New York Jets backup quarterback Erik Ainge has entered a facility to be treated for drug abuse, according a report from ESPN New York.
Ainge, who starred in college at Tennessee, previously missed a bulk of preseason workouts in 2009 to be treated for a prescription drug-related problem, according to multiple sources. He also served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's banned substance policy.
There is no official confirmation that Ainge is, in fact, facing a problem with prescription drugs.
"I am taking some personal time to address a non-football related illness," Ainge tweeted Monday. "Thank you for all the love, thoughts, and concerns. I love you all."
