The best way to win a basketball game -- at least from what we've learned from kid-friendly sports movies through the years -- is a slam dunk at the buzzer.
In real life, it rarely happens.
But for Josh Smith and the Atlanta Hawks, the stars aligned properly last night for such an event against the Orlando Magic.
After Vince Carter hit a deep three-pointer to tie the game at 84, Atlanta decided to give it the old college try and not call a timeout. Joe Johnson's mid-range jumper was off, but Smith heroically flew in out of nowhere for the game-winning jam.
The dunk also had some tangible benefit outside of making "SportsCenter's" top plays list. The win clinches a playoff spot for the Hawks.
With style.
