Update: Father of fan that Big Baby shoved is very unhappy

big_baby_davis_push_fan.jpgIt seems the talk about Big Baby Davis' actions after hitting a last-second shot to beat the Orlando Magic last night won't be going away quietly. The father of the kid Big Baby shoved in the front row as he bounded toward the Celtics' bench has penned a strongly worded e-mail to the NBA demanding that Big Baby apologize to his "embarrassed" son.

The Orlando Sentinel's Shannon Owens spoke with Ernest Povetti -- a VIP court-side season ticket holder whose son had his hat knocked off by Big Baby. We remarked in last night's post that we were impressed he wasn't completely knocked over, showing an impressive level of resiliance and fortitude during the incident. Povetti called Davis a "raging animal with no regard for fans' personal safety" in the interview with the Sentinel.

Judging by the comments in the previous post, most people seem to be siding with Big Baby, forgiving him because there was no particular malice involved. So what do you think? Should Big Baby be forced to apologize? Or should this story just die an immediate and decisive death? And finally, if it had been Dwight Howard hitting the buzzer beater, do you think there would be any sort of stink made by the father?

there was no malice intended. he bumped the ref too, but the ref didn't complain. sounds like the father is the real "big baby".

i think davis should apologise and be suspended if ron artest would have done that hed be locked up

The only thing this kid should be embarassed of is the mockery his dad is making of the situation. I bet his story was a big hit at school. That is until they hear of his dad's behavior.

you know how many kids would give anything to get bumped by an NBA player, courtside in a playoff game?
man-- this guy needs to be grateful for what he's got-- or let a more appreciative, less fortunate family use his seats

Sounds like a spoiler "VIP" who has a spoiled child...Oh no, the kids hat got knocked off...cut me a break.

Do you think if a Magic player hit the game winner and bumped the kid he'd even care...nope. But because little VIP son had his night ruined, big baby 'daddy' is all sad and crying.

'Paul Pistons Fan' - You are a complete idiot. He should be suspended? You and that kids father should be committed.....

I think the guy should apologise!! who do these big dumb athletes think they are? Do they know why they make so much money....because of fan like them who spend their hard earned money to watch these highly overpaid people. Do something nice for the kid, sign a basketball while he is saying sorry....

I bet the kids father is a lawyer, watch out BBD.

Urlacher is a BUM! trade him now while he's still worth something!!

The father should have his season tickets taken away from him by the Magic owners for embarrassing the team, the NBA and worst his son. I read the article in the Orlando Sentinel online and was glad that it got tons of comments (over 250 last time I looked). I would say 90% of the comments or greater were calling out the dad for being an idiot and consider the bump by Davis as accidental. I give the readers of the Sentinel and the Magic fans credit for using their brains and not their hearts in this case. It would be easy to get caught up in the series and attack the big bad Celtic guy for "raging" into the stands. But most of them did not do this. They saw the incident for what it was, and don't believe Ernest Provetti had his son's best intention in mind when he wrote to the NBA. Especially after noticing comments pointing out the shameless plug of the dad's toy store in Florida.
What was 15 minutes of fame for this kid, is now turning into hours of hell... courtesy of dad.

Yet another sign that the systematic pussification of our youth is moving ahead full speed. Get a grip, Dad, Little Povetti will be telling that story to his grandkids......with a smile.

I'd be very unhappy too if my kid was a fatass dimwit.
