I would add one more influence. Delphine Chanéac's performance reminded me of the mime-like performance of Kathryn Hays in the original STAR TREK's "The Empath," a rare graceful note which elicits sympathy from the audience despite some harrowing (at least for STAR TREK) events.
Hilarious! I sat behind Billy Corgan this weekend at a screening of a documentary on Rush (after literally bumping into him in the restroom), and I can attest to his Dren-like presence!
Jim, did you notice in the credits that one of the people contributing to the creation of Dren's voice was none other than Mary Margaret O'Hara, sister of our beloved Catherine and a odd little duckling her own self? Her very strange, beautiful singing voice was the perfect place to jump off into Dren's otherworldly chirping and cooing.
