April 2011 Archives

Harry Potter and Voldemort are just about ready to get it on one last time - no, not in a Dumblerdore conspiracy theory way - with the final installment of J.K. Rowling's wizarding series due in theaters this summer.

But through the magic of the Internet, we can see the latest trailer now, avoiding the deluge of ads we're forced to sit through for a decent trailer at the theater these days.

And no, this clip is not in 3D, much to Roger Ebert's joy. Though the decidedly dark final chapter is, which should provide an affect akin to a disappearing cloak for all those shadowy scenes of gloomy teenagehood.

The high-flying Chicago Bulls are the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, a fun team to watch and the home probably league MVP Derrick Rose.

But for those of us who can't make it to the United Center in person, perhaps the best thing about watching a Bulls game is the over-the-top enthusiasm and calls provided by former Bulls big man Stacey King.

As D. Rose is a game-winning machine, King is a catchphrase-making marvel. His numerous nicknames - Windy City Assassin - for players and gleeful spouting for hot sauce help get the TV fan from seat to feet.

So it's only fitting that there's finally a line of t-shirts to help commemorate the moments King creates. The Stacey Shirts venture is pretty new and you can contact them on Facebook to suggest new shirt phrases or take a look at the $17.99 shirts, available in white or red and expanding as Stacey spits brilliance. But act quick - before the NBA, Bulls, Comcast or King sue them for trademark infringement.

Now, some hot sauce ...

We're combing through the tidbits leading up to the latest royal coupling - so you don't have to. Make sure to check back in often for updates on Wills and Kate as they make their way toward Westminster Abbey.

May God have mercy on our souls ...

Cold drinks. Who knew they were so complicated?

When you have to write a song and produce a music video to explain how to fill a cup with some ice and pop you might be over-thinking things a bit.

Black Swan

Whoever did Natalie Portman's dance moves in "Black Swan" doesn't have a thing on Lil Buck. Here the breakdancer collaborates with Yo-Yo Ma to "The Swan" by Camille Saint-Saƫns. Now if you haven't heard of either Yo-Yo or Lil before, I'd bet you'd have a hard time guessing which one was the breakdancer and which one was the award-winning cellist.

Sir, where are you trying to go!?

You seem to be going nowhere fast. I understand dancing and I guess rollerblading can serve a purpose but the two together? It's baffling! You aren't accomplishing anything!

What happens when you cross the Royal Wedding and "The Hangover"?

Apparently not much. Just tea. Lots of tea.

Real Madrid player drops trophy off bus

Wait, that's not Patrick Kane dropping the Stanley Cup off the bus in Chicago? Because I'm actually surprised that didn't happen. While taking their victory lap in the team bus, Madrid defender Sergio Ramos dropped the cup and the front wheels of the bus crushed it. Whoops.

Milk jug underwear

Amazingly, what I find most odd about this video is that one of the goats is wearing a pink headband. I think someone here has "mommy issues" and it's not that poor dog.

By which we mean, of course, "Wow, that's fascinating!" Because during the last few days -- Wednesday, Thursday, Friday -- what tom-foolery has taken place out on the Interwebs. Here's a look at the things that have caused us to say, "Whee! That's funny!"

Smooth moves

This adorable kid feels the rhythm even in his sleep! Look out Justin Bieber, I think we just found your future rival!

Mickey's got skillz, yo!

Props to the Mouse. What was this kid thinking challenging Mickey to a breakdance-off on his own turf. Of course the Mouse was going to win!

Terrifyingly awesome

Through the miracle of science (and maybe a couple classes in costume design), the T-Rex is brought to life for the sole purpose of scaring little children. Because really, if "Jurasic Park" were real you know they would have totally played some awesome pranks on people with those dinosaurs.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

In this case, the answer might be chicken, egg, and then egg again. Eggcellent!

Chicks With Steve Buscemeyes

This new blog that Photoshops actor Steve Buscemi's umm, expressive eyes onto the faces of well-known female celebrities exploded onto the internet this week, creeping out everyone that clicks through it. Lets face it, even Steve Buscemi is creepy looking with Steve Buscemeyes.

WARNING: Giant people taking over city with booty dancing

Big Freedia kicks off the weekend with this bootylicious music video. Apparently The self-proclaimed "Queen Diva" is quite popular in New Orleans. Her MySpace page is a goldmine, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work I go

Just another day cleaning out the cobra pit. Ho hum. No biggie, just tossin' cobras around. Yea, this guy seems to think it's no big deal but just wait, those cobras are just slithering around, plotting their revenge.

RADADADADADADADADA

What the what!? Now, I don't claim to watch much televised sporting events (obviously) but I'm pretty sure that's not normal.

Daddy's a bully

"Okay, but you're going to have to find another place to live" he tells his Yankee-loving son. Give the kid a break, at least he's not a White Sox fan. Zing!

The Rebecca Black Plague

Much like the plague, this song will just not go away. And yes, I realize I'm just perpetuating this viral virus. This time though we're rapping up the weekend with church on Sunday. Better pray this song goes away.
