Football signings and commitments from the class of 2012 have dominated recent recruiting news. Many top local boys' soccer stars have also made their college choices.

With the start of the girls' season inching closer by the day, here is the first of forthcoming reports on where many of the top players from this year's class are matriculating at the college level. We will be updating this as information becomes available.

Any coaches, athletic directors, players or parents who want to help fill in the inevitable gaps, please email the author at

Naperville North, the top-ranked team for much of last season, has five players signed for next year: Evan Tryctha, Kyle Lindbert and Kevin Anderson are going to play at UIC. Lee Grander is going to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference at North Carolina State and Max Auden has signed with Bowling Green.

Deerfield's Joey Calistri, selected for first-team all-area, is going to Northwestern. His teammate, Jason Kayne, signed at Tufts Unviersity.

Northwestern also signed Mick Maley, who helped power Marmion to a fourth-place finish in last year's 3A state tournament. His teammate Mike Frasca, second-team Sun-Times' all-area and a prolific scorer, is going to the University of Dayton.

Another Sun-Times all-area player, Crystal Lake South's Charlie Oliver, got an early jump, graduated after the fall semester and is already enrolled at Northern Illinois.

St. Charles North, a top-ten team for much of the year, has four players from this year's class playing at the next level: They are: Mike Winhoffer, at Fordham; Garrett Creasor, playing at Eater Illinois; Alex Behm, Marquette; and Drew Smith, at Roosevelt.

Another Upstate Eight power school, Neuqua Valley, has two players playing at the next level: Nick Smith has also signed with Eastern Illinois and Andrew Kovacevic is going to perform next year at Bradley.

Eastern Illinois has another player in Bartlett's Anthony DiNuzzo, who will walk on at the Charleston program.

Timothy Christian's Nick Groenewold, a three-year varsity starter, signed with Division III power Calvin, last year's national runner-up. Maine East's Michal Walaszek is set to further his playing career at North Park. Wheaton South's Erik Yamane is headed for Trinity.
