The publication issued an e-mail to media outlets Monday saying, "An article in the April issue of Golf Digest incorrectly reported that President Obama made a personal call to Tiger Woods to offer encouragement. Our mistake was due to a misunderstanding between the writer and a trusted source. We regret the error."
Originally, the piece said that Obama and Bill Clinton had reached out to Woods. The miscue has since been fixed in the online version of the story.
The White House denied any such contact on Sunday, spurring the magazine's clarification.
You'll recall that the January issue of Golf Digest featured a photo composite of Obama and Woods on a golf course with the headline "10 Tips Obama Could Take From Tiger." Clearly, it had gone to print before Woods' November auto accident.
