February 2010 Archives

OK, I'm excited for the NBA All-Star game festivities this weekend. Not necessarily for the dunk contest (though I did like when Gerald Green blew out the candle on a cupcake a few years ago), but because NBA players like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James use this weekend to make big fashion statements.

It's like the Red Carpet Oscar Special, minus Billy Bush.

So keep your eyes peeled this weekend. Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. tonight with the All-Star Celebrity Game on ESPN, followed by the Rookie Challenge at 8 p.m. on TNT.

Here are a few of my favorite portraits from the weekend so far (go to for more). Let me know what you think!

Every blazer should come with its own hoodie. Here's Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade living up to his stylish reputation in a fantastic suit. Though I'm not sure about the Kanye glasses.

Bulls guard Derrick Rose is simple but still adorable in a military-style black button-down shirt and black pants.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard James Harden. Loving the contrast between the black tailored military-style trench and the pastel button-down.

Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings is a little more casual than the others in a checkered gas station attendant-inspired button-down.

Every morning I love to check my e-mails from competing Chicago coupon Web sites and to see who has the better deal.

Today, YouSwoop wins! What a good deal: For $20, you can get a Spa Manicure and Pedicure at Image Nails Skin Beauty, 25 E. Washington Suite 59. You just have to use it before August 10, 2010.

This package is a $52 value (Spa Manicures are normally $17, and Spa Pedicures are $35).

Both Groupon and YouSwoop have a new deal each day. You can sign up on both sites to get on their daily e-mail list. Both sites send our their deals anywhere from 6 to 9 a.m.

Coucou in Evanston. Tom Cruze~Sun-Times

On Sunday I'll be pretending to care about the Super Bowl while I watch it with my husband, who, for some reason, has decided he prefers to watch it at home with me rather than be at a big party with taco dip and people who care.

But for those of you who are free, here's a deal that's too good to pass up:

Two sister Evanston boutiques -- Asinamali, 1722 Sherman, and Coucou, 1716 Sherman -- are marking down their entire stores from noon to 5 p.m. Everything, including new merchandise, will be 50 to 75 percent off. Hooray for Super Bowl Sunday!
