Toronto Blue Jays infielder Edwin Encarnacion was released today from a Miami hospital after suffering facial injuries caused by a firework mishap.
Encarnacion sustained first- and second-degree burns to his forehead and right side of his face when his New Year's Eve firework display in his native Domincan Republic went awry.
Luckily, the injuries were minor in nature. Encarnacion said he's been advised by doctors to stay out of the sun for a week.
In 85 games with Cincinnati and Toronto last season, Encarnacion hit .225 with 13 homers and 39 RBIs.
