Who wants to mingle and find new clothes for fall? These two shopping events sound perfect for a girls' night out:
Singer/songwriter Matt White (shown here with his Vote for Love shirt) will perform at 5 p.m. during the Gap event.
Customize a "Vote For _" T-shirt
I was never in a sorority, so I don't have much experience with puffy paint. But I do miss the grade school days of getting glue and glitter on my hands during arts and crafts time. Here's your chance to relive those good times. Stop by Gap's 555 N. Michigan location on Friday, Aug. 22 and customize a free "Vote for _" T-shirt. You can fill in the blank by going to your own "voter booth" and decorating your shirt with supplied materials. But don't think you have to state your political preference. You can fill in the blank with anything you'd like -- the name of an Olympian or your favorite "Gossip Girl" character.
Find your inner preppy
Mix and mingle with those who worship everything argyle at Thirdcoastpreppy.com's "Cocktail Wishes and Khaki Dreams" launch party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Citizen Bar, 364 W. Erie. The new Chicago-based Web site was launched by an anonymous "thirty-something, preppy girl" blogger who offers everything from deals on her favorite preppy clothing to a list of books she thinks preppy moms might enjoy. Sip cocktails and check out deals from Bird Dog Bay (a Chicago-based neckwear company), Salmon Cove and Tucker Blair (a company that devotes itself entirely to making needlepoint belts.)
Happy shopping! And if you know of a fun shopping event in Chicago, or if you just want to brag about a cute new pair of shoes you got on sale for practically nothing, drop me a line or add a comment to this blog.
