13-year-old QB David Sills verbally commits to USC

National Signing Day on Wednesday was a jamboree of educated guesses, with colleges across the country crossing fingers and praying that their prospects pan out. It's all about trying to decipher how stud high-schoolers will assimilate to the college game.

Or, in Lane Kiffin and USC's case, how a 13-year-old will.

Kiffin's crew received a verbal commitment from the barely-teenaged David Sills on Thursday.

And, according to his personal coach Steve Clarkson, it's not such a crazy or premature move.

"His skill set is off the chart," Clarkson said. "I've never seen anyone at his age do what he's been able to do."
The six-foot Sills impressed the new Trojans coach via an Internet video of his highlights after Clarkson talked up his tremendous upside potential. A whirlwind romance culiminated in Thursday's verbal commitment.

"I'm as shocked as anybody," Sills' father said. "I was just talking with friends yesterday about what it'll be like four years from now when David goes through the recruiting process. I never expected this to happen so soon.

"But David's always wanted to go to USC. I mean, is there a better place to play football in the country? How can you pass up the best offer you're ever going to get?"

A lot can change before Sills enters college in 2015, but if he does pan out, you've got to respect Kiffin's foresight.
