Transportation Security Authority workers identified the weapon through X-ray screening, according to officials.
It's unclear if the gun was was in Miles' luggage or on his person.
He was booked on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and the St. Louis County prosecutor's office will review the case to decide whether charges will be filed.
Miles, 29, was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers with the third overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft. His last action in the league came in 2009 with the Memphis Grizzlies.
