Brace yourself, Northwestern hoops fans, you could be in store for a healthy dose of the color purple next season. The school's athletic department has posted four potential designs for the new basketball court at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Facebook and one of them definitely stands out. It features a predominately purple floor, with the area inside the 3-point lines painted white. The other three designs are much more traditional, but employ different logos at the mid-court stripe.
The winning design will be unveiled in mid-August.
The democratic approach could result in Northwestern joining the likes of Boise State and its blue football field and Oregon and its tree-themed basketball court in the rarefied air of out-of-the-box playing surfaces.
The purple-heavy court is drawing plenty of favorable reviews on Facebook, with many comments praising the unique look.
