until the end of the year. The Public League needs to address this issue because there have been a number of these situations this year.
People need to stop acting like children and just play the game!
To me, whenever I watch any level of sports there is way too much chest pounding and thumbing. If I was a coach and saw this, the bench is where they would be sitting and that goes the same with fighting on the court.
well actually i dont think they should of been suspended for the rest of the season because they were only defending themselves.
It is time to pull back on High School sports. 1. Teams can practice only in season for that sport [one month before season] 2. College recruiters only get to talk to players after their junior year in high school with only one visit before senior year and one visit after senior season 3. Play the game without taunting and running up scores. This means no celebrations on the court.
Now it is time to pull back on College Major Sports [Football and Basketball}. 1. It is time to stop all of the players who do not belong in college should not be admitted. 2. JC ball is available and they would have to make grades to go their junior year on the four year campus. 3. There should be national standards for admission starting with HS grades of C average or above. 4. To many bowls and trips around the country during the season for Football and Basketball.
Let's talk about upsets. A big deal was made when Hope beat Marshall for the city title... but who has the last laugh now? Hope was upset by Montini in the Nazareth sectional and Marshall won theirs at Trinity. And for once, there is NO Hope but plenty of enthusiasm and excitement on the Marshall side.
Also, could Marshall be the first high school to have a boys and girls team win state championships in the same year? Reflect and discuss.
