Jim Brown says Tigers Woods should be more active on social issues

jim-brown-tiger-woods.jpgJim Brown and Tiger Woods have each brought a level of domination to their respective sports that may never be paralleled. Both were pioneers of sorts, breaking down barriers -- real and otherwise -- on their way. But, the Hall of Fame running back recently reiterated his opinion that Woods doesn't do enough when it comes to enacting social change.

In a soon-to-air profile of Brown and legendary basketball star Bill Russell -- to air on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, Brown says he is disappointed in the golfer's lack of passion on social issues.
"You know what's so interesting about Tiger to me?" Brown said. "He is a killer, he will run over you, he will kick your ass. But as an individual for social change? Terrible. Terrible. Because he can get away with teaching kids to play golf, and that's his contribution. In the real world, I can't teach kids to play golf and that's my contribution, if I've got that kind of power."
Last year, Brown accused Tiger of being too politically correct.

JIM IS RIGHT AND TIGER IS RIGHT AS WELL, TIGER ISN'T HIS FATHER, HE IS MORE MELLOW, HE IS IN A SPORT THAT HE UPLIFTS, BUT HE DOESN'T SEE OTHERS THAT LOOK LIKE HIM, I SAW THE DOCUMENTARY UNEVEN FAIRWAYS, SO I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT TIGER WOODS ISN'T NAIVE ABOUT THE MEN WHO SET THE TRAIL FOR HIM TO DO WHAT HE DOES.
JIM BROWN COULD PLAY SPORTS AND BE A SPOKESPERSON FOR CIVIL RIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME, TIGER DOESN'T HAVE THE MAKE UP FOR THIS, I THINK WHEN HE IS IN HIS FORTY'S HE WILL BE ABLE TO BE MORE VOICEFUL!
MY HUMBLE OPINION, IS WHEN YOU PLAY TEAM SPORTS YOU CAN BE MORE VOCAL, BUT WHEN YOU PLAY AN INDIVIDUAL SPORT LIKE TIGER, YOUR FOCUS HAS TO BE ENTIRELY ON YOUR GAME, OR POOF NO MORE TIGER!
I DO UNDERSTAND WHERE JIM BROWN IS COMING FROM, BUT I ALSO UNDERSTAND TIGER'S SITUATION AS WELL!
IT'S A CATCH-22!
TWO VERY ELITE ATHLETES, THAT WE MAY NEVER SEE AGAIN!

Tiger has the money and power to make real change in this country. Jim Brown is right. Tiger does very little to make an impact on social change and justice. It's quite sad honestly. Tiger has made 3 times what Jim Brown will ever make, and Tiger is a corporate icon. This me first attitude is why the country is in shambles now.
