Former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz thinks Notre Dame will play in BCS title game

lou-holtz.jpgESPN college football analyst and pep-talk enthusiast Lou Holtz thinks that Notre Dame will play in the BCS title game.

Admittedly, this is a little old, but its ridiculousness gives it a pretty long shelf life.

Now, Holtz's love for the Irish is pretty transparent and golden-helmeted ones have a pretty easy schedule. But after going a combined 10-15 over the past two years, does anyone really believe that they are going to be playing for a national title come January?

Well, besides Holtz, who cracked these eggs of wisdom:

"I personally believe, if you ask me, 'Who's going to play in the national championship game?' I'd say it's going to be Florida and the University of Notre Dame," Holtz says. "They return 11 starters on offense. They return all three running backs, the two best wide receivers, they have a great defense coming back."
And, for the video proof:

Anyone drinking the Kool-Aid ol' Lou is brewing?

Lou Holtz's prediction is akin to your Dad telling you you're good at baseball in Little League when you're clearly the worst on the team.

With Lou's affinity to the Irish - why is anyone surprised at his prediction. But Kyle, you and anyone else who think the Irish will have another down season are drinking sour kool-aid. They will be vastly improved - will it get them to the NCS - IMHO - they could go 12-0, but the poll voters will still keep them out of the game UNLESS they beat USC soundly and run up some other high scores - all a possibility.

One thing I do disagree with Lou on is that Florida WILL lose twice and not be in the NCS - mark that one down. Tebow being proclaimed by most in the media as the best QB-ever in history put a curse on this very talented guy - he will have a good NOT great 2009.

Can't get enough of Lou Holtz?

I hate ND they should win a few more games with that divison 2 schedule. How can a major college team play such a weak schedule. ND is a joke of a team that gets way too much attention. Weis should have been gone if ND were playing by the same rules they did with Coach Ty but we all know that ND.

Coach Holtz may be a little out of focus with predicting that the Fighting Irish will play in the BCS Championship Game, but let's remember that it's not impossible that they can find their way into a BCS bowl.

The Fighting Irish start the season ranked 23 and play an insanely soft schedule, which yes they still have to get through, but if they finish 8th in the BCS rankings, they will earn an automatic BCS berth. If they finish lower than 8th but still in the ballpark, like 12th, you know they will receive consideration as an at-large team, as many of the hopeful BCS busters have much tougher schedules this year. A 10-win ND team will be good news for the BCS, and I wouldn't be surprised if they find a way into the BCS this year while Boise State and the Mountain West are left out.

I say that, but I will be rooting for Nevada to pull off a huge upset week one. Go Trojans, ugh, freshman qb, erhm Good luck, Trojans!

You go, Lou! It's about time somebody stood up for the Irish. Prediction: Notre Dame 31 Southern Cal 17.

By the way, why are people talking about Notre Dame playing USC. The Irish haven't played the University of South Carolina in years.
