ESPN's Adam Schefter says Johnson will now go to waivers.
Johnson returned from a one-game suspension today, one imposed after he called out Chiefs coach Todd Haley and making several homophobic comments.
Disgruntled KC fans had gone so far as to circulate an online petition to keep Johnson from surpassing Priest Holmes as the team's all-time rushing leader.
It looks like they got their wish.

I have been a KC Chiefs fan for many, many years going back to the Wolfpack days. Today I live in the Pacific Northwest and my car, travel trailer and clothes still reflect my love for the Chiefs. Thank you, thank you, management for getting rid of Larry Johnson - a blight on our player pride. He should have been let go long before now. His remarks against Dick Vermeil should have been the catalyst...but, as the saying goes, better late than never!
