OK, maybe not everyone thought that.
But few expected them to stumble out of the gate to a 9-8 start.
Now we get a report that there is some dissension in that locker room, with players questioning if Erik Spoelstra is the right man to coach.
The most compelling item included in the report is the fact that the 40-year-old coach has taken a hard line with his stars.
"He's jumping on them," one source said. "If anything, he's been too tough on them. Everybody knows LeBron is playful and likes to joke around, but Spoelstra told him in front of the whole team that he has to get more serious. The players couldn't believe it. They feel like Spoelstra's not letting them be themselves."This only adds more fuel to those who think this bump was no accident at all, but rather a sinister omen of things to come.
Or something dramatic like that ...
Negotiations between the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter have come to a grinding halt and they will stay that was until the shortstop takes a great big swig of "reality potion."
A few days ago, it was reported that Jeter and his camp started the bargaining at an alarmingly high $23-25 million per year range.
Good luck with that one, Derek.
Losing their Cool-ey
Redskins fans, apparently disenchanted with their team's underwhelming showing in a loss to the Vikings yesterday, brawled in the stands.
Just going out on a limb here, but I bet alcohol was involved.
Soccer player killed
The body Carlos Mercedes Vasquez, a professional soccer player in Guatemala, was discovered chopped up and left in five plastic bags.
A National Civil Police spokesman said a note found with the remains indicated Vasquez was murdered for "messing with other women."
And finally ...
The plan was so perfect.
Steal a car off the showroom floor. It was going to be epic.
Until the car predictably ran out of gas.
