PETA dresses as KKK members outside Westminster Dog Show

petakkk.jpgIt seems that not everyone shares our excitement over the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden Monday night.

The animal rights advocacy group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had two of its members dress up as members of the Ku Klux Klan outside the arena to attract attention to their cause.
"Their goal, according to a post on the PETA website, was to draw a parallel between the KKK and the American Kennel Club. "Obviously it's an uncomfortable comparison," PETA spokesman Michael McGraw told the Associated Press.

But the AKC is trying to create a "master race" when it comes to pure-bred dogs, he added. "It's a very apt comparison."

The group passed out brochures implying the Klan and AKC have the goal of "pure bloodlines" in common.

As you might expect, this raised some eyebrows and some ire.

"Bystander Fatima Walden told the AP the KKK imagery was inappropriate no matter what the message.

"They could have used something else as an example," she said. "You should be considerate to everybody."

A spokesman for Westminster said that a vast majority of people participating in the dog show care deeply about the canines' health.

So, what do you think of this stunt? Is it outright unconscionable to draw this parallel or is there a worthwhile message amidst the shocking move? And, if you were a passerby, would you interact with the protesters or keep walking?

The ends here do not justify the means.

this is why people will never take peta seriously.....they are not the brightest apples in the bunch....

I think it was outrageous, that's a shameful time in America's history. All American especially people who claims to have compasion for dogs should have compasion for human being and what kind of feelings the image of the kkk may stir up. Now, whatever PETA is advocating I'll be talking against it and bring this event up.

shame on you peta!

I can't believe these blatantly racist people. Why did they not go dressed as Hitler and Nazi's?

These are the biggest hypocrites in America.

No wonder a lot of Black people have a negative view of PETA. To compare the pedigree of dogs to the lives of Black people the KKK has terrorized over the years i.e., "bombing of the 4 little Black girls in Birmingham come to mind" is insulting and just reinforces the notion that the people at PETA have lost their minds.

How in the world did the PETA come to the conclusion that the AKC was in any way the same as the KKK (HELLLOOO! THE KKK LYNCHED PEOPLE, BURNED DOWN HOUSES, RAPED, AND MURDERED BLACKS, ETC.)

There little protest was in extremely bad taste and someone from the PETA organization should have KNOWN BETTER.

Killing people and trying to create pure bloodlines in a DOG are not even in the same realm of reality. We're talking dogs people.

As an African – American I'm not offended at all by these demonstrators. I'm tried of walking on eggshell around this country. Don't get me wrong I love that this country has become a kinder gentler nation, but protest is meant to shock, get ones attention. I don't necessarily fully understand why PETA used the KKK organization as a parallel for the breeding practices of the kennel club, ‘cause the members of the KKK were a bunch of mutts.

Who ever came up with this idea has no business being connected with PETA. You just blew my support as well as many others with this antic of yours.

It would seem to be a very unintelligent way to market your idea. Even at the expense of leaving a bad rep after we understand what the KKK stand for. More power to the people. It would have been a bad day if the wrong group got the wrong impression for what they were trying to do. There needed to be a boycott or a band against this organization. We need to stop this action and if we are to join together both white and black, than there need to a full apology to the African culture.

A Luta continua

PETA is a bunch of idiots! Nobody cares what they say because of their stupid public stunts. Even if someone agrees with them, they lose our respect because of the ignorance they show. They are no better than the casue they fight against. Racist scumbags. Shame on you PETA!

Yeah, call me crazy, but I'm a vegetarian, but also not a big PETA fan. They are over the top most of the time. But looking at that demonstration makes me believe that they are right. Take a look at this documentary:

Suspect it will backfire in PETA's faces. When you dress up as something so emotionally charged like the KKK, you're not going to make a point so much as inflame passions, tempers and cloud the context of the discussion.

But hey, they're a group who think highly of Pamela Anderson, not one of God's smarter or ethical creatures.

Hey why don't the PETA boys dress up like the Three Stooges and start poking each other in the eyes and smack each other in the face with shovels. That would get my attention.

Where is the outrage from the NAACP and Jesse Jackson over the use of such symbols? Or Senator Byrd?

Is PETA trying to get us to be more sympathetic towards the KKK? How about PETA dressing up like muslims next to help us to better relate to the followers of Islam?

Dogs are some of the nicest people I know. They are good companions and great friends, but the best thing about dogs is how good of friends we are to them : )
Happy Dog Walking Company

NAACP should send a letter to PETA accusing them of rascism
