Bogan is for real.
Or maybe Marshall is having a bad week, but I think Bogan is the real deal.
The No. 9 Commandos (1-2) lost their second home game in a row in overtime Monday afternoon, when Bogan beat them 73-72 in the New Trier tournament. Marshall lost to New Trier in double overtime last week Thursday, in another New Trier tournament contest.
No. 19 Bogan (2-1) celebrated at half court when sophomore Lynette Holmes made the winning shot with 0.3 seconds left to play.
Bogan had a 12 point lead in the third quarter, but Marshall came back and led by 7. Poor foul shooting doomed the Commandos and Bogan was able to outscore Marshall 9-1 in the final 11 seconds of regulation.
"Miss Gaters [Marshall coach Dorothy] has been coaching so long and she is so smart, she figured out our 2-1-2 defense and she overloaded and attacking. We didn't do a good job with our weak side help,'' Bogan coach Gary Bell said.
Holmes wasn't worried about losing that big lead.
"We had it in mind when we first came here that we were going to win. They got up because the crowd was enthusiastic and our enthusiasm went down. We've been waiting on this game for . . . forever.''
So with that, I think it's safe to say that it's not just Marshall and Young and Hope as the Big Programs in the Public League anymore. Bogan is shoving its way in the door.

Bogan might be good, but I think this is a down year for girls hoops. Only about five or so teams are any good. Everyone else is just a pretender. I'm sure 20 or so teams will rack up big win totals, but most of those wins will be against lousy teams. Good thing there are four classes this year, so more bad teams can make deep runs in the playoffs.
I was a boys fan until I got sick of the me-first attitude and all the hot-dogging. Switched to the girls game thinking I would see better fundamentals and better play. Instead, I just saw bad basketball. ...Missed layups, balls dribbled off feet, inability to grab rebounds cleanly, thus making for scrums on the floor. Just brutal stuff.
Hopefully, I'll be wrong and this will be a great year for girls hoops. But I doubt it.

Bogan is a great team. They have been overlooked and underrated for the past couple of years, until now. The program has gotten better each year. This year they are looking much better; more talent, more discipline and better coaching. The addition of Xavier Walton as assistant coach and having Jalisa Olive return has helped tremendously. Overall girls basketball is great. There are definitely more than 5 good teams in the Chicago area. Attending more tournaments and Jamborees, I have seen quite a few.
I am excited about this season, and my team "The Lady Bengals"

I think that Fred must NOT have been watching the right teams play. I think the girls league is full of excitement. There are teams like Bogan, Hope, Washington, Marshall, Whitney Young, Montini, Marion Catholic, Simeon, Von Steuben and Warren, just to name a few. I think that it is very important to watch a variety of games...if you start following the games you will see a lot of talent and some teams that you probably wouldnt imagine being as good as they are. Personally, Im a HUGE Bogan fan...and have watched the team grow from playful young ladies with potential to young women with class and lots of talent. I also want to say that Tenisha Wilson is definitely a player to watch this season. She has taken her game to another level both physically and mentally...she dominates and thinks..sometimes very rare in the league. I also think some players to watch include Navia Perkins, Brittany Cochran, and Jalisa Olive.
