On his Web site, Enrique Santos said he was stopped on the red carpet leading to the slugger's swank Miami Beach party by a publicist who accused him of making fun of Sosa.
Um, what exactly did he think was going to happen?
Sosa's suddenly lighter face has been burning up the Internet and has compelled columnists to weigh in on issues that aren't exactly skin-deep.
It's one thing to use the pictures as a jumping-off point for a broader topic -- even if many say it's a stretch -- but a totally different thing to pull a prank like this and expect anything different than what happened.
First off, it's Sosa's party. Did Santos really think he'd be received positively?
Probably not, and the attention he's receiving in the wake of the incident was most likely his ultimate goal.
Also, who wants to rub elbows in a social setting with someone on blackface? May as well wear a sign that says, "I don't get life."
Santos, it seems, is twisting and contorting the story, telling the Miami Herald, "I asked [Sosa's publicist], `How many women in here are wearing makeup?' but she wasn't having it," Santos told us. "Was I not white enough for Sammy's party or have the millions gotten to his skin -- I mean head?"
I'm not buying this as social commentary, but rather as a really cheap ploy for attention done in poor taste.
Anyone out there want to defend him?

Obviously you don't know Enrique, because if you did you would understand this.
This is the same guy who got Fidel Castro on the phone by posing as Hugo Chaves. Once on the phone Enrique cussed out Castro and Castro cussed back. Enrique was fined by the FCC for that prank.
On his return to a new Miami radio station, Enrique posed as a Cuban refugee floating in to Miami on a raft. News helicopters were in the sky and when he hit land he ran before the police could get there. All the news stations were broadcasting this "Cuban refugee" live.
Enrique is just a funny guy and a prankster. If you have ever been around him, you would realize that you have never met anyone as funny in your life. He doesn't need the attention, he's already the biggest latin D.J. in the country. He's just being a clown and having a good time, lighten up.
I agree with the comment above. He was being a jerk, BUT, it was obviously meant as one of Enrigue's over the top pranks/bits.
PS. We should really stop referring to this as "blackface" that phrase has a deep, disturbing and very specific past. Wearing dark makeup to mock someone for bleaching their skin is not the same as wearing "blackface." Maybe this writer is the one who "doesn't get life."
Same here. Enrique is and always will be putting things out there in a funny way. Sammy Sosa is the one that needs to take a joke.
You should also check the "Black and White" song adaptation for Sammy. Pajuo!!
why can Sammy Sosa lighten his skin and Enrique not darken his? Knowing Enrique this is totally his style and is not bad taste is just funny... his actions are just a reaction to what Sosa did, he's the first to be racist!
