juan-nicasio.jpgColorado Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio was taken to the hospital after he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Washington's Ian Desmond in the second inning of Friday night's game at Coors Field.

Nicasio lay on the field for five minutes before medical staff carted him off in a stretcher. The Rockies announced later in the game that the right-hander was resting comfortably and undergoing "a battery of tests."

Both teams showed visible concern for Nicasio after the incident and Desmond asked to be updated on the pitcher's condition repeatedly throughout the game.

Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said the players were told Nicasio suffered some type of "neck injury."

"Our whole focus right now in that locker room is Juan," Tulowitzki said. "We're obviously very worried. Our thoughts and prayers are with him. It's scary. We come out there and play baseball every day and some crazy things can happen."
