Notre Dame received a commitment from one of the nation's leading running backs on Friday and coach Brian Kelly will land another top prospect on Saturday, giving the Irish a major boost in recruiting and assuring their class a spot among the top 10 going into the 2010 season.
On Friday, Notre Dame got 5-10, 180-pound running back Justice Hayes of Grand Blanc, Mich., a top 100 player who is the No. 2 player in Michigan. He is a perfect fit for Notre Dame's new spread offense. He chose Notre Dame over Michigan, Michigan State and Tennessee.
Hayes is the first outstanding skill position player that Kelly has landed. He is explosive, exactly what Notre Dame's offense needs. The Irish haven't had a running back who can take the ball the distance since Julius Jones.
On Saturday, Notre Dame will receive a commitment from 6-6, 240-pound defensive end Aaron Lynch of Cape Coral, Fla. He also is a top 100 player, the best defensive end in Florida. Notre Dame badly needs a pass-rushing defensive end and Lynch is one of the best in the nation. He is a good all-around athlete who is explosive off the ball. He looks thin at 240 and likely will develop into a 270-pounder.
