FROM LEFT (AND BEFORE THE 50 PERCENT OFF!): Bird T-shirt, $22.99; Hearts tank and skirt set, $32.99; Guitar hoodie, $22.99.

I've written about this site before. I have 11 nieces and nephews and too many friends popping out babies, which means I get tired of gifting the same H&M hoodie every year (though H&M clothing is still awfully darn cute). SlickSugar.com, started by edgey moms who like to dress their kids in fun, youthful, rocker clothing, offers adorable duds I haven't seen anywhere else.

Normally I'd warn you all to stay clear of the full-priced items -- they can be a little pricey -- and stick to the clearance section site. But right now, in honor of the Fourth of July, SlickSugar if offering 50 percent off all regular-priced items. This is by far the best sale I've seen the site have. I'm about to stock up for the rest of the year!

Clothing starts at infants and goes up to size 8. Sale runs now until "supplies last."

Here's the coupon code to enter when you check out: bigbang.

It just starting heating up in Chicago, and summer clothing is already going on sale to make room for fall merchandise.

INC International Concept's Smocked Tie-Dyed Maxi Dress, $99, with shimmery metallic streaks, at Macy's.

Macy's is showing some hippie love with a Summer of Love shopping party at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Macy's, 111 N. State on the fourth floor.

In case you get the munchies, Rock-n-Roll Gourmet will be handing out their new all-natural baked snack Hippie Chips for you to taste.

This one's a head-scratcher, since the store isn't actually open 'til midnight. But I'll go with it anyway.

Both City Soles/Niche locations are hosting their annual Midnight Madness sale today. Everything in the store is on sale, so expect to snag big discounts, as well as a few cocktails.

I don't know exactly what it is.

But there's just something about a flat from Urban Outfitters. They're not necessarily the most comfortable shoe (I mean, they get the job done, but they're no Naturalizers). They probably only last one season, two if you're lucky.

But just look them. The sleek shape that forms perfectly to your foot. The woven leather patterns, the V-neck toe, the sheer lace overlay. The fact that they often get marked down as low as $6.99 (see prices below).

They're a perfect finish to a pair of skinny jeans and T-shirt or to a summer dress for the Pitchfork Music Festival or Lollapalooza this summer. And although I wouldn't walk 10 miles in them, they give you hours of comfort and support and girly hipster fashion.

Here are a few of this summer's flats from Urban Outfitters -- I order a few every spring. And right now, get free shipping of purchases over $75 (through April 27).

City Soles and Niche, a pair of beautiful designer shoe boutiques that might as well be the same boutique (same owner, same location) are offering a Designer of Moment sale. Every Tuesday they will mark down a different designer 20 percent (and we all need the 20 percent at these stores). The sale, offered both online and in-store, will run from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Today they are featuring two designers: Colico, who's spring line includes beautiful open-toed platform leather heels in caramel browns, greys and deep reds, and Faryl Robin, a little more affordable and definitely funkier. Faryl Robin features polka-dots and graphic prints that adorn both leather and fabric heels. One stunning pair, the Colette (top row, left), is a beautiful cheer red leather peep toe with a cork-wrapped heel in chocolate with polka dots. Sign me up.

If money was no object, I'd dress myself head-to-toe in the European designers sold at the beautiful Bucktown boutique Robin Richman, 2108 N. Damen, (773) 278-6150. It's my favorite boutique that I can't really afford to shop at (though I've been known to splurge here every once in awhile...). But every few months or so Robin Richman takes pity on us and hosts an online-only sale where selected items are marked way down. But only one of each item is offered during the sale, so the first caller gets it! This time, the store is offering an April in Paris Sale, from now until April 10, featuring nine of the boutique's favorite French items.

Included in the sale are the Yannik Mur Black Vegetable Ivory Ring (shown at top left), on sale for $25 (originally $50) and the Renee Tallman Double Wing Necklace (middle row, left), on sale for $90 (originally $125).

Head to the Web site for information on all of the items. Let me know if you buy something! I'll be super jealous.

Turn off the world -- and your own repetitive and annoying thoughts that penetrate the mind all day long -- during a FREE guided meditation at Exhale spa, 945 N. State. Reservations are required though, so call (312) 753-6500 to reserve your spot for the free class.

Here's what Exhale has to say about meditation: "It tames the mind and calms the body by bringing focus to the breath, leading your 'thinking' mind into a deeper state of relaxation and allowing you to let go of repetitive thoughts." Exhale also says meditation can boost the immune system, lower blood pressure and improve concentration.

If you've read only a few of my blog entries, it's probably no secret I'm a big fan of Anthropologie and all the pretty things inside of it. And before you start yelling at your computer screen that this store is too darn expensive, let me say I agree with you! On most days I shield my eyes as I run past the regular-priced items and head straight back to the sales area (or sales ROOM if you shop at the Anthropologie on Southport or at the Woodfield Mall in Shaumburg).

But if you're on the hunt for jewelry on sale, you may be disappointed. It can be slim pickins when you're looking through the sale bins at the stores. But online is a different story! Beautiful lace dangles can get as low as $20. Right now there are 48 pieces of jewelry on sale at Anthropolgie.com (including earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings). Check out a few of my favorites:

Baby showers can be lame. (Do moms really love the toilet paper game, do we think? Would you really want people to count how many TOILET PAPER SQUARES wide you are?)

For your next baby shower, jazz it up -- and scare some aunts who are really excited about their Gymboree gift -- with a present from one of my favorite sites, Slicksugar.com, a site that offers "Born to Rock Fashions for Kids." They just got new Spring merchandise in (and it's pretty darn cute), including an adorable heart jumper for girls (shown above). My favorite piece from the new collection is the green "bird" t-shirt with plaid sleeves (shown above). Who wouldn't want to wear that, adults included?

Many of us go through Pottery Barn phases in our lifetime. I'm currently on a Room & Board kick myself, but these deals almost have me breaking out my credit card. Here are several highlights (sale is both in stores and online):

So yeah, denim at Veruca Salt, 1921 N. Damen, is expensive. So this post is for those who don't mind spending more than a $100 on a pair of great-fitting jeans. (For me, it depends on whether or not I have a few extra dollars to burn. Every once in awhile I'll break $100 if the pair makes me look hotter than any other pair ever has... Otherwise I'll stick to my $40 H&M skinny jeans.)

From now until Saturday, January 10, if you buy one pair of regularly priced jeans, you'll second pair half off. Let me know if you decide to splurge and get the pairs!

You'll always have a chance to win gift certificates. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

I don't always make the trek over to Target, despite my friends always showing off their deliciously cute outfits they just purchased for next to nothing. The parking lots, at least in the city, are less than desirable. (And during my last visit to a Target, there was an army full of screaming kids and a suspicious-looking yellow substance on the floor that appeared to something of an, um, accident. Needless to say, that kind of thing sticks with you.)

Yet Target clothing never ceases to amaze me: Their incredibly cheap stuff is actually really, really cute. And since we all have 18 different holiday parties coming up, we'll need to stock up on some affordable party clothes.

Here is the Limited Edition Holiday Collection, a line of textured dresses, jeweled accents and shiny separates, which is available now until January 7. Drop me a line and let me know what you think of the collection (I think I like Brocade dress the best).

Ork neighborhood posters are $25 (or $30 for silkscreen). Artist Jenny Beorkrem also offers neighborhood posters for Boston, Brooklyn, Seattle and other cities. Available at Sacred Art or www.arkposters.com.

For your art-loving friends (or your friends who keep saying they need art for their walls but never do anything about it), why not buy them something from a Chicago artist? Sacred Art, 2040 W. Roscoe, is a great Roscoe Village art boutique that features emerging artists from the Chicago area only. And the best part is, the art is pretty affordable.

Right now through Sunday, Nov. 30, if you buy two regular prices items, you'll receive 50 percent off the third. Besides posters and silkscreens (like shown above), you'll find paintings, jewelry, clothing, stationary, photography, ceramics and more.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; by appointment Tuesday. Store is closed Thursday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving.

1. FRIDAY, NOV. 14: SENSUAL STEPS MIDNIGHT SALE
I've written about Sensual Steps, 4518 S. Cottage Grove, a few times in the last month. The politically active boutique has been throwing election day parties and dropping prices. But this event is definitely worth a mention. The boutique, which already offers affordable shoes, is marking down EVERYTHING in the store 50 percent off at their Midnight Madness Sale from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. If you can't make it to the store, the discount is offered online as well. Now some of the boots, which are as low as $50 (before the 50 percent off), may not be real leather. But for those of us who can't afford the $200 boots at Nordstrom right now, this may be a good alternative. As long as you don't wear them every single day, fake leather boots can last a very long time! And these are pretty darn cute. Let me know what you bought!

2. FRIDAY, NOV. 14: WINE TASTING AT MACY'S

Earlier this week I told all of you about the Jake Warehouse Sale in Andersonville (5215 N. Ravenswood). My husband and I went last night, and I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for cool designer clothing and don't want to pay the cool designer prices. Women's clothing includes dresses, tops, blazers, pants, shoes (booties and flats), belts and other accessories. Tops were marked down to as low as $20. An entire wall of denim is marked down to $30. In fact, the denim alone might make it worth the hike to Andersonville. Men's clothing (mostly summer) is still on the expensive side, but designer dress shirts get as low as $50, pants are marked down $40. Shorts are $25. Sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, and Sunday, Nov. 9. Good luck and let me know if you find anything!

fixture.jpg
Melie Bianco Knotted Handbag, $95 at Fixture (before the 20 percent off this week).

One of my best friends, who sometimes is a very rude person, chastised me a few weeks ago for proudly wearing a beautiful blue handbag that's crumbling and ripping apart at the edges. I discovered it at a store in Bucktown called Daffodil Hill more than two years ago on a shopping day with my girlfriends. The store is no longer there, but the bag has lived on and holds a spot very near and dear to my heart.

I have been putting off the search for a new handbag, because it just felt too soon. But this weekend I decided it was time, and I brought my husband along for moral support.
Fixture, 2108 W. Roscoe, has an impressive selection of handbags -- leather, non-leather, canvas and more, in every color you can think of (even my husband was impressed). I wasn't ready to move on just yet (I may stop by again later this week for a second look), but I suggest anyone who's in the market for a handbag to check out the sale. All handbags and clutches are 20 percent off from now until Saturday.

meditate.jpg

In an effort to help reduce the enormous stress of ongoing financial concerns, Exhale spa, 934 N. State, is giving back. For the month of November, Exhale will offer complimentary meditation sessions from noon to 12:30 p.m. every Monday in November. Reservations are required: (312) 753-6500.

At the meditation sessions, you'll soothe yourself with a guided breathing and healing session with exhale's Licensed Acupuncturist Cynthia Fitzgerald. Learn acupressure, aromatherapy, exercises and coping techniques to help manage stress. All supplies provided. Enjoy!

L.L. Bean is bringing the great outdoors to Lincoln Park this weekend to celebrate the grand opening of its new store at 4999 Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie. (Though the event is this weekend, the store doesn't open until Friday, November 7.)

The Great Urban Outdoors event will include a huge campsite in Lincoln Park where people can get fly fishing lessons and check out outdoor performance gear, clothing for all seasons and outdoor camping and sporting equipment. The event is from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1. Everyone who attends will get a $20 coupon they can use toward their purchase at the store. L.L. Bean employees will also be handing out gift cards at the event.

Here's a video from a past L.L. bean opening: www.youtube.com/llbeanPR

slicksugar.jpg
Slicksugar.com clothing, from left: Rock On Tee, $16 on sale; Road Trip Tee, $8.99 on sale; Trans Am Tee, $17 on sale.

I think babies and toddlers should always dress like grownups. Or better yet, like grandpas. Nothing but three-piece suits, pocket watches and bow ties.

Slicksugar.com may not help with the grandpa look, but the baby rocker Web site does offer plenty of clothes that Logan Square hipsters would covet. So start your holiday shopping early and take advantage of this: The site is offering free shipping from now until November 15. Use the promo code: SSNNOSHIP. And you can use it on sale items as well (some are shown above), which is good, because the full-priced stuff can get a bit expensive.

Knickers specializes in bra fittings and carries a full line of bras to fit virtually every size and shape.

I have enough friends with babies and children to know that Pottery Barn Kids is huge in the parenting world. So for all of you parents who have procrastinated getting costumes -- rejoice! Pottery Barn's Halloween costumes are on sale for 50 percent at www.potterybarnkids.com. I think I like the hedgehog the best (bottom left).

doma.jpg
Doma jackets from left: Leather Bomber, $537; Jacket with Knit Lining, $762; Jacket with Knitted Detail, $628 (prices are before the 15 percent off!).

Buenos Aires-based Doma is world-renowned for their leather jackets and coats. The label's signature is washed skins with a super-soft handle that they dye with colors and then craft into chic contemporary designs. But since leather doesn't come cheap, these jackets are on the pricey side. But Veruca Salt, 1921 N. Damen, is offering 15 percent off all Doma leather jackets today through Sunday. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Snag some discounts and raise a glass at the one-year anniversary party for SoKo Fashion, 1925 W. Chicago.

Free shopping parties are one of the city's best kept secrets. You can't really beat getting discounts on clothes, hanging out with your friends while downing a few cocktails and playing "fashion show." This weekend there are six notable fashion events. Here's a roundup (and good luck choosing!):

1. TODAY, OCT. 16: SHOPPING BENEFIT AND COCKTAIL PARTY AT MARLOWE
Celebrate the 12 most powerful and influential women in Chicago (and maybe hit them up for some tips) as they unveil their "biz-over" -- a business and style makeover -- and enjoy hors d'oeuvres by aigredoux and cocktails at Marlowe (800 N. Michigan). Ten percent of the sales at the shop that evening will benefit the Pursuit of Passion Inc., and Thodos Dance Chicago. You must RSVP to kristen@graceprgroup.com by 11 a.m. today. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oh, and did I mention the first 100 guests will receive a VIP gift bag?

2. FRIDAY, OCT. 17: JOEL HALL DANCE CENTER SHOPPING PARTY

Andersonville Galleria (5247 N. Clark), a retail market building featuring more than 50 tenants offering apparel, jewelry, artwork and more, will host a shopping party Friday. Snag some refreshments and take comfort in knowing that a portion of your cash will go to the Joel Hall Dance Center in Andersonville, one of Chicago's largest dance education facilities (and a place this Shopping blogger once took a few jazz and tap classes many years ago). The Galleria is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

3. SATURDAY, OCT. 18: SoKo FASHION'S ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY
Get 15 percent off purchases and enjoy hot cider, wine and snacks as you help boutique owner Sheri Roney celebrate the one-year anniversary of her East Village store, SoKo Fashion (1925 W. Chicago). Her mission was to bring "affordable, trendy clothing to Chicago Avenue." Party is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

4. SATURDAY, OCT 18: DAY OLD BREAD SALE AT THE T-SHIRT DELI
The T Shirt Deli (1739 N. Damen) is hosting its first-ever Day Old Bread Sale, where they'll try to sell their, um, screw-ups. Like a shirt that was supposed to say "Devoted to You," but instead says "Demoted to You," or a coveted "Edwards for President" tote. Prices range from $5-$20. Sale is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

5. SATURDAY, OCT. 18: ALICE BERRY FALL 2O08 TRUNK SHOW AT B
Check out Alice Berry's new collection of scarves, jackets, outerwear and evening wear at B (1117 W. Armitage). Alice will be there to help you find the best fit for your shape and size, and with a purchase, you can snag a gift bag that includes coupons for Infuse Yoga Spa, Lincoln Park Massage and more. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

6. SUNDAY, OCT.19: p.45 BIRTHDAY PARTY
Celebrate 11 years of Bucktown boutique p.45 (1643 N. Damen) with cocktails, cupcakes and the chance to win a gift bag (which contains items from p.45 designers and is valued at more than $1,000). There are 11 gift bags to win -- good luck! Party is from noon to 5 p.m.

So that's the roundup, now do some shopping for me. And if you attend one of these events -- write me a note and let me know how it was. And as always, if anyone has any shopping questions or subjects you'd like me to address, let me know. Happy shopping!

Stop by the Roscoe Village boutique Fixture, 2108 W. Roscoe, today and get 20 percent off any Halloween decor, including ghost candles, Mariposa pumpkin platters and vintage-style "Trick or Treat" dishcloths. Offer ends today, Oct. 13.

If you've ever watched a runway show and thought "yeah, that dress would be awesome if it wasn't $1,800," you'll be very pleased to know that British designer Jonathan Saunders has decided to use his powers for good and offer fashion-forward yet affordable clothing for Target shoppers. His collection was inspired by the works of Gustav Klimt, Jackson Pollack and Rothko. The clothing ranges from $14.99 to $59.99 and is only available until November 1 (so hurry!). Here are some highlights:

If you're a film nerd like me, and you're actually excited about the possibility of meeting Charlie Kaufman at the Chicago International Film Festival in a few weeks, you should save yourself some extra cash and purchase a festival pass today. Go to this link to purchase tickets and use this promo code: 44FESTPASS. You'll save $10 on the pass, but the offer expires today. There are three passes to choose from. My husband and I usually get the Moviegoer Pass, which gets you 10 tickets for $110. Anyone else planning to see "Wendy and Lucy"?

TOPSHOP is a popular United Kingdom chain that I once shopped at for two hours in London, and, as a result, lost my husband, who I eventually found -- after a frantic and tearful search -- in the basement of a pub around the corner, completely care-free and "pissed," as the English say. Anyway, the chain will open its first American store in New York City in November, and in anticipation of that, the company is launching a United States Web site, Topshop.com, tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 9. In honor of the launch, customers who spend more than $50 will receive a free charity Kate Moss T-shirt.

chairty t-shirt.jpg

For each T-shirt that's given away, TOPSHOP will make a donation on behalf of Kate to the Starlight Children's Foundation.

The new site will also launch Kate's new fall collection, which will include chiffon blouses, leather jackets and dresses with fringe. And also launching Tuesday, Sept. 9, is www.topmen.com, TOPSHOP's new U.S. Web site for men.

Rich by Rich & Skinny, $153, available in the store or at shopverucasalt.com.

Since I have 11 nieces and nephews -- and girlfriends who keep popping out more and more babies -- I'm always on the lookout for cute and original clothes that don't cost a fortune. So I'm loving Target's new line of clothes for boys designed by skateboarder Shaun White. The T-shirts, woven shirts, hoodies and denim (in sizes XS to XL) are clothes that Wicker Park hipsters would be jealous of. Here are a few of the highlights:

I think this model looks like the drummer from Bloc Party. But anyway, this graphic fleece hoodie is $17.99; graphic tee is $9.99; shorts in black are $17.99.

Fleece hoodie in camo print is $17.99; graphic tee is $9.99; straight-fit jeans in black are $19.99.

Summer sales make me giddy. And last weekend I was pleasantly surprised to see racks are still packed with marked-down spring and summer clothes (I paid $62 for a designer skirt that was originally $262). Here's where to find a few great sales in Chicago:
