Boston Celtics' Glen Davis swears at a heckling fan

glen-davis.jpgBoston Celtics forward Glen Davis may be looking at a fine or a suspension after yelling an expletive at a heckler during last night's road loss to the Detroit Pistons.

The fan repeatedly called Big Baby "fat boy" and encouraged him to lose some weight. Bonus points for creativity were not awarded.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers called Davis' behavior "unacceptable."

"I'm upset that we lost, people call me names, but that's part of the game. If you win the game, it keeps a lot of people quiet," Rivers said.

Both the Boston radio and television broadcasts picked up Davis' swear.
The fan, Scott Zack, filed a complaint to league security, according to a report. He'd apparently been warned about heckling Davis earlier in the game.

Manly work.

Sure, Davis shouldn't have stooped to the heckler's level, but secretly, I kind of like it.

We've all sat next to the guy at the game whose trite insults get old after about the fourth time they open their mouth. If you're like me, you kind of wish the massive athletes they're challenging challenge them back at some time.

If you can't take it, don't dish it out all game.

Hey Koster, how about you check your grammar before writing an article. It's not like you get paid to write this or anything

What's the big deal? All the dopes outraged by this have and will say worse. I wish big baby would have pounded that loser who then went crying to officials. If you can yell it, than take it too or shut up and watch the game.

Sure Big Baby should have shown more maturity and restraint, as being a professional athlete has and will continue to expose him to situations like this. But come on, when does it get out of hand? If Mr Zack was to heckle a normal guy on the street for 48 minutes, he'd either get sued or eata knuckle sandwich. Just cause he's hacklinga professional athlete doesnt make it all right. We all have to practice some common decency to each other. Athletes are people too. In the end I think Big Baby shouldve informed security first to get the guy to reign it in a bit.

Please dont over-punish the NBA players. If the league punishes big baby, that would signal a bigger more systemic problem with the NBA. We have all seen in the recent years the NBA acting like a slave owner. The fine for Sheed, and Doc rivers, are just very tiny tips of the iceberg. The league has a monopoly and this should end. There has to be some checks and balances.

For Davis, if they fine you, please dont feel bad, the fan should be banned from attending any games for that irresponsible targetted behavior.

First of all points would not be rewarded they would be awarded. Second, the fan is a moron for filing a complaint after he was the one that started it. Third, Big Baby (has there ever been a more appropriate name for a person involved in a situation such as this?) should be fined for the use of such a vulgar phrase in public. If he had any class or maturity he would not be talking like that at all.

Can someone explain why the fan, having been warned, wasn't booted the next time he opened his mouth? Jimbo

What Davis did was hurl a typical thuglike sexual epithet to a fan, nor merely swear. Seems to be the only language losers like Davis are capable of. Davis should be punished big-time. Maybe a 5-game suspension accompanied by a six-figure fine and being ordered to attend a class on how to speak articulate English would work. Probably not though. Thugs are hard to teach.

The last time I checked, the only "professionals" you could get away with treating this way would be waiters and bartenders... they are used to people being ignorant idiots. Big Baby is a professional b-ball player... not a service industry employee or concierge. He should not have to put up with that type of behavior because he certainly won't be getting a tip from punk-boy Zack. I am getting sick and tired of "America the Offended" whining and crying because an adult wants to think this is even an "event." This is so much ado about nothing. Stay home until you can act like a man, Mr. Z... and until you can take it as well as dish it out.

Hey Luke, how about you put a period at the end of your sentences before criticizing another's grammar?
