Golfer Jim Furyk was disqualified from the Barclays after oversleeping and missing his tee time at this morning's pro-am event.Furyk, who is number three on the FedExCup list this year, snoozed past his 7:30 appointment to hit the links. Rules dictate that any player missing the pro-am -- except for injury or family emergency -- isn't eligible for the tournament.
Furyk said that he uses his cell phone as an alarm clock and that he awoke to a powerless phone this morning.
I believe Jim is a class act. He won't blame his caddie for a personal issue. Just like he didn't whine and ask for variance of the rule. Golf is golf and rules are rules. Whether you love it or think it's a good walk spoilt, there are concrete standards. Too bad the world is now so "relative." I hope Jim laughs at this, uses it to capitalize on some new, creative sponsorship and does well wherever he plays.
