Manny Pacquiao lives up to "Mexicutioner" name with La Bamba performance

While promoter Bob Arum continues to work with Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines to come to terms on the heavily anticipated bout with Floyd Mayweather, Jr., it seems the pound-for-pound most feared man in boxing is passing his time in stride.

Pacquiao has earned a reputation as the man where Mexican fighters go to die. As his dominance has grown, he's bested Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Mexican-Americans Oscar de la Hoya and Chicago's own David Diaz. If that weren't enough, now he takes on Richie Valens with this karaoke take on "La Bamba," caught at TMZ.

Of course, the seven-time champion and Filipino national hero hasn't just been singing as the Mayweather booking develops. He's also in the midst of his second run for Congress. filed his candidacy to represent the southern province of Sarangani under his own People's Champ Movement, the local Commission on Elections office said. He'll run against Roy Chiongbian, brother of the incumbent who due to term limits can't seek re-election.

In a country that literally shuts down when Pacquiao fights, it's a wonder he lost the first time.

And about Pacquiao-Mayweather? March 13 is the date everyone's circling after Roy Jones' stunning loss in Australia to Danny Green as the Vegas date is now open.

Mayweather can run but he can't hide from Manny Pacquiao!

I'm a pacman fan, but if team pacman doesn't agree to a March 13 fight, it looks bad on them. You can't say Mayweather is hiding since he apparently agrees to March 13.

I can understand that March 13th may be too soon and Manny needs time to heal. BUT, it was Roach that was quoted to have said that the Mayweather camp would be the obstacle in the expedited superfight because they would NEVER agree to March 13th. It looks like Roach was wrong and he had to put his foot in his mouth because now he apparently is saying it's too soon and Manny needs time to heal.

If the fight doesn't go on because Manny demands more than a 50/50 split (which appears to be the rumor), then Manny would look like a hypocrite. It was Manny that had called Mayweather out by saying that a superfight between them wouldn't happen because Mayweather cares more about being a businessman than being a fighter.

mayweather agreed because he know paquiao will not be ready on march 13, its too soon for paquioa to fight, his body need to heal. especially his ear. plus they need to make a game plan. because mayweather is not easy. as we all know his style is boring, he doesn't engage in a fist fight. like a real boxer. roach is a smart coach. no need to rush let them wait.

I do believe that Manny needs a little bit time to settle his personal life after the next big fight. IF Manny will fight on March it will not be a focus game for him better by May. Take note Floyd had been fully rested from his fight with MArquez.

I agree with the above statement. March 13th would be too soon for the main event to take place. First off, Manny Pacquiao needs time to heal from his great victory against Miguel Cotto on November 14. Four months is just not enough time for the body to heal and again not enough time to develop a gameplan against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Second, the event is too close to the upcoming elections in the Philippines. According to Philippine government policies, Pacquiao would be ineligible to run for office if he were to agree on the March 13th fight. So this would of course jeopardize Manny Pacquiao's candidacy. If Team Pacquiao were to agree on the March 13th date, that would not be the smartest choice and would be of Mayweather's advantage. The smartest choice is to agree on the fight and push the date at a later time but no longer than a year. By disagreeing to the March 13th date does not mean that Pacquiao is a coward or scared, it just means that he is the smarter and better fighter. To the general public, please don't rush the pound for pound champion, this fight will happen eventually. And at the end, Pacquiao will prove to the all, that he is the pound for pound boxing champion of the world.

I would think March 13 is too soon to have the fight also, BUT it was Roach that stated March 13 would probably be Manny's next fight. Mayweather's team didn't propose March 13. Apparently Roach stated that he himself was aiming for Yuri Foreman, because Mayweather would never agree to fight on March 13.

If Manny needed time to heal then why would Roach say Manny could fight Yuri Foreman on March 13? It's probably because he knows that Yuri Foreman is not too much of a threat. Isn't that doing exactly what a lot of people have been criticizing Mayweather for? "Hiding" from the better opponent and taking on a lesser opponent.

It appears that Roach got caught in a bluff, and he doesn't look so smart now.

I love to watch Pacman fight and I think he's a great fighter. I think Roach is a good coach. But they are human and they messed up here (at least Roach did).

I wouldn't want them to "rush" a superfight, but any person can see that there's some hypocrisy here. I'm just pointing it out.

Just another thought... what if the superfight does not happen in March or May and Manny wins the election??? Shouldn't he be concentrating on his new role??? Being an elected public official of the people is something that shouldn't be taken lightly. You can not be a part-time congressman and full-time boxer preparing for a Mayweather fight. He needs to choose his priorities.

Who cares what others will think if Pacman and Roach doesn't fight on March 13. Some people are so fanatic that they would rather have a fight even though Pacman won't be a 100%. Just to serve their needs to see a Paman-Mayweather bout. I say, let Pacman decide when he wants the fight, and not be dictated by anyone including his fans. This promoters just want their money. Who cares what any idiot persons and any sports newsman thinks and say. Let them WAIT! Let Mayweather wait, when will Pacman decide to have the fight. Besides, He needs him more than Manny needs to fight him. He doesn't even carry a tittle belt for Manny to win.

it looks like the point Billy is making is that some people are "so fanatic" they think that pacquio walks on water, and he does no wrong. In this case it's Roach. He's supposed to be a master at mind games, but that does not appear to be the case here because mayweather agreed to his bluff. Some people or "so fanatic" and sensitive when their guy gets criticized that they'll defend an obvious wrong move with illogical replies.

Of course the fight will happen no matter what are opinion is. BUT you can't say mayweather is the one stalling the negotiations if he apparently agrees.

Apparently Pacman cares because today's rumors indicate Pacman is agreeing to fight March 13. Nice!

All i have to say to all of you listen to floyd in this conversation with rugged man and see how fraud he really is...

All I have to say to all of you is that Floyd will never be great. He will become like Rocky Marciano who went on retiring with a 49-0 record. Pacquiao will be compared to all time great ali. People listen to floyd in this conversation with rugged man and see how fraud he really is...

I heard that interview before and I agree with Ra in that interview. But the point is that Team Pacquiao shouldn't get caught up in all the same politics that Mayweather has been criticized for. If pacman decided to postpone the fight and make mayweather wait, that jeopardizes the fight from ever happening. If he wins the election in May, he'll be busier with new responsibilities. How would he have time for training then? If Roach got his way and they set up a fight with Yuri Foreman, that would be a waste of time because he's not up to par with pacman. All these things are exactly the same type of garbage that PBF is known for. Pacman is better than that. It looks like Manny is backing up his words by agreeing to a March 13 fight, which is awesome. Now the best will be fighting the best, and that's the way it should be.

I agree too. March is too soon! Manny needs more time to heal, plus he'll be too busy in January coz of the new year celebrations. Come on, Manny, listen to Roach!

Manny agrees to March 13 because he's tough. He's proving he doesn't need to hide. 4 months is enough time for him to heal and train. he's agreeing to march 13 because that's the best thing to do. the ball is now in pbf's court. if somehow pbf turns down the offer, pbf will prove to be the coward.

Manny could retire after he wins on March 13 and put all his time into his congressional pursuits. go manny!

Pacman is first of all a fighter, number two a fighter, third and foremost a fighter. A fighter will fight whatever it takes to win. That's what he has been since he was born from poverty up to his now tough road to fame. He will fight Mayweather even if strategically Mayweather has pulled the first win on this upcoming war by alluring Pacquiao to a fight so close from his previous fight especially with the beating also Pacquiao took from Cotto. Though, Mayweather won this first stride in the war, Pacquiao is not an easy opponent. They are both smart, can change up their game during a fight and relentless. In Pacquiao's last fight with Cotto, Pacquiao could have ended the fight in a more dramatic way but he eased off from round 7 and on... he only asserted himself to Cotto when Cotto tried to rally back. With Mayweather as the opponent they might be toe toe to this all the way since they are both work horses but Pacquiao will have the edge in tougher mentality (he's always the smaller man in his previous fights)just as fast, will hit harder and certainly against Mayweather will not ease off even as a gentleman of the puglistic game. This will be Pacquiao's best fight to come and will be the tallest short man in Boxing sport ever lived. (period)

While Pacquiao has signed the contract, I have a suspicion that Mayweather will not sign. I don't think the fight will take place.

PacMan The Destroyer WIll fight on March 13 and he WILL beat the shit outta Gayweather. It might be a boring fight being that Gayweather is a "defensive" (boring) fighter, but he will lose. He's no match for the typhoon from the Philippines!!! PacMan's gonna swarm Gayweather and beat the black outta him!

Don't worry, my Pinoy brothers (this coming from a Mexican), the Bruce Lee of boxing WILL prevail and all haters will be silenced once and for all!

Floyd wants the March 13 date with Manny because at the back of his mind that would be too soon for Manny especially with the holidays coming. It would be impossible for Manny to get his acts together in the first two weeks of January and begin training making it almost impossible to train qualitatively. The response of Manny almost certainly shock Floyd. And it is here where fun begins! It is almost certain that Floyd will now insist on fighting Manny at a higher weight class (154 lbs? and 10 oz gloves) as reported by some writers. Floyd will incrementally add all sorts of conditions before the signing of the contract just to make it harder for Manny and easier for him. Don't ever be fooled by Floyd on these matters. In as much as I would love to see the fight, until a signed contract is done, there is still no fight. So for all the fans of the sport, I would suggest we all hold our collective breath until (not Manny) Floyd signes the contract.
