Personal note: Off to Toronto!

| | Comments (7)

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I hit the air for the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. I can't believe how much stuff I miss in Seattle simply because of busyness, laziness and/or inertia. But in Toronto I can go full-throttle (watching, talking, eating, blogging -- OK, I'm getting tired already), concentrating completely on the movies at hand. My customary Seattle-Toronto companions are Dave McCoy, Kathleen Murphy and Richard T. Jameson -- and this year I plan to catch up with some of my fellow bloggers, such as Girish Shambu and Andy Horbal (whom I've never met). And Roger's going to be back again!!! (Meanwhile, Dennis, I've sent you something else to keep you occupied and out of trouble while we're gone. Wish you could join us.)

For now, I've got an earworm that just won't quit: "Oh, Canada!"

Watching movies, talking, eating, blogging... so few words, Jim, yet they are enough to make me more than envious. I just went on and on about that, though, in my last post. I'm sure the films will be good, so enjoy your time with Roger, Jim, Girish, Andy, and all the other film writers who will be there. I hope to some day be there. Until then, count me in as one enthusiastic reader of your updates.

Man, I'm envious, especially with someone I actually know in person (Keith Uhlich) attending the festival this year. Next year, methinks!

Thanks, Jim! You are far too kind. I look forward to reading your posts from the festival as much as I do drifting off to sleep and imagining the day when I get to explore Toronto myself! New De Palma, Coen Brothers and hopefully as many great surprises as there were last year-- I do envy you. I'll pass on the earworm though-- just rid myself of a nasty ear infection. Stereo is stereo again!

Have fun! (Or as the French-Canadians that turn the gerbil wheels at Google Translation Services would say, avoir l'amusement!)

If only Toronto wasn't a whole country away...I hate LA...

Sigh.

I hear they're premiering Persepolis tonight. Jim, you need to see this and let us know how it is.

Damn, Ken. Another one to add to the list! There are press & industry screenings still to come for "Persepolis." I'll try to schedule around it.

The graphic novels are provocative, funny, accessible, disturbing, and deeply informative. A friend of mine saw the premiere where Marjane Satrapi her own damn self was there... she wrote the OGN, and takes co-directing duties on it. My friend raved about it.
