Southern Mississippi linebacker Martez Smith is paralyzed from the waist down, according to a source close to the player.

Smith and two of his teammates, Tim Green and Deddrick Jones, were shot outside a nightclub this weekend following the team's victory over 25th-ranked Central Florida.

All three are listed in fair condition, but the source told the Associated Press that Smith's spinal cord had been severed.

Police say they have arrested two women in connection with the shooting and are searching for a man.
Reed gets the boot
The Pittsburgh Steelers quietly announced they've parted ways with longtime kicker Jeff Reed.

The hair-coloring enthusiast is the franchise's second-leading scorer, but has been erratic this season, making just 15 of 22 field goal attempts.

Shaun Suisham will be entrusted with the kicking duties instead.

No problem with this

Scarlett Johansson has been named GQ's "Babe of the Year." I'm beginning to think some of these titles are wildly unofficial and less accurate than the BCS.

Own worst enemy

Qatar striker Fahad Kalfan would like a do-over on this. To make matters worse, his team lost this match 1-0.

Pony up
