Bears ballboy Darryl MaGee outran Lions kick coverage during Johnny Knox return

Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox electrified the Soldier Field crowd Sunday with a 102-yard kickoff return to begin the second half. But it's a uncommonly speedy ballboy who's continuing to raise some eyebrows in the aftermath.

The as-yet-unnamed ballboy kept pace with Knox as he raced down the field, even outpacing some members of the Lions' kick coverage team.

The 24-year-old, identified by ESPN 1000's Waddle & Silvy Show as Darryl MaGee of Champaign, called into the show this morning. He told hosts Marc Silverman and Tom Waddle that he found out from friends that a highlight of him keeping pace with Knox was blowing up.

On his Twitter account MaGee said, "Man I'm all over the internet and ESPN now!!!!! I  definately [sic] didn't expect this!":

Yes I’ve seen this. Maybe he wasn’t in a dead sprint on the first part of that play. I could outrun a bunch of pro athletes not wearing pads and given a 75 yard head start.

And that is absolutely as fast as that guy can run… down a sideline and not across the field. I wish he would have run into somebody because that would be a highlight worthy of replay for years.

Johnny Knox is the fastest of them all...he will continue to amaze fans and coaches and fellow players all season!

Looks to me like he got smoked. He goes from dead even to 10 yards behind in about 3 seconds.

No, he did not outrun the Lions coverage or Knox. Come on man, watch it again.

THE CAMERA CAN PLAY TRICKS ON YOU, THANK GOD THE BALLBOY DIDN'T GO OUT THERE AND PICK THE BALL UP WHEN JOHNNY KNOX THREW THE BALL DOWN AT THE 1 YARD LINE, THAT WOULD HAVE REALLY BEEN SOMETHING!

It sounds like everyone is jealous of Darryl MaGee. He ran track at Illinois and he stayed caught up with Johnny Knox... O yeah and he was carrying 3 footballs while running down the side line. Maybe everyone should admit that this kid is fast. No one ever said he was going to play in the NFL, they just said he is not your average BALL BOY.

Ill give the ball boy his props. Yeah the kids not in pads, but johnny knox isnt carrying three balls either. Two Way street...your arms are very important when you run. he may not be as fast as johnny knox but he can move.
