Flowers from a gigolo

Rob Schneider (right) in "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo."

A note from Roger Ebert:

A beautiful bouquet of flowers was delivered to the house the other day. A handwritten note paid compliments to my work and wished me a speedy recovery.

Who was it from? A friend? A colleague? An old classmate? The card was signed, “Your Least Favorite Movie Star, Rob Schneider.”

Saints preserve us.

It will help to establish a context if I mention that my review of Schneider’s latest film, “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo,” contained three words which provided me with the title of my new book: “Your Movie Sucks.”

Good for you Roger. Now when will you start reviewing again? I half joke. Anything you write I will be happy to read. I'm glad to see your mind is as sharp as ever.

Did Rob Schneider's agent/publicist just do something that Roger has the skill to make come off sweet? If Schneider wasn't so aggresively unfunny in his work, and if I didn't have to see him in "yellow--face" everytime the gay-panic trailer of that new Adam Sandler movie plays in a theater, I might assume that he's actually a nice guy who I just don't share comedic taste with.

Off topic, but close to being on: does anyone know if Rob Schneider saved Adam Sandler's life by the way? It seems that one of them can't make a comedy without the other either popping up and saying "you can do it" or doing a broad stereotype of a vague ethnic group.

At this point, I'd actually much rather see Rob Schneider in "The Stapeler" than anything he could think up himself.

P.P.S.
I thought it was a very nice article, despite my doubt of sincerity, and perhaps Rob's an actual nice guy, if not a person with great taste.

Rob is actually half Filipino. Not that it excuses his yellow faceness.

And his role on bench warmers wasn't half bad.

Sandler has all of his buddies in his movies, it's just that Rob is just he is the most famous out of them.

Such a sweet reply from Roger, such a nice gesture from Rob, whom I am going to give the benefit of the doubt regarding his sincerity. I appreciate Roger for writing this, though--making public the private gesture of reconciliation couldn't have been done in a classier way.

I agree with William B. in that I suspect Rob Schneider was sincere. I am willing to wager that Roger has received hundreds of thousands of well wishes, including one from President Bush. Would Rob Scheider be so presumptuous that Roger Ebert would pick his gift out to write an article about? And Roger is no slouch either: he's hung around movie stars all his life, and I wager he could spot a phony sentiment if it came his way.
