And while every analyst on ESPN has been talking about the Lions taking Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first pick in the upcoming NFL draft, recently departed wide receiver Mike Furrey says the teams is going to go with Daunte Culpepper.
Furthermore, Furrey sees Culpepper as an agent for positive change.""I've spoken to a couple of my friends who are backups there and I know [the Lions] are going to name Daunte Culpepper as the starter," Furrey said during a Sunday morning appearance on Sirius NFL Radio.
Just so we're all on the same page, the Culpepper tallied an 0-5 record as the Lions' starter last season and completed 52.2 percent of his passes. So this revival must have been some behind-the-scenes stuff that didn't translate to the playing field.""He's going to be a leader," Furrey said of Culpepper. "He's had the knowledge to play the game for a long time. He's been very successful. It's tough for anybody to come in toward the middle or end of the season and revive a team that has been downward spiraling the whole time."
