Top row (before the 50 percent off!): Christine & Kelly boots, $60; Go Max boots, $45; Simply Comfortable boots, $50. Bottom row: BCBG Girls Dolly shoes, $125; Jeffrey Campbell Lene booties, $130. Most shoes available in sizes 5 to 12.

1. FRIDAY, NOV. 14: SENSUAL STEPS MIDNIGHT SALE
I've written about Sensual Steps, 4518 S. Cottage Grove, a few times in the last month. The politically active boutique has been throwing election day parties and dropping prices. But this event is definitely worth a mention. The boutique, which already offers affordable shoes, is marking down EVERYTHING in the store 50 percent off at their Midnight Madness Sale from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. If you can't make it to the store, the discount is offered online as well. Now some of the boots, which are as low as $50 (before the 50 percent off), may not be real leather. But for those of us who can't afford the $200 boots at Nordstrom right now, this may be a good alternative. As long as you don't wear them every single day, fake leather boots can last a very long time! And these are pretty darn cute. Let me know what you bought!

2. FRIDAY, NOV. 14: WINE TASTING AT MACY'S
Get schooled on wines from Sonoma County (and taste plenty of them) at Macy's Wine Shop (lower level), from 6 to 7 p.m. for a measly $10. Reservations are required: (312) 781-3682.

3. FRIDAY, NOV. 14 and SATURDAY, NOV. 15: NORDSTROM HOLIDAY FRAGRANCE FESTIVAL
Discover this season's latest fragrances, receive a special gift with any $75 women's fragrance purchase in participating lines and receive a jewel-encrusted atomizer with a purchase of $150 or more (while supplies last) at Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue. For more information: (312) 464-1515 (ask for men's or women's fragrances. From 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The festival is also at the Nordstrom at Oakbrook Center, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

4. SATURDAY, NOV. 15: SHOE PARTY AT CITY SOLES/NICHE
Meet footwear designer Faryl Robin Morse of Farylrobin Footwear, get style tips and special discounts between noon and 5 p.m. at the City Soles/Niche boutique, 2001 W North Ave in Chicago. She'll unveil her Spring 2009 collection, as well as help shoppers pick out the latest must-have footwear from Farylrobin.

5. SATURDAY, NOV. 15: SIP. SHOP. CHICAGO! SHOPPING EVENT
This sounds pretty cool. Chicago boutiques from all sides of the city are packing up and moving under one roof for a fun evening of shopping, appetizers and cocktails from 4 to 8 p.m. at Galleria Unico, 44 E. Superior. It's free, but you must be 21 to attend. Shopping will include clothes, shoes, handbags and jewelry. Participating boutiques: Brozac Bling and Things, CC Bella, Clutch, Dana Reed Designs, Five Accessories, House of Sole, Kiwi Boutique and Ms. Catwalk (a very fun and affordable Bucktown boutique). Enjoy!

6. SATURDAY, NOV. 15: DR. SEUSS' MAYOR WHOVILLE BOOK READING
Join the very busy and important Mayor of Whoville at noon at Macy's on State (5th Floor) for a very special reading of the classic children's book Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss. After the reading, stick around for a meet and greet with the Mayor of Whoville. Also, enjoy face painting and balloon twisters from 1 to 3 p.m., along with special activities from FAO Schwarz.

7. FROM TODAY UNTIL NOV. 19: GET 20 PERCENT OFF AT KNICKERS
Get 20 percent off all Frasier Fir items, including candles, boxed soaps and home fragrance mists, at Knickers, 492 Main in Glen Ellyn. The candles, which start at $12 (before the sale) could make a great gift, and gift-wrapping is included!
